I have just finished The Snowmanby Jo Nesbo. I have only recently discovered this author and I am so glad that I did. I am loving Harry Hole, he is beautifully flawed- the best kind of detective. I cant wait to get the Leopard now, will keep you updated

Started
last night. Turning out to be a good read, retired 'government' couple getting involved in a missing person case through friend who is on the local police force.
Just finished Dead Sea. Good but way too long. Gave it 3 stars. Just starting an ARC of Line of Fire which I got through my Stephen White group.
finished Watch me Die by Erica Spindler a good read but then I read Mo Hayders new book Hanging Hill I could,nt put it down, the best book I have read in a long time. A MUST.
I'm reading Snake Skinby C.J. Lyons. The first book in her series feauturing F.B.I Agent Lucy Guardino.
Finished
. Good read, especially for a first book and of course (as often happens with me) I'd already read another book in the series The Covert Element: A James Becker Thriller which I found even better than this one. I really like the very mature, well grounded husband and wife team that is developing in this series.
Anne wrote: "finished Watch me Die by Erica Spindler a good read but then I read Mo Hayders new book Hanging Hill I could,nt put it down, the best book I have read in a long time. A MUST."Now I'm jealous! Hayder's new one is not available in the States yet. I keep checking my Nook library. Can't wait to read it. Glad you enjoyed it.
Just started Faithful Place, which has been on my TBR for a couple of years.I don't know what it is with me and Tana French. I don't love her books but cannot keep away from them.
Anne wrote: "finished Watch me Die by Erica Spindler."Coincidentally, I just finished Watch me Die on Stage, an autobiography by Carrot Top.
I just finished The Confessor by Daniel Silva. I've been disappointed in his last two books. I'm am now starting The Girl Next Door: A Mystery by Brad Parks. His character Carter Ross is hilarious. If you like Robert Crais's Joe Pike character then you'll love Carter Ross. It's a shame Parks doesn't get more recognition. His story is fast pace humorous that makes you root for Ross to prevail.
Oddly, my most recent mystery reads are both set in the 1920s. It's unusual for me to group books in time like that. And I was afraid it would get confusing but actually it just kind of enriched the experience. Murder Your Darlings
which is another in the Dorothy Parker/Algonquin Round Table series. Love the stories but about three times I was thrown off by anachronisms. He needs to watch that. Requiem for a Mezzo
which is third in the Daisy Dalrymple mystery series. These are well-crafted with well-fleshed out characters. They aren't un-put-down-able, but they are very good.

I'll be reading more of his..

I think this was one of the worse Patricia Cornwell books I ever read." Try Scarpetta. I am now reading the Professionals by Owen Laukkanen. A group of young college students who kidnap people to make money. So far it is well written.
Ethan wrote: "I just finished reading The Book of Madness and Cures. It was a slow historical novel, so I've decided I need a good mystery/thriller to read next. I am now reading The Inquisitor's Key by Jefferso..."

I am now reading the Professionals. A group of college students kidnap people for money. It is well written and the subject matter doesn't "get you down."
Tay wrote: "I just finished The Confessor by Daniel Silva. I've been disappointed in his last two books."Skip ahead, you won't miss much and read A Death In Vienna by far the best one of his I have read so far!
I just finished
Great book! Reading
thoroughly enjoying Parker with this one. Depth of character in the hero, and a seriously twisted villain.
Finished listening to Motor Mouth - quick and entertaining - and now I'm listening to Whiskey Sour. It's the first "Jack Daniels" book I've read and it's an interesting combination of humor and grit.
Finished reading In the Last Analysis and now I'm reading Instruments of Darkness by Imogen Robertson. Early forensic science in 18th century England.

