JSWolf | 649 comments What are the requirements for becoming a librarian?

Thanks.

You must have at least 50 books shelved, and hopefully thoroughly read the librarian manual before actually starting to do the work. Once you have 50 books shelved, members can apply, and I think they're generally accepted.

message 3: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 649 comments Thanks. I'd like to be a librarian. I'm close to 50 books. I only have to add 7 more then I can apply. I'll have a look around to see if I can find the librarian manual and have a read before I apply.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments JS,

The librarian manual, always being edited/having additions:

message 5: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 649 comments How long does it take to get a reply on being accepted or not?

message 6: by vicki_girl (last edited Mar 26, 2010 05:53AM) (new)

vicki_girl | 2764 comments Usually several days. I think it was 2-3 days for me. If you just applied, it is close to the weekend, and you may not hear anything until next week.

message 7: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 649 comments I did apply yesterday sometime. If I am not accepted this time, can I apply again?

message 8: by Abi (new)

Abi | 42 comments I think everyone who applies is accepted. Or maybe they aren't if there's some glaring reason, but I can't think what that might be.

message 9: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 649 comments I hope I am accepted. I really do want to help out here.

message 10: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 649 comments I still have not heard back. So I applied again. Does it normally take over a week to find out?

message 11: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) | 69 comments in my case a week/ a week and a half

message 12: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) | 69 comments what id really like to know is how to become a super-librarian

Goodreads staff handpicks superlibrarians. (They can't do that much more than other librarians; I'm always curious about the extra interest.)

They get to wear fancy super-librarian T-shirts. Very cool.

message 16: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 649 comments Well, it has been over a week as I originally applied on March 26. Has anybody who's applied not been accepted?

message 17: by Banjomike (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments I cannot remember how long it took for me to be approved but I would hope, (nothing personal jswolf), that there is some sort of procedure that the leaders go through (reading postings, looking at books/quotes/trivia added, etc) if only to exclude some of the bright sparks that the librarians will eventually spend much of their time correcting.

If it was an automatic acceptance it would really open the floodgates to a load of dross in the quotes/trivia/quiz(especially quiz) departments.

Just be patient.

Don't worry about it. Not everyone is accepted. Perhaps they don't need any more librarians yet.

message 24: by Zorana (new)

Zorana Mitrović | 1 comments I applied few days ago and in my profile, under my photo says that I am #11 top librarian but I didn't became one yet :o when i try to combine books i can't..

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments "Top librarian" just a phrase for books added by a particular country or somethng.

You need to see "goodreads librarian" under your profile to have librarian status.

Still confuses me (plus odd seeing #6 top librarian with three edits and another #89 top librarian with several thousand); but someone once explained it's some sort of country statistic.

Debbie wrote: ""Top librarian" just a phrase for books added by a particular country or somethng."

Not books added; book edits, which can including adding books, or editing books the user has added, both of which can be done by non-librarians. In countries with few GR members, a user who has added many books manually and/or made many edits to books they have added can end up on the list for their country. (This can also happen to authors without librarian status, if they make many edits to their profile or books.)

I'm in the same situation.

message 28: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Biedlingmaier | 2 comments Is there anywhere to check up on your status? I think it's been almost 2 weeks. Do you get an email in you goodreads email when they respond? Do they respond either way? Thanks!

message 29: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) I don't think they respond, You will just see Goodreads Librarian under your picture. Or there might be notification. I don't remember. Anyway you can still add books and help us out with giving book information and other.

message 30: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (lessnoise) | 10 comments I got an e-mail just one day after I requested this status, with a list of responsibilities, the DOs and DON'Ts. I guess I was lucky; I've only been here for a couple of days.

I think that if it takes such a long time for the response or if they have granted you this job but it has some glitches, you should contact them.
Hopefully it will work out.

When a librarian request is approved, the new librarian is sent an email. No notification is sent when a request is not approved.

message 32: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Biedlingmaier | 2 comments I have applied but haven't heard back and it's been over a week and a half. I told them I am only applying because I will be doing giveaways for the authors in our publishing firm. They wouldn't turn me down for that, would they?

Librarians have no abilities as far as giveaways are concerned. None.

No, actually they responded. I applied the data to be a Goodreads Librarian then several days later they sent me an e-mail about my new status as a Librarian.

message 35: by Huma (new)

Huma | 62 comments Yes they send you an email informing you that you have become a Goodreads Librarian and you can also see the tag under your profile picture on your page. No Notification though.

message 36: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (jenneken) | 1 comments I have requested Librarian status three times now and am getting no response whatsoever. I would really likt the status, I see so many mistakes/ missing date I'd like to fix and would rather do that myself than asking someone else every time to fix it...

There is nothing this group can do, you will need to contact GR Support since they are the people that approve Librarian requests

message 39: by Stella (new)

Stella Purple | 3 comments I applied many times but has been ignored so far. Seriously needs to edit my author pages though :/

lethe | 16359 comments Stella wrote: "I applied many times but has been ignored so far. Seriously needs to edit my author pages though :/"

Authors are seldom allowed general librarian status, but they should be able to edit their own books (up to a point) and author profile.

If you can't, you will have to contact support (at) goodreads (dot) com
