Only 6 are my actual girlfriends, the rest are their families, including one friend's mom and her best friend. And they are all friends from middle and high school (one from elementary school). One friend and her kids are coming from 2 1/2 hours away. We are very lucky to have each other and are trying to raise our kids all together since they are all pretty close in age. I love them all. I CAN'T WAIT!

I watched this and I couldn't stop laughing

K. M. R. (moisoha) | 4 comments Just saw it last night!!! AAAAHHH!!! Cécilia already said most of the things that I would, but I will say - toward the beginning of this I was a little confused about whether I was "Team Gale" or "Team Peeta". But Josh Hutchinson really made Peeta my favorite, especially when he first smiled. It was like: "AWWWWW!!!"

message 1504: by Lasse (new)

Lasse | 66 comments I found the movie amazing, but I was really surprised by all the people that was crying and walking out of the cinema during Rue´s death scene.

message 1505: by Tish (new)

Tish | 207 comments I haven't seen it yet, planning to go next weekend with my son, mom and sister, but may have to sneak out today and see it with my son (he's in a year-round school and is currently on break). I just found out that the movie was filmed in North Carolina! Yay NC! Well, okay, kind of a mixed yay that we have places that they could use for District 12...

message 1506: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Josh was WONDERFUL as Peeta! But I was surprised by how well Liam did as Gale. He's not my favorite, but he brought him to life.

Lasse, people walked out during Rue's death? They must not have read the books. (Or thought much about the concept, you know... fight to the death, one winner, lmao. It was kind of expected at some point.) I did cry though. My friend was laughing because she could hear me sniffling.

message 1507: by Lasse (new)

Lasse | 66 comments Well they did come back again later but still I have never seen so many people walking out during a movie like in this one, I think atleast 15 people was going outside during Rue´s death scene.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Josh was wonderful? AHHH!!!!!!!!!!! MUST SEE!

Related topic: People need to quit tumbling when Josh is in Kentucky. Last night some girl was like "Josh Hutcherson is home. He was at Krogers" which I proceed to die because well...I have no life and he's pretty. (Or because the serious dearth of boys near me). My overactive imagine can not handle it.

Heidi I. Am. So. Excited. Ugh!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi wrote: "I. Am. So. Excited. Ugh!"

Everything everyone has been saying on twitter & my facebook are getting me pumped. Sounds like a good movie. Why am I waiting till Sunday again?

message 1511: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) The movie??? EXCELLENT!! Josh Hutcherson is STILL not my idea of Peeta (sorry, Cassi!), but I'm stuck with him so I'll make the best of it. Whichever Hemsworth it is that's playing Gale (I get their names wrong all the time)? I think I'm switching to Team Gale! What a hottie!! Jennifer Lawrence, Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz could not possibly be more spot on in their roles. The theater my friend & I went to was packed. There was a busload of kids from one of the Cherry Creek schools, one from Denver Public schools and one from Aurora Public schools. Lots of older women like my friend and me and even some older men. Mixed crowd and don't think anyone was disappointed.

message 1512: by Bethany (new)

Bethany | 578 comments Yeah, I went to the midnight showing and the movie was awesome. I was so happy with the adaptation. There were little things that they tweaked that I wish they hadn't, but overall I'm super happy with the outcome. Most importantly...the movie FELT like the Hunger Games. I loved it so much and I'm gonna go see it again tonight with my mom :)

And I will NEVER EVER EVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRR switch teams! I'm team Peeta all the way and I loved Josh.

message 1513: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahaha, I saw it again today!

I'm still Peeta, and actually this just reaffirmed it for me. Josh was great!

message 1514: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Josh is a good actor, he's just not what I pictured from the first description in the book. There were only 2 characters I ever really had a strong picture of in my head....Peeta & President Snow. I pictured Ian Holm as Snow, but think Donald Sutherland was a great choice for the part. Hunter Parrish was Peeta for me, even when I didn't really realize that's who I was actually seeing. He would have had to beef up a bit, but Taylor Lautner is a perfect example of doing that. So, I'll forever see him in my head even though that's not who I'm seeing on the screen!

message 1515: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Nobody people said as Peeta really fit for me. Some more than others, but none of them were 'it'. I never thought of Josh at all, but when I found out I thought his spirit would fit Peeta, and because of that I knew I would love him. For me, it was the look in his eyes, his temperament.

message 1516: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka Too much importance on the looks, not enough on the performance. People still criticized Jennifer for being too curvy for a character who's been starving her whole life. But characters are entities used to say something and actors must be able to embody their characteristics to carry out the message. I didn't picture Haymitch like that at all, but damn, I don't give a fuck, because I love what Woody did with the character. The rest is secondary. But well, if people don't like the way the actors portray their characters, there's nothing left to say anymore xD

