That's a great book- and one of my favorite Sarah Dessen's.

Courtney (crice26) | 4 comments I love it!!! Have you read any other books by her?

message 2255: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I've read 'em all- up till the one she's probably going to start writing soon. ^_^

message 2256: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments What is she going to start writing? And am I reading that correctly, that you won't want to read it?

message 2257: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments No, I WILL read it, Sarah Dessen just hasn't (to my knowledge) started writing her next book yet.

message 2258: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I haven't read Along for the Ride yet. I think I shall add it to my list.

natalie | 5047 comments Finished Twilight. Faster than the first time I read it, but I don't think that's going to be the case with New Moon. The first time I read Twilight, it took 5 days, this time three, New Moon took me two, but I don't think it's going to be the case this time. If you haven't guessed, I am reading New Moon. I noticed some things while rereading....

message 2261: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Guuuurl, it took me like 2 week to read TWILIGHT. so you're good!

message 2262: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Harries (melanieharries) Finished Thirteen Reasons Why! I fully recommend this book to all teenage girls! I think, whether we know it or not, every single one of us has encountered a Hannah in our lives...

Now I have to re-read Lolita for school :)

You have to read Lolita for school?
Maaaaannnnn. That would NEVER happen where I'm from :P

message 2266: by Baxter (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 383 comments Seriously, Lolita for school? That's wack!
I need to get enrolled there right this instant.

message 2267: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) lol, you'd love it Baxter :)

The coolest book we read in school was Dante's Inferno, because basically Dante was an angry dude who put all these people he didn't like in Hell and then came up with really imaginative punishments for them. We got to do a project where we built our own hell, with our own punishments and stuff, but the teacher said we weren't allowed to put anyone specific in there, haha. :P

message 2268: by Baxter (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 383 comments I totally do love Lolita. One of my favorite books...which probably doesn't surprise anyone...ANYWAY.

That sounds like an AWESOME project! Man, if only my school would let me build my own hell. I swear I have like, four copies of the Inferno laying around my room but I still haven't read it. No idea why.

message 2269: by Miss Amelia (last edited Aug 08, 2011 04:06PM) (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) I guess it's all relative...
1) reading about pervy Humbert Humbert
or
2) building your own personal Hell, haha

ahh, the enigma of high schools.

Amelia, that is the greatest assignment ever!

message 2271: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) lol!

message 2272: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Amelia- that sounds like a great assignment- but we'd never do that at my school, sadly. Darn Catholic school ^_^

message 2273: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) haha hey that sounds like a perfect assignment for a Catholic school! I went to a Christian private school and we did it :P

message 2274: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Hahah true, Catholics do believe in Purgatory.
(Don't make me go into the Catholic church, I'm not a big fan of it. And I can say that having gone to a Catholic school for a year and taken Religion and had school mass every few weeks.)

message 2275: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) I like it when I go to mass with my cousins. I personally like the more formal services, because I go to a really laid-back evangelical church, so it's cool to get a different perspective.
And idk, I think it would be a good lesson for any private school (except maybe nonsectarian) because teachers can get into the theology and the church history of it all. I so want to teach at a private Catholic school or a private Christian school when the time comes. I like the freedom of private schools! :P

message 2276: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Coballes (samcoballes) I just started reading Uncommon Criminals.

message 2277: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Samanttha- I've been meaning to read that.

Amelia- I don't mind the Masses so much but there are several things that i don't like about it. And I go to a pretty typical United Methodist church- it's laid back, but still formal and I feel like my church is more accepting than most Catholic assemblies that i run into. As UM's, we make our typical jokes about Baptists- all in good jests and we have a good time, but we as a whole are generally accepting of other denominations and such. Catholics give off the appearance of not wanting to have anything to do with you if you aren't Catholic..... Hey mods, maybe we should open a religion topic since every so often we get onto this topic.

message 2278: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) hahaha I'm Southern Baptist/Church of Christ (dad's family is one, Mom's family is the other) so it's all good, I know exactly what you're talking about with the SBC/UMC/COC funfest =]

message 2279: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments In church/Youth Group, we'll be talking about something and then a person will be mentioned and that they're baptist and then it's typically said that we won;t hold it against them for that. :) And we pretend to scoff at baptists. It's great fun- especially since one of my close friends is baptist. ^_^

message 2280: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) yeah I even think it's like a historic thing or something. My granddad talked about softball matches with 'those Methodists' (completely joking and stuff). Haha :P maybe it's a Southern thing? (at least, I think WV is considered 'Southern,' it's not Yankee, lol)

message 2281: by Rebekah Faith (last edited Aug 09, 2011 02:04PM) (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Hahaha, yeah, we're sorta on the border. but the Mason-Dixon line falls above us so I guess we technically are. It's right on the flat part thats the MD/WV border between our panhandles.

message 2282: by Baxter (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 383 comments I'm reading an AMAZING amazing amazing autobiographical comic called Blankets, by Craig Thompson. This is something I can really connect to and understand because most everything he has talked about so far (I'm about to start chapter three) I can relate to in some form or another.

"The personal Savior concept of Christianity is what appealed to me, the good shepherd neglecting the herd to search for the lonely, lost lamb...not this mass mentality." And all that's being said as he is at a Christian ski resort and some Christian rock band is playing and everybody around is singing together. Might not sound too impressive, but that was the moment that really hit me and made me realise that this is something really special.

Melanie Harries (melanieharries) re: Reading Lolita for school

I'm including it in a wide-reading English assignment, which I have titled "The Nature of the Villian". I'm looking into what makes a character evil. :)

Basically I just wanted an excuse to reread such a well written piece of literature! The subject might put my religious education teacher off but my English teacher has no problem with anyone reading something so masterfully written :)

hmm, interesting topic. I'd say any adult who has sex with a child would be in the 'evil villain' range. Shortest essay ever ;P

So. I was wrong. Really wrong, in fact. I read New Moon in two days, started Eclipse the same day I finished new Moon, finished Eclipse the next day, yesterday, and I am in part 2 of Breaking Dawn. So, I'm reading them quite fast I think! Faster then I read them last time, that's for sure.

message 2297: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) It's pretty good. In fact, it's one of the best dystopians I've ever read. It has me desperate for the sequel, which is always good =]

message 2298: by Diana (new)