Hi Theresa, Instruments of Darkness: A Novel (finally got the link to work!) is very interesting. The pace is a bit slower, no car chases in 18th century England, and it jumps back and forth between the two connected story lines which is both interesting and annoying when you want to know what happens next but I'm just about finished and I still haven't figured out who dunnit.
I just finished Leah Giarratano's Vodka Doesn't Freeze the other day. Great read. My review here: http://tysonadams.com/2012/05/12/book...I'm now reading Chris Ryan's The Increment.
Donna wrote: "Hi Theresa, Instruments of Darkness: A Novel (finally got the link to work!) is very interesting. The pace is a bit slower, no car chases in 18th century England, and it jumps back and forth betwee..."Sounds interesting, I'll add it to my TBR list.
Ursula wrote: "I finished You Can't Hide by Karen Rose now I'm reading Live to Tell by Lisa Gardner"What's Karen Rose like? I picked up one of her books second hand because it looked interesting. Part of her Daniel Vartanian series.
I recently read Walter Mosley's 1990 neo-noir title, Devil in a Blue Dress. It's not as good as some of his later work, but don't let that stop you. It's still a great read. My review is here.Up next is more neo-noir circa 1990--James Ellroy's L.A. Confidential.
Couldn't finish Bible of the Dead by Tom Knox. Took a week to get through the first 150 pages! Life is just too short! Too much sudden violence followed by pages of sheer boredom! By the time I got half way through the book I still had no idea what the point of the story was.
Finished Instruments of Darkness: A Novel, very complex with a twist at the end which might have been a bit out of left field but still believable when you think about it.
Moving on to The Devotion of Suspect X for my in person group at the end of the month.
Still listening to Whiskey Sour

I ordered the first two in the robotham series today, already have part 3 on my shelf :)
I'm a mystery author, but I also review mystery & suspense, specializing in the best of Indie Authors on Kindle and priced between $.99 - $2.99. Here's my latest review: Quinn Checks InKindle $2.99

Liam Quinn is a product of Philadelphia's aptly named, Fishtown; a rough, elderly neighborhood out of which he develops a talent for boxing and a love for art. He has a dad and a brother on the police force, and an unfortunate three-year prison tern for art forgery.
Now he's on the right side of the law with a nifty license to investigate insurance claims, courtesy of a family connection, though his unrequited love for his boss's daughter keeps tripping him up. The author makes the most of Liam's adoration of Nora in the fewest of words: "She'd always had that effect on me; that voodoo that caught my gaze and held it suspended, elevated, like a kite in an updraft." (sigh)
In his latest case, Liam must investigate a robbery that at first glance seems to be a grab and run of an original Vermeer in a swank modern art gallery. The nice fat reward for its return would do a lot towards paying off his restitution to the state.
But there's more to the story than the one expensive painting. Like, why did the two robbers choose only the one painting in a gallery full of other expensive, if contemporary pieces? And why does one of the robbers linger next to another painting, but out of range of the security cameras? And why do the post robbery photos show that same painting to hang askew?
The author gives the reader a painterly introduction to Liam's life, his friends, most of whom are ex-cons, as well as his Irish relatives; his warm and welcoming Irish parents, his truculent cop brother who is incapable of accepting Liam the incarcerated as a respectable investigator.
Liam dodges bullets, punches… okay, some not so much, mob-types, and all sorts of lovely women in this bright, witty and wonderfully complex first in the Liam Quinn mystery series.
Highly recommended!

R.P. modestly won't say it herself but her mysteries rate very highly with readers and are also inexpensive (karmic payback, RP!):

Two from my 'auto buy' list of authors/series available today ... would you believe I was up at 4 AM to download?
I don't think I'm going to get a lot done for the next couple of days ....
Reading Joe Konrath's 'The List'. It was a light read and a whodunnit and then all of a sudden I'm dealing with clones of Abe Lincoln, Jack the Ripper, Thomas Jefferson. That's reaching for a premise to write a story. Interest waining fast.
I have just started to read The Saturday Big Tent Wedding PartyI have read two others by Smith and have liked them. This is the 12th in the series. It ambles along in a slow descriptive way of life in Bozwana. The little mystery is not the point, but the wisdom that we encounter even tho' we may have already discovered it in our own lives. Delightful and easygoing. Loved the HBO series.

I hope readers will take a chance on new authors.

Pretty interesting almost a kick back to the old school detective novels.Heather-

Heather wrote: "almost a kick back to the old school detective novels.I took a peek at the sample based on the 'old school' comment. I had an interest because I'm 30K words into an 'old school' crime book.
I didn't get that impression. Starting a book off with a description of a card game is kind of a pretty slow start. I didn't get much further because I was looking less at story than the 'old school' touch. Maybe I didn't give it a fair shot.
This morning I finished The Seventh Sister - Z.L. Arkadie. Now I am going back to The Man From U.N.D.E.A.D. - The Curious Case Of The Kidnapped Chemist - Darren Humphries and dipping into Stone Rain - Linwood Barclay.
God, I love James Ellroy. I finished his novel L.A. Confidential, and just... wow. It's not a book for everyone, and it's not an easy read, but by the end of it I was amazed. If you're interested, you can find my review here.