Btw, reminds me that, on my THG website, some girl called Woody and Josh "pathetic" in their roles. o_ô

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I wrote about blog about how we're too caught up on appearences. It deeply bothers me in a book that partially satires a society that is wrapped up in appearences that the readers walk away talking more about that than anything else when casting decisions are made.

message 1518: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I can't say I don't fall into the conversations where people go 'they don't look anything like so-in-so'. Like Heigl as Stephanie Plum. But I think it's more of a sense of the characters spirit that they need to match for me, more than exact looks. I think they all did that.

Excuse me for stating my opinion that Josh wasn't what I had in mind for a character. Didn't mean to step on anyone's toes and will be sure and keep my thoughts to myself from now on. Sorry about that. Still liked the movie a lot, so guess it is okay to say that.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments We're not saying anything specific about you. Honestly what you said was mild compared to a lot of the critiques based on appearances. It's just something I've contemplated and wondered.

message 1522: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka As Cassi says, I was not targeting you in particular in my comment, note how I said "people" and immediately followed with that journalist's comment about Jen. Loosen your corset, have a drink. Jeez. Self-absorbed much?

I didn't say you had no right not to like Josh's appearance for Peeta. I was just saying that we should be able to overlook that detail and judge actors for what they do : act (which you barely comment on, so yeah, my brain only registered the 10 lines of rant about him not being your ideal Peeta physically which engaged me on a rant about PEOPLE, and again, not you especially, criticizing mainly the actors' looks so forgive me Your Majesty if I offended you). I had very heated reactions myself at the announce of the casting but I always thought I should wait to see the movie to have an objective opinion.

And just so you know, sweetheart, Hunter's always been my favourite Peeta too in terms of looks. Now, I shall pour myself a glass of whiskey and pray that there is ice in my freezer.

message 1523: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 24, 2012 09:39PM) (new)

I am just now decompressing over having watched the midnight showing (a friend of mine rented out a whole theater for us so we were just die hard fans together - it was great!!!).

I need to get over my disappointment of feeling like this scene or what scene didn't make it into the movie or that they could have let some scenes go (like Peet's cake-baking camouflage) in favor of adding in other scenes (like Katniss drugging him so she can go get his medicine.)

I think it will take a few viewings before I can accept this as its own movie and not a comparison to the book.

Effie was definitely the closest performance/look to how I pictured the character.

I wanted to ask - what divided our audience most was the inclusion of scenes that we don't actually see until the second book (edited this out for spoilers - thought I had the spoiler alert on and realized I didn't - but if you've read the books and watched the movies then you know what they are.)

I personally liked seeing these (details edited out for spoilers). I would also rather see these things as they happen rather than hearing about them second hand when we move onto Catching Fire.

But half the people I watched with said it upset the narrative of the book which was supposed to be just Katniss' POV and her small, contained world and needs before moving onto a bigger POV in the other books.

I thought the District 11 thing actually added to the movie. Without it Katniss' actions would have been lessened, I think.

Interesting point about how the POV changed a bit in the movie. I actually said that to my husband, who hasn't read the books.

Back when the movie was just being made I was really nervous about how they would pull off keeping the dark desolate feel of the movie, and keep it at the PG13 rating for the target audience. The books really get into the battles and the deaths, and they definitely showed it, they just used fast camera action to tone down the brutality of it (vs. how it would have been as a rated R movie). I think that showing more of the behind the scenes with Seneca and the Capital was really smart, since some of the battle had to be toned down.

message 1527: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylawrites89) | 352 comments I am 74% through the book, I'm loving it and I want to see the movie. The thing is, I don't like to put movies and books to comparison because more likely than not, the book is so much better than the movie. So, by itself I want to see the movie, but I'm definitely glad I'm reading the books, they are not disappointing. :)

message 1528: by Mira (new)

Mira | 4 comments For me Josh was just not "THE" Peeta I pictured. Over all the movie was AWESOME! My only complaints are that it seemed a bit rushed and there were some parts that were cut out or altered when they shouldn't have been. I honestly loved that you could see what the gamemakers were doing.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) To all the REAL fans of The Hunger Games: This reaction to Cinna and Rue in the book/films is disgusting and very sad. I had higher hopes that the younger generation wouldn't be as stupid as their adult counterparts since many young people attend school/socialize with kids of varying ethnicities. REAL Hunger Games fans need speak out loudly. There is no place for racism anywhere in the books or the films:

By the way, it's rather telling those who have posted such ignorant comments suffer greatly in the spelling and grammar areas.

message 1530: by Lasse (new)

Lasse | 66 comments WTF that makes me angry especially the comment about someone didnt find Rues dead so sad because she was black.

