That was good too. I hope your library gets it soon. Mine is really great about getting new books, except when it isn't. (Which seems to happen a lot more often since I joined GR)

Amelia and Kate- It really irks me, and I've been seeing a lot of it lately but I don't say anything because i'm trying to be nice about it.

*sighs* Ally..."

I still haven't read Heist Society. I've been meaning to for awhile though.

message 2204: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments You should. I liked it a lot- and I'm hoping that UC will be as good as Kate says it is.

Exactly.

I really liked Uncommon Criminals, although there were a few bits that I thought could have been done a little better.

(view spoiler)

message 2206: by Mayze (new)

Mayze I just started All the King's Men which I've been meaning to read for a while, and I'm super psyched for.

message 2207: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Kat- which was better in your opinion- HS or UC?

message 2208: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments So close to being done with Someone Like You, then re-reading Twilight..

message 2209: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I finished Jellice Road and have started Juliet Marrillier's Daughter of the Forest.

message 2210: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) That's one of the only Marilliers I haven't read. Tell me if you like it!

message 2211: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Way- I need to read her books. You talk a lot about them ^_^

Nat- thoughts?

message 2212: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Marillier is the bomb.com, to use an oldie-but-goodie phrase.

Natalie, that's a good idea. I need to brush up on my TWILIGHT, too. That, and my Percys. :DDDD

message 2213: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I brushed up a bit on my Percy's around February when we read TLT in class. :)
I do need to brush up on my Harry's. ^_^ And read the million books I've been told I should read.

message 2214: by James (new)

James (theadventurousbookreader) I am reading right now is So you want to be a Wizard by Diane Duane. Also, I'm reading The Shadow Theives by Anne Ursu.

message 2215: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Rae-probably Heist Society. Probably. I really liked Uncommon Criminals too.

What's Daughter of the Forest about? I feel like I've heard of it, but I can't remember.

message 2216: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (smiley_molko) | 65 comments I just got done reading Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost . It was really good and I like it a lot better than I thought I would.

Now I don't know what to read. :/

message 2218: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Kate- Cool. I don't want to be expecting an amazing book and then be let down- I'm much more okay with it being the other way around. :) Of course, no expectations is even better.

message 2219: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Yeah, but it's pretty hard to have no expectations. Just go in expecting a fun read, not a masterpiece, and you should be fine.

message 2220: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Yeah, that's always a good move. Of course, with a series you always have expectations.

message 2221: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Yup. I can try to lower them for you if you want. "Uncommon Criminals was the worst book I've EVER read" :P

message 2222: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments hahaha but then i won't wanna read it!

message 2223: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Okay, umm.. "Uncommon Criminals was fine, but nothing compared to the first one" Is that better?

message 2224: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Amelia, the pragmatic idealist wrote: "That's one of the only Marilliers I haven't read. Tell me if you like it!"

I'm only two chapters in, but my, the chapters are long! Wildwood Dancing's chapters weren't half so long.
I like it so far. I love Sorcha and Finnbar's relationship as brother and sister. It reminds me a lot of two of my own characters. Same was Connor. He reminds me of one of my charries.

RAE! You simply MUST read some Juliet Marrillier. I'm surprised that you haven't yet.

message 2226: by Nafisa (new)

Nafisa Choudhury (nafisalivestowrite) I just finished Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught .
I finished it in two days, getting so hooked that I promptly forgot all my homework, read it during class, in bed, and in all my habituated nooks and corners of my house. Truth to tell, I didn't LOVE it, I just Really LIKED it. XD

message 2227: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments Someone Like You was good, thank you for forcing me, Rae. :) I want to read more of her books...

50 pages into Twilight.. I've been wanting to reread them for awhile now, so I'm happy I finally am. I've also wanted to brush up on Percy..

