Adrienne (adriennemarietheresa) | 175 comments One of my girlfriends recently lost a parent that she was close to and the whole experience is really trying on her. I want to send her a surprise present in the shape of a book. Something to help her escape, make her smile and remind her how loved she is. She's an old neighbour that was my best afternoon coffee partner.

She's a fan of Dan Brown mysteries, but I'm not so I don't know anything similar she would enjoy. Though we, as a club, are reading The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie soon and that one IS a mystery. I like the idea of buying both of us a copy and reading it together, as well as the fact that there are more mysteries coming that she could get into.

Do you think Sweetness is fitting? Or any other mystery recommendations?

Thanks my chicks, in advance. ;)

Kathryn (kathrynh) The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie definitely is a fun mystery. I'm not a huge mystery fan and I just thought this book was great. It would be a fun read and certainly a light diversion for your girlfriend.

I'm sure just the fact that you are sending her a gift and thinking of her will make such a difference to her. Grief is such a personal thing, so be patient with her and listen to her, you will know what to do..

I can tell you are great friend.

Adrienne (adriennemarietheresa) | 175 comments Don't know if she reads Patterson. She spoke about Brown, me about my books and we'd always move on to kids and husbands and local goings on. hehe

Adrienne (adriennemarietheresa) | 175 comments I ended up buying The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! wasn't sure if she'd like the young protagonist in Sweetness and something about the other just drew me in. In the mail and on its way. Thanks for the discussion everyone. :)
