I started watching the show, but it was hard to reconcile the books with the characters, most Maura Isles. She doesn't fit my vision of her. But the series is good for what it is.

Allison, I feel the same way. I can't picture the goth figure (like Abby in NCIS) in the book when they present her as the total opposite in the show. I still like both. Unlike the Bones TV show compared to Kathy Reichs books, I don't care for the show after reading the books.

Body Double was much, much better and we learn a lot more about Maura Isles history. I'll admit, I'm more of a Jane Rizzoli fan than Maura fan, because Maura makes some dumb (IMO) decisions particularly related to men, but I like Maura's intelligence and she's a compelling character even when I want to wring her neck sometimes. I love Jane -- insecure and confident at the same time, which is hard to portray on the page but is done beautifully. She feels more real to me. What I love about the books is the growing friendship between Jane and Maura, which takes several books, which was a problem in the tv series for me because they were already best friends. If that makes sense ... anyway, Gerritsen is a terrific writer, so even if the story isn't to my liking, I'm always glad I read it.

I remembered how much I enjoyed Tami Hoag back when she began writing the suspense novels, then the horse thing turned me off. I picked up Deeper Than The Dead at the half-price bookstore the other day and just finished it. Just like the old days! Terrific. Not too much in-your-face torture and gore for me. This is a new series and I'm glad. I also purchased the very first Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child - I've never read those and keep hearing about them. Where have I been?!!

I just finished listening to The Secret Servant. The characters were believable and convincing. The plot took many twists and turns. I just don't like Chira. I find her a needy, insecure woman which is surprising for the kind of job that she does.

I just downloaded it. Kindle and the free downloads are definitely doing bad things to my reading habits!

I actually HAVE a TBR stack now, though it is a virtual one.

That's something I've never had before except for a couple of weeks after a trip to the library or a bookstore. I read fast and I read addictively. There is no way an unread book or a box of chocolates is going to stay unopened in my house for more than a few days.

Now, I have to admit I not only have 2 *real* books still unread from the last library trip, one *real* book from PaperBackSwap, 4 library loan downloads on the Kindle and FIVE unread Amazon Kindle downloads.

I have bookcases of books I keep to re-read. I've always done a lot of re-reading, something a reading addict learns to do, I think, when they can only manage a trip to the library once a month or even less and read as fast as I do. I have favorites from as far back as my pre-teens that I do re-read. But I've never had unread books in the house for more than a couple of weeks, maximum, until now ... thanks to the Kindle and the Internet!

I guess it's true you never get too old for new experiences!

I agree about Tami Hoag -- A THIN, RED LINE was one of my all-time fave books, plus ASHES TO ASHES and then the sequel DUST TO DUST, but I never finished the horse book. I have her newest (or second to newest) somewhere ... might have loaned it out. My mom is a HUGE Lee Child/Reacher fan and has read them all, I've read several. Fantastic. I just got my friend and her husband into reading them as well, and my mom got her best friend and husband to read them. No wonder he's so successful--everyone loves to recommend his books! (And he's a nice, gracious, generous author as well.)

Speaking of stockpiling books, I already had a Nook but someone recently gave me a free Kindle (3rd generation) and now books are already piling up there. I'll never get all these books read!

I do have to share though, I've been waiting for the price to drop on , which is over $16 as a Nookbook. I decided to check the Kindle price and it was only $1.99! Yet another ebook for the stacks...

I've noticed! and especially with a Kindle! I've only had the Kindle for a couple of months and for the first time in a long reading career I actually have books (on a virtual bookshelf anyway) that have been there for more than two weeks that have not been read!

My first TBR stack! I've been reading about all you readers with these shelves and stacks of books in your TBRs and feeling left out. At this rate, I should soon feel right at home.

Just finished "Tin City" by David Housewright. Set in Minnesota, it's light reading with strong characters, good plot and witty dialogue. I like it.

I've been reading/ re-reading some of the earlier Jonathan Kellerman books and this was one of them. Quite good, with an interesting plot.

I have enjoyed his works, too. And I've also enjoyed his wife's. I believe one son is writing now, too, but I haven't gotten to reading him yet. Too stuck on world war II, pre world war II, world war !, and pre world war 1. Different things, different times, will somehow attract and catch at different periods. Somehow some of the odd developments that allowed unheard of things to flourish in western Europe and the mediterranean and african area have captivated my attention.

I just finished an ARC of Left for Dead, my first time reading this author, and I am hooked. I would love to read more of her books or other mystery writers like her.

I also like Robert Crais Joe Pike/Elvis Cole, and Lee Child Jack Reacher (good action), and the cozy mysteries.

I've read a couple of books from this series but I actually prefer the J. P. Beaumont series to either the Joanna Brady or the Ali Reynolds series. For whatever reason, I prefer the author's male character to either of the female characters and I'm not quite sure why.

Until Proven Guilty is the first book in the Beaumont series. I think there are 19 or 20 in the series now and personally, while I liked all of them, I think they get better around mid-series. I liked the direction the author goes with the major character.

Hi Johnette -- LOVE ME TO DEATH is the first Lucy Kincaid book. However, she's first introduced as a secondary character in FEAR NO EVIL. I think her series stands on it's own but FEAR is essentially her backstory. Thanks for asking! :)

I agree! I stopped reading at #10 (or #11) but my mom still reads them as they come out because they're light and fun. I do miss Grandma Moser. (Hope I'm spelling that right!) I'm actually looking forward to the movie because Janet thinks that they did a great job with it. I rarely like movies from books. (Though I was pleasantly surprised that I liked the LINCOLN LAWYER even though they truncated the ending. Book was better, but movie was worth the $10)

I totally agree. I loved his early books. I haven't read his last couple, but my mom still enjoys him so I have his books stacked on my shelf. I think GONE was the last one I read. Good, but not my favorite.

I've also read all of Jonathan Kellerman's books (except the newest one). The early stuff was great, but when I actually stopped to think about it, a lot of my favorites were published in the mid-to-late 1990's - such as
, , and . The more Alex Delaware departed from his child psychologist background, the less I enjoyed the books.