That's good to know. I was intimidated by the length. Have you read Marillier's CHRONICLES OF BRIDEI series? The first book of the trilogy, The Dark Mirror, is my favorite. Also, it's pretty clean, for an adult novel :P I would SOOOOO recommend reading that one as well! Also, her new novel Heart's Blood is great too. It's like partly influenced by the tale of "Beauty and the Beast," which I luuuurrrve. That one's good too, but not as good as THE DARK MIRROR (or, from what I've heard, DAUGHTER OF THE FOREST)

@ Rae: You must read some Marillier! I'd actually recommend reading Wildwood Dancing first, because it's shorter, geared toward teens (I almost wish I'd read it before her adult novels, because those are good, but kind of nuanced and sometimes hard to get through). DAUGHTER OF THE FOREST is what a lot of people consider her best work, but like I told Way, THE DARK MIRROR is my personal favorite, and HEART'S BLOOD is really good as well!
And hey, she's coming out with a brand-new series for Young Adult!! YAY!

message 2229: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I'm currently reading The Looking Glass Wars, an alternate story to Alice in Wonderland, which pretty much says that Lewis Carroll completely misrepresented an actual place, story, and characters, a place currently at war. I wasn't sure I would like it since I haven't read/seen Alice in Wonderland (or through the Looking Glass, etc.) in a reaaalllyy long time, but it's really good.

The one upside to having shin splints is that I have 30 minutes built in to every day after running where I have to ice, which gives me a great excuse to read. I never thought I would say there was a positive side to being injured especially to having shin splints, but I guess I was wrong.

message 2230: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) AAAAAAAACK.
That is the best series ever!!!!!
I love Frank Beddor.
(though IMO the first book is the best one)

message 2231: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments The first book is often the best, but so far I have high hopes for the rest.

I'm glad to have such an enthusiastic review!

That book is great, but highly depressing.

Half way into Twilight.

message 2236: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) I definitely agree with you, Natalie, about it being depressing. :P

message 2237: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Way and Amelia- Blame me not having read Juliet Marrillier on my library. I don't believe they have any of her books. And I'll take that into consideration, Amelia.

Kate- hahaha we'll make it work. ^_^

Nat- i KNEW you would like it!

I need to read those, My brother owns all but the last one- and the library has copies of that so they;re basically waiting for me to finally pick it up.

message 2239: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I had read about them a bunch of times, but never had the inclination to actually put them on hold, since I'm so poorly versed in the world of Wonderland, but I'm currently on vacation and the library here has a dismal YA/teen section. I saw the book and figured why not. I'm glad I did. Now I just need to get the next one...

message 2240: by Gloria (new)

Gloria (deargloria) I'm reading Die for Me =so far so good but there are some parts of it I'm a bit MEH about it. But it's a good book...so far.

Hahaha, yeah. I'm the opposite. I love the world of Wonderland- it's pretty much my favorite land behind the HP verse.

I finished 'Smoke & Mirrors' by Neil Gaiman, and am now reading one of his books for younger readers, Coraline. The writing is so different between the two!

message 2243: by Frank (new)

Frank I've read some of Neil Gaiman's comic-book work, but I never picked up one of his books, maybe I should do that.

Anyway, just finished Batman: Dark Victory, and I will probably move on to Homeland by R.A. Salvatore.

message 2244: by ★ Jess (new)

Oh, you definitely should. He is a terrific writer!

Which comics of his have you read? I'll need to read some of those. Any suggestions?

message 2245: by Frank (new)

Frank He is most known for the Sandman series. It is kind of a required taste, but I still recommend it. The first collection of the issues is called Preludes and Nocturnes.

He also does some Marvel and DC work (including Batman), but I can't think of anything specifically right off the top of my head.

Its been added to by "To-Read-List". Ive heard of them before, but never checked hem out.

message 2247: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 06, 2011 07:50PM) (new)

Definitely agreeing with the recommendation of The Sandman series. One of my favourites of all time. Other comics of his I recommend are:

Death: The High Cost of Living
Death: The Time of Your Life
1602
Black Orchid

His Batman work is also dark and amazing; some of my favourites from that DC classic. <3

message 2248: by Baxter (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 383 comments Yeah, agreed with other people. The Sandman really is the best thing Gaiman has done. And it's one of the best comic book series ever.

message 2249: by Lexi (new)

Lexi I'm reading The Wednesday Wars, has anybody read and liked that book?

message 2250: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I really liked that book, Lexi. I red it a few years ago, and then a few years before that, so I don't remember everything, but it was funny and had a good story.
