Jean (KatWoman) | 5 comments The main characters are twins, I think or maybe just brothers. They go on a quest and end up meeting a dragon which is killed by a chicken.
I haven't actually read this - this is what I remember of the blurb on the back when I saw the book about 10 years ago.
It sounded interesting but I didn't have the money, and when I went back the book was gone and no one could help me - I have been looking ever since, maybe here I will be lucky. A few people I know also want to read it so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

laurenpie | 131 comments Argh! I just ran across this same plot this week: a dragon killed by a chicken! And, of course, I can't recall the title. Pretty sure I ran across it in this same group, as I've been working through all the posts from this group that are showing as "Unread" by me; I'm in the middle of posts last updated 4-years-ago.

Laurenpie--if you check, you'll notice that this is probably the other post you read, since the original post was from 2010. Someone just gave it a "bump" to the top.

message 5: by laurenpie (new)

laurenpie | 131 comments No, actually, the post in the other thread was written by a guy, and included the "chicken-kills-dragon" book's title. It wasn't the "solve" in the other post, but one of the suggestions. Though, yes, like this thread, it was old. :)

message 6: by laurenpie (new)

laurenpie | 131 comments Also, this particular thread is a 3-year old post; I've been working through 4-year old posts for a few weeks now, and I'm sure it's been less than a week ago that I ran across the similar thread.

Deborah | 179 comments Could the chicken be a rooster and the dragon a Cockatrice (dragon with rooster head)? The roosters crow is deadly to the cockatrice. In which case Chauntecleer the Rooster series The Book of the Dun Cow The Book of the Dun Cow (Chauntecleer the Rooster, #1) by Walter Wangerin Jr. perhaps.

I sent a tell off to Jean about someone suggesting a title for her. We'll see if she responds or not, but it looks like she hasn't been into GR at all this year--and even in 2012, after Feb, she didn't get on again.

message 9: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Just for the sake of being thorough, and because I like the thought that a Cockatrice could be the 'chicken.' I'll also suggest The Battle for Castle Cockatrice aka The Talking Parcel. It does mention dragons....

Jean (KatWoman) | 5 comments Hey, good people, thanks for bothering to read my old, old post.

Yes I am still interested in trying to find this book - it has been sitting at the back of what poses as my mind niggling at me occasionally.

Sorry I haven't been here much - went back to studying and life got in the road of my fun reading.

Will try and find the books you have suggested and see if one of them is what I am looking for.

Thank you once again for the help.

message 11: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Delighted - hope you find the book, and can let us know! :)

message 12: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) bump - I found the book Hatching Magic on my (physical) shelves and it looked like a Fit for one of the unsolved threads here. But now I can't find a thread that it would fit. I've not read the book yet, nor even the GR description of it, but I did 'search' for discussions here for Dragon and for Wyvern (because the term wyvern is on the back cover).

So, if anyone knows the *other* thread about dragons, like maybe about raising baby dragons especially, this book can be suggested there....

Jean, are you still looking for this?

message 14: by Jean (new)

Jean (KatWoman) | 5 comments Yes I am. Have had no luck, managed to find out more details of some of the suggestions here, but they are not quite what I remember of the book I am looking for.

I am not really active here at the moment, but I do look in occasionally - life has been getting in the road of me doing fun things like book hunting (and reading).

Thanks to all who have been giving me suggestions - when I get a hint I do go looking. Just no luck yet. . .

Good reading to all.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Rogues to Riches Rogues to Riches by J. Robert King

Description:Rengie and Tooles have a scheme to get rich quick ... little do they know they'll have to journey to the ice cap, ride cranky horses, joust warriors, fight frost giants, bargain with witches, use chickens to defeat dragons, and become noble despite themselves.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments *whoop* I'm so excited! I thought this one would never get solved.

A lead at last.

Hmm, I looked on GR and on amazon... where did you find that description Tab?

message 17: by Tab (new)

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Justanotherbiblophile, I found the description on Novelist book database.

message 18: by Tab (new)

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments If you have an OpenLibrary account, you can read Rogues to Riches.

I updated the description on OpenLibrary to reflect the blurb on the back of the book.

message 19: by Justanotherbiblophile (last edited Jun 25, 2014 05:08PM) (new)

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments So, NoveList (Plus) is a service sold to libraries, so you should start at your local library to find/use it.

http://www.ebscohost.com/novelist/our...

OpenLibrary has the same description (thanks Tab, but perhaps you should rewrite it since nobody wants to be a copyright thief), and its link is:

https://openlibrary.org/works/OL16026...

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Got the book, and cranked thru it this morning.

Not twins, two 18yo rogues (unknown if related, but doesn't feel like it).

Yes, they go on a quest (eventually).

Dragon is not killed by a chicken... But a chicken and pain to the dragon were involved:

(view spoiler)

Also, descriptive blurb which Tab posted is directly from the back cover, so probably fair use applies to posting it in other places.

Jean (KatWoman) | 5 comments Thanks heaps folks.

This does sound very like what I recall from the book all those years ago.

Am now about to try and track down a copy and read it.

Will let you all know how I go.

This place is the greatest.

Thanks again for all your help

Jean

message 22: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) so, calling it "Possibly Solved" - if you remember to let us know when you confirm, Jean, we'd appreciate it

message 23: by Jean (last edited Sep 17, 2014 03:30AM) (new)

Jean (KatWoman) | 5 comments Sorry, it may be a while yet before I can confirm this as I have not been able to track down a physical copy to read.

I am still searching for one though, and will let you know as I can.

Jean

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Jean, I found my copy on paperbackswap.com

I believe it's also available from amazon, for .01 and shipping costs...

Have you tried interlibrary loan, if you don't have money to buy a copy?

message 25: by Lobstergirl, au gratin (new)

Lobstergirl | 44924 comments Mod
Depending on the library system, interlibrary loan can have fees.

Ok...this thread is 12 years old, no activity since 2014, but how many books can there be with a dragon killed by a chicken. Moving from Possibly Solved to Solved.
