Currently Reading? Just Finished?
I just finished
The Anatomist's Wife. It was an atmospheric amateur sleuth mystery in 1830 Scotland. I just loved it.

I would recommend you read them in order because events take place that have a knock on effect in later books especially from the Grant County series into the Will Trent series.
I finished The Broken Window by Jeffery Deaver. It was a good read. A real eye opener for sure. I'm now reading Path Of The Assassin by Brad Thor
Tay wrote: "I finished The Broken Window by Jeffery Deaver. It was a good read. A real eye opener for sure. I'm now reading Path Of The Assassin by Brad Thor"I'm a new fan to Jeffrey Archer, I've just finished Prisoner of Birth, will have to read The Broken Window.
I just finished
and it was another great read. I really like Holly but I wish Ham had a bigger role in this book. Now I'm trying to figure out if I should read
the next in the series or read
and see what Gabriel is up to. Hmmm
Just started The Birth House by Ami McKay, and it's good! Set in Nova Scotia late 1800's, but talks the full tradition of this bunch of marooned immigrants from their history and adaptations.
Reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest, this straight after The Girl Who Played with Fire. I very rarely read a follow up immediately.
I've just finished Upfield's The Mystery of Swordfish Reef. Another good read. Interesting history and geography of the Bermagui area. Good narration by Peter Hosking.
I just finished Dead Man's Footsteps by Peter James - I'm working my way through the Roy Grace series having come to it late. Actually, 'working' is not the right word because reading his books is sheer pleasure. In this one, a crooked businessman pretends to have died in 9/11 so he can wipe his debts and start again. Then years later, the body of a young woman turns up... The book moves between New York, the UK and Australia and has a great cast of characters. To me, the real strengths of Peter's books are the plotting and the supporting characters. In fact, the lead character is in this for probably less than half of it but it all works really well. Gripping stuff and great fun.

I just finished
. I was tense the entire time reading the book. It was a good book. I'm now going back to
.
Just finished Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes. Very suspenseful. Different. Kept me reading well into the nights when I should have turned off the light earlier.

Supposed to have a twisty ending or so it says in the Library Journal.

Well, don't tell me how it ends. I've gotten so that I don't even read reviews anymore - they are always giving things away.

I can relate. I don't even read the official blurbs about novels that appear on websites (like Goodreads, Amazon, etc.), dust jackets, on the back covers, etc. They often give away too much about the plot. I hate spoilers and prefer to know nothing about a novel before reading it.
It makes it kind of tricky to decide whether I'm going to like a novel before reading it, but I just go with my gut instincts. Covers, authors, recommendations (just not detailed recommendations), "Top X" lists, a hint about the theme of the novel -- things like that help me build my "to be read" lists. I rarely pick a novel that I end up hating, despite my slightly unorthodox methods for choosing them.
I don't know. I seem to kiss a lot of frogs before finding a "prince" of a story. Just finished
Zoo. It was supposed to be an apocalyptic thriller, but it was pretty much a disappointment.
Jack Reacher does rule!I finished Chris Pavone's The Expats and posted a review - anyone here read it?

Starting David Baldacci's Zero Day...
Just finished The Pale Criminal by Philip Kerr and reviewed it. I was getting bored with the traditional hard-boiled detective, but locating him amidst the upheavals of Nazi Germany raised the stakes and made it intriguing.

I don't know how it ends. Haven't finished it yet. I try not to rehash the plot when I review books, just tell how I felt about the book.

"I love Baldacci's The Winner. I'm picking up his newest one "The Forgotten" today.
Am into the Birth House by Ami McKay, the story of a young lady, very independent and capable who lives in a remote part of Nova Scotia, becomes of age about the time WWI began, and her story. Set in the history, morays and traditions of Scots Bay, Nova Scotia.
Is going to read Howl - Annalise Grey (*whispers the next few words "on her kindle" as it's been playing up nearly a week since it arrived*)
Richard wrote: "Who is a fan of Karen laughter? Which of hers is the best to start with? I've orderd blindsighted from the library. Is it important to read her books in a particular order?"I'm a BIG fan :)
But I read the Will Trent series in order first not knowing about the Grant series being earlier and related... then I read the Grant books.
While I am a huge fan I think I prefered the Will Trent books and it did suit me better to have read them first. I found the early 'Grant' books less 'gritty' and I like gritty. But being adicted to the characters by then I kept going, when I might not have.
Enjoy, I love them!!
I'm finishing Catch Me by Lisa Gardner Catch Me. I have mixed feelings about it, but wow what a surprise ending!! I'll give it 3 stars.
Jeanette wrote: "I'm reading
by Stuart MacBride, can't seem to get into it."It sometimes takes me a little while to get into his books. I'm reading Broken Skin.
Just finished She Died a Lady by Carter Dickson a/k/a John Dickson Carr. I think I was 15% in when I picked it up yesterday. Had been having trouble getting into it. But I found I couldn't put it down until I finished it last night.
Just finished
, one of his earlier ventures into crime fiction. I enjoy Elmore Leonard mostly for the pace and the dialog. It seems to me his characters could be picked up and set down in almost any story. Not bored yet.
I finished In the Presence of Mine Enemies by Harry Turtledove and it was interesting, not great, but still a good read. I'm about 1/3 of the way through The Perfect Husband by Lisa Gardnerand enjoying. It's nicely paced and there is suitable tension. I'm just starting a Scandanavian Crime story; Detective Inspector Huss by Helene Tursten.
I just finished
. It was a good book. I think I need to just realize that Gabriel is always going to be beaten to a pulp and then have to come back from it all like he's superman...only older. It seemed too long, some parts seemed really unnecessary and could have been cut out. It was a little slower pace than the normal books.
I just finished reading The Doll by J. C. Martin. The book was very cheap on amazon but it was an amazing read. Short but super creepy.
Finished and reviewed The Birth House by Ami McKay. Really enjoyed it. Gave it a 5 star recommendation.
I am currently reading
Recipe for Treason: A Lady Arianna Regency Mystery. It is the third in the series and they keep getting better. I LOVE this series.
Bill wrote: "It does sound very interesting..."Bill, the cover blurbs don't do it justice. I was surprised how good it was.
Just started Raven Black by Ann Cleeves. One of the PBS channels here ran an episode of Vera, which I guess she created. Book looks good and so does the show.
I'm reading A Good and Happy Child by Justin Evans. It's an interesting take on the demonic possession / exorcism story with the accent on the psychological rather than explicit gore.
I finished Path Of The Assassin by Brad Thor. I enjoyed his book but I think I like Vince Flynn better. I'm now reading The Forgotten by David Baldacci
Tay wrote: "I finished Path Of The Assassin by Brad Thor. I enjoyed his book but I think I like Vince Flynn better. I'm now reading The Forgotten by David Baldacci"Hi Tay, I'm a fan of vine Flynn and a bigger fan of Baldacci, can't wait to Read Forgotten.
I'm Reading J.D> Robb at the Moment.
I read
11 years ago. I liked it then and sticks in my mind. The last book I read was a classic
because I like to have a change of pace once in awhile. It was OK. The life style was somewhat boring, but the symbolism of this book has a lot to say. Never was a Hemingway fan however, so it's back to mysteries and espionage as I just went into my bag of books and found
Vince Flynn's
LoveMitch Rapp, Jack Reacher, etc.