I found Rue in the movie to be so adorable, it is a really good cast in my opinion, I honestly dont care what colour of skin any of the actors have that has nothing to do with their acting skills.

message 1531: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Rue was amazing! And people like that are sick and twisted! I didn't even read it yet and I'm already pissed off!

(Um, not to mention that Rue WAS black!)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Rue was adorable in the movie and her skin color was mentioned in the book.

Lenny wasn't who I pictured as Cinna but I ended up liking him in the movie more than I expected to.

It is really scary & sad that there are still so many stupid, ignorant people in the world. The actors who played Rue & Thresh were absolutely perfect. As was Lenny Kravitz. People like all those morons listed in the jezebel.com article make you fear for the human race.

message 1534: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I am not reading it because it will make me n=mad but both actors were fantastic in their roles!

Kayla (kaylawrites89) | 352 comments I finished the book, loved it!!! I also saw the movie... it wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be, but it was still good. Not as good as the book though, but it was worth it.

message 1536: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka "Black bitch" "nigger".

I wonder how many people moved out of the country since Obama was elected ? Trololol.

Welcome to the 21st century, ladies and gentlemen. A world where women are equal to men, yet are still the first creature the most brutalized in the world (according to statistics, the animal comes 2nd) and where black people are finally considered human yay but oh no wait, they're still not the right color and they "ruin movies" !

*brb throwing myself out the window*

I 100% agree with you. The book is one of my top favorites, but I thought the movie could have been better.. I heard that Suzanne Collins wrote the screenplay too, so that was pretty disappointing to me. In the end, I still liked it because the book is incredible and I'm sure I'll watch it again!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments GUYS THE MOVIE KINDA BLEW MY MIND.

Honestly it was like a grown up movie not a teen movie. AHHHHHH!!

(I might have more coherent reactions at some point but right now it's just like IMPRESSED IMPRESSED IMPRESSED)

message 1539: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I really think I need to watch the movie again to really judge it if that makes sense??

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi wrote: "I really think I need to watch the movie again to really judge it if that makes sense??"

Makes sense to me. Sometimes in a second viewing (or reading of a book) you can be less OMGOMGYOMG and observe more. Watching my dad, who had never read the books watch it and see that afterwards he was impressed (and dad's got pretty good taste) confirmed to me that I wasn't just fangirling.

message 1541: by Heidi (new)

Heidi That's good to hear Cassi (about your dad). I just felt like it all went by so fast and I was focusing more on how they "created the world and characters" so much that I missed half of it. It did NOT seem like a 2.5 hour movie to me.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi wrote: "That's good to hear Cassi (about your dad). I just felt like it all went by so fast and I was focusing more on how they "created the world and characters" so much that I missed half of it. It did..."

It did seem to fly by. Dad warned me ahead of time that he'd probably fall asleep because he can rarely sit for that long. But every time I looked at him he was totally into the movie.

I'd see it again.

What's weird is I didn't even have snarky commentary. Even with things I love I always seem to make jokes/snark. But this movie I just cringed and teared-up at all the appropriate times.

message 1543: by Caryn (new)

Caryn (carynreads) I saw the movie today, and it was amazing! I loved it..sooo good. I cried during so many parts, and all the characters fit their roles perfectly. They weren't actors, they "were" the characters. My comments might not be very coherent b/c it was just that awesome I can't think straight.

(view spoiler)

The only thing I didn't like was (view spoiler) And if that's my only complaint, not bad for a movie!

Cassi, you should hot-foot it up to Cincy for the Reds opening night game! Josh is throwing out the first pitch! I would imagine the game is sold out!!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I don't think the Reds games ever sales out. (Or at least that's what someone who goes to a lot of games told me once).

They don't often sell out, but with him throwing out the first pitch I bet it does! It's next Saturday night. I get e-mails from them and got one yesterday with the Josh info in it. My husband's still a Reds fan even though he's been gone from Ohio for almost 38 years!

Just chiming in. I devoured the books, but wasn't "on fire" about seeing the movie. But after hearing about all the racist comments some ignorant folk were saying (read about it in a yahoo article), you can bet I'm seeing this movie this weekend to show my support for diversity.

Let's just say I'm pretty crazy about diversity in books and movies and the arts...and in my life. :)
