I wish I was Rose haha!

House of Night is HON.
I have the first 6 remember? I told u about them - that the main girl is a bit of a slut.
Yeah and there are quite a few more series out there with strong female vampire leads

Yeah well anything I write is ditsy LMAO its from my ditsy brain LOL I make up for the ditsy characters anyway LOL
I want a kick ass lead, but I have yet to learn more about writing LOL I think I lack structure and I procrastinate much...
ITs always better to read a female lead when she doesnt so much rely on the guy LOL it gets sickening after a while...

I love your take on it. Very insightful, observant and intuitive. And congratulations on achieving a great feat with your series. 16 years is a long time to develope your writing but I bet it was all worth it. I would very much like to read your series.

Also I will be checking out your website and see what you have written. From just reading your comment I have a feeling that I will like your personality.
LOL Rebekah, I totally agree with you on Bella. There is NO girl in the world that would turn down a diamond ring and an Audi.
And about your earlier comments concerning YA vampire novels I feel I must point out that although you are right in saying they are moneymakers and that publishing houses exploit mediocre authours, they serve their purpose well. That purpose being to get young people into reading. I don't know if you have noticed, but since the release of books like Twilight and Vampire Academy and other YA vampire books, children and young teens have flocked to bookstores to check out the latest books in the genre. They may seem inept and nearly unreadable to older readers such as ourselves because we've been introduced to a broader variety, but for younger people this is the stepping stone into that world of beautifully written pieces of work that go beyond the simplistic deluded ideas that cloud YA novels.
Without this stepping stone many readers today probably would not be interested in looking for in depth, better articulated novels.
So, rather than diluting the standards of reading for future generations, I'd say that these books are helping teach young readers. Through ya books they build their vocabulary, are introduced to concepts that are within their realm of understanding, and everything slowly builds from there.
After all, we have to learn to walk before we can run, right?

LOL I love this comment you wrote Rebekah 'there is something super creepy about that Bella chick. She has the emotional range of a 4 year old and is about as interesting as lawn furniture' hahaa! I couldn't stop laughing because its true and I agree 100% LOL
No, you are not out of touch. I understand where you're coming from but I personally don't see it as regressing. I see it as taking a different route to get to the same outcome. After all, reading is about preference. Each person is unique in their likes and dislikes, and also differ when it comes to individual reading ability and understanding of new concepts introduced in novels. While some may prefer Anne Rice, Tolken and Sylvia to start them off, others may prefer to approach the situation differently. And if we were to force young readers to start off at a certain, set standard of reading material, it might actually have the reverse effect of what is trying to be achieved, which is to build people up so they are able to read and enjoy in depth novels that people deem to be beautifully crafted. To start someone off with a novel way over their head is to take away their joy of reading, because instead of reading with understanding, they will be struggling to identify and relate to ideas in the book.
And yes, I was reading those types of novels a couple of years ago in high school as well. But it is nice once every now and then to sit down to one of these YA books and simply enjoy the story, however simple it might be.
((Loving this debate by the way. Your ideas are very interesting))
