Hello! I only recently joined Goodreads, and this group and your 2015 challenge immediately called to me. I'm a performer and writer (primarily of scripts for young performers and/or young audiences). My passion is creating adaptations that lead kids on treasure hunts through the classics of literature, music, art, and legend. The Forest looks like the perfect place to discover new treasures and share the pleasures of old ones.

Hi, I am Mila and I have recently joined goodreads. I am looking for a way to be involved that this group looks like a good place to start, since I love fairy tales, myths and retellings. I am excited for the challenge and to meet new people.

Greetings y'all, My name is Rusty Nugent. I am a southern dark fantasy paranormal with elements of horror, honor, action, adventure, blood, guts and romance Author. I am 43 and and writing on my third novel in the series. My books are about heroic werewolves waging war against evil vampires and other evil supernatural creatures.
I retired from my job as a high school librarian last year and I find I have time for more groups and challenges. I enjoy tellings and retellings and your challenge looks like lots of fun! I do have one question about the challenge. Since I am joining in May and the challenge started in January, can I count books I read starting in Jan, 2015 that fit the tasks?
Welcome to the group, Karen!
And sure, you're allowed to count any books you may have read this year.

Hello everyone. I'm glad to be here. I have researched fairy tales, folklore and myth for most of my life. It's always a pleasure to meet other people with the same passions. In addition to being an avid reader, I am also an author. I will paste my bio below, just in case anyone is interested. Thanks for having me as a participant in the group. :)Bio: Once upon a time, Carina Bissett wrote travel articles and books about the Southwest. These days, she spends her time crafting twisted fairy tales and cross-pollinated mythic fiction. Her short fiction and poetry can be found at the Journal of Mythic Arts, The NonBinary Review, Timeless Tales and other assorted journals and anthologies. For links to stories and poems, stop by www.carinabissett.com.

Yum. I've just discovered this group. I'm addicted to myths and fairy tales and the psychological layers underneath. I write modern psychological mysteries with a mythical twist, but I'm mainly in this group to find books to read for pleasure and inspiration.
Welcome to the group, Virginia.
WE do have an area dedicated to the group's authors and their promotions, if you'd like to talk about your books.

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome and all the threads to catch up on. I will post something about my work when I've had time to get a feel for the group :-)
Hi Everyone,I got my start reading children's adaptations of Grimm, La Fontaine, and others, and quickly moved into mythology thanks to Homer and Ray Harryhausen. I was obsessed by Dungeons & Dragons in the 70s and got a job with Games Workshop in the 80s, and I've been in the games industry ever since, drawing on myth and folklore as often and as heavily as I can.
Recently I've started writing non-game books about myth and folklore, mostly for Osprey Publishing, and I'm working to expand on this.
I blog at https://graemedavis.wordpress.com/, tweet at @GraemeJDavis, and Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Graeme-Davis.... I'm always looking to discuss history, myth, and folklore with likeminded folks!
Hello everyone. Glad to have found this group. I enjoy reading fairy tales and reading about fairy tales and have been dabbling in writing a few as well.

Hi Katie! Great to meet a fellow Oncer here! I love Beauty and the Beast, too, even though my favourite tale is Rumpelstiltskin these days... But that still brings us pretty close, I think ;) If you haven't already read them, I can highly recommend the two (!!) Beauty and the Beast tales in The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories. And there is also a nice one in A Wild Swan: And Other Tales.-- Does that also count as an introduction for myself? Sorry, I thought I had done that already. My name is Wolf and, amazingly enough, I STILL like fairy tails, as painful as it is to constantly get your belly filled with stones and be drowned in wells or beaten to death. That's one possibe reason why I often like the retellings more than the originals. But you've got to know the latter to appreciate the former, don't you? And I'll read pretty much anything that doesn't run away fast enough, anyway.
Glad to have found this group!
Wolf wrote, " My name is Wolf and, amazingly enough, I STILL like fairy tails, as painful as it is to constantly get your belly filled with stones and be drowned in wells or beaten to death."Welcome to the group, Wolf.
My favorite wolf story is Bisclavret, the 12th century story-poem by Marie de France. You can find it in collections, or online. It's not considered a fairy tale, or at least I never find it listed as one, but it reads like a fairy tale to me, and the [were-]wolf is the hero.

Welcome Wolf!
Welcome Wolf!
Katie: Yes, of course it's all about Rumple/Gold/Robert Carlyle. He's awesome. :) -- I hope you'll enjoy The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories!Susan: Right, Bisclavret... I still haven't read the original, even though I've encountered it in several retellings already. I've got this weird obsession of wanting to read this one (and Beauty and the Beast, btw) in French, and that always is a huge obstacle. Maybe I should give it up. Or just do it. :)
And thanks for the welcomes!
Wolf, yeah and medieval French, to boot. And verse, so translators have a harder time getting us close to the original. My French is rudimentary (good for "getting the drift" while researching), so I read a translation, myself, and really the character and story rather than the poetry were enough to appeal to me.

And there is also a nice one in A Wild Swan: And Other Tales."Rumpelstiltskin is probably in my top-three when it comes to fairy tales -- back when I was dating my husband he posed a hypothetical "first-born child" scenario to me, which I ended up writing into a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin, Rumpled. I' also love what Once Upon a Time has done with the character of Rumpelstiltskin, although I'm watching them on Netflix so have only just started season 3. No spoilers, please. :)
My other favorites are Rapunzel (apparently I go for those strange R names) and The Goose Girl. I agree with you about the Beauty and the Beast retellings in The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories -- those were definitely my favorites in that collection. There was something so primordial about them.
Hi, my name is James. I live in Denver, CO, USA. I am a longtime enthusiast of folklore, myth, etc. I was very happy to join this group, and look forward to reading with you all.

Hi all,My name is Sequoia Nagamatsu. I'm the author of a forthcoming Japanese folklore and Pop-culture inspired story collection called Where We Go When All We Were Is Gone, and I'm also working on a novel and second collection. During the day, I'm a professor of creative writing (currently at The College of Idaho near Boise and soon to be at St. Olaf in Minnesota).
Originally from Hawaii (Oahu) and the San Francisco Bay Area but have spent much of my adult life in Japan and the Midwest.
Apart from reading and writing, I love watching horror movies, being distracted by my cat, and collecting curios (i.e. faux taxidermy of mythological creatures).
I love fairy tales, folklore, myths, and legends (and associated reimagined and fractured work). Looking forward to exploring the group.

Ah, just didn't know what to do with the date fields when adding to the shelf. No group! But feel free to check out the details on the book if you're into Japanese folklore/myths. :)
Hello to you all,I've joined the group a few weeks ago, so it's high time for me to introduce myself and take part in the discussions.
I'm a French reader, deeply fascinated since childhood by mythology and folklore. I love mythic fiction, mythpunk, modern retelling of ancient lore, urban fantasy, and am a fan of Tanith Lee, Léa Silhol, Catherynne Valente, Terri Windling, Charles de Lint...
I've also worked as a chronicler with former online and paper 'zine Fées Divers.
Au plaisir (as we say in France) :-)
