That is AMAZING!!

When I was little I had a crush on Robin Hood, the fox. I even remember having a dream where he kissed me when I was 4 and when I woke up I was all excited and happy! Haha!

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments Yeah, its been this idea ingrained in educator's head for so long that gifted and talented kids need more work. I hope someday soon that way of thinking will be broken because it's not benefiting anyone

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments Haha! My boyfriend has a crush on Kim Possible (but her mom is a doctor)

Yeah, that wasn't the best wording for it. They probably didn't mean it in a mean way...or maybe they did, who knows. But it's not like gifted students are a different species than "normal" students. Haha... oh school officials :-p

really? hmmm that does stink. I was in GT as a kid and we didnt do ANY work...well I mean, we did projects, but we didnt have any grades :D

Now in HS I was in AP...and there's a difference! AP=much more work. Both GT and AP are advanced, but AP was more school-related, if that makes sense. I loved GT :)) I want to be GT-certified, too, but apparently that's a shrinking market :(

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments You know who is a hot animated animal character? Justin, the rat, from Secret of Nymph. I don't know what it is about him, but he's attractive (LOOOL!!)

message 158: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments There's a book? Haha I never knew that. I just have the animated movie. Which I've loved for years and years (ever since I was like... 5 or 6!)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments Yes!! If the college you plan to go to has a Creative Writing class, you should definitely take it!!! One of my friends majored in Creative Writing. She wants to be an author some day. She'll probably do it too cuz she's pretty awesome!

I love the book. Someone read it aloud when I was little. My dad read it to my siblings, too. I think it's a staple of childrens' literature.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 592 comments My elementary school didn't offer GT courses, but my high school offers a few AP courses in history and chemistry. I had AP Euro History last year, and this year I have AP US History. I really like the classes, but the workload is evil.

my teacher is horrible.
Her way of explanation dosent make sense, she wont help you properly. then she shouts at you if you get a question wrong.
For example, yesterday she asked me a question, here is our dialogue:

Teacher: "Alright, now could you please tell me what we do next step?"

Me: "Ummm....Sorry, im not sure."

T: What are you not sure about?

M: "what we do after we have found the prime number and cubed it.

T; YOu dont know what to do next? WHY? YOU SHOULD PAY ATTENTION! LISTEN!

M: I was listening, i just dont understand

T: NO YOU WERE NOT LISTENING. YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION!

M: I was. I just dont under stand

T: YOU WERE NOT PAYING ATTENTION

M: But i was!

T: NO YOU WERENT

M: I actually was

T: NO YOU WERENT

M: but i was!!!!

T: YOU CAN GO SIT OVER THERE. YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION, SAY IT! SAY YOU NEED TO LISTEN MORE!

M: I was listening

T: NO!

M: Okay, fine: i need to pay attention even tho....

T: SEE! YOU WERENT LSITENING! YOUR LUCLY I DONT FAIL YOU

m: BUT I WAS LISTENTING!!!!

T: oh my gawddddd NO!!!!!

Yup, thats our maths lesson.

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments *is shuddering over these teacher horror stories* I have a solution!! I'll open up my own little school and I'll teach ya'll ;-) And Booklover... I can teach you via webcam or something since you're across the globe in Australia! Haha! ;-) ;-)

I hated Math in high school too, but I had an AMAZING teacher. I had her for all four years. And then when I went to college, I realized I actually enjoyed math and I even tutored Algebra (cuz I LOVE Algebra!)

And Jillian is right, Calculus is scary. I took pre-calc my senior year of high school (cuz that's the only math for my grade that that awesome teacher taught that year and I needed to be in her class) and I probably only passed by the grace of my teacher cuz I was so lost the whole time.

And in response to Booklover's terrible encounter, can anyone tell me how a lady like that has a teaching job and I couldn't even get an interview for the many I applied for after graduating? ERG!

message 169: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments You're so right Jillian, it is completely about who you know when trying to get a job! (haha, I'm not that young either, I was about 2 years older than most college grads, but I get what you're saying!)

My 8th grade math teacher was like your principal...she knew math but she hadn't a clue how to teach it. I failed it and had to take summer school :-p

Aww, and thanks <3 My mom got mad at me after I told her I didn't want to teach anymore because she was all "Kids need a teacher like you! You understand kids and you advocate for them!" and blah blah blah, nice stuff but honestly, good teachers need to have their heart in it 1000000% and I know I wouldn't because all the extra work would get to me and I don't want to be one of those teachers who is all bitter. So, I'll just teach my preschoolers and have a fun time with that! Haha!

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments LOOOOOOOOOOOL Amelia!!!

message 171: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments Yeah...it's unfortunate but all that extra work and little pay eventually gets to some of them. I think I'd like to teach language classes. I want to go to grad school for linguistics. I LOVE learning languages and in high school I had the most amazing Spanish teacher. The class was really interactive and I learned a ton of stuff. My college Spanish teachers were all "here is your vocab lets learn it" and it wasn't very interesting so I didn't learn as much. I'd love to teach a language like my HS teacher, making it fun and interactive. So maybe one day I'll do that, but who knows when I'll ever get to grad school...my college debt is ginormous and I don't know if I want to make it even bigger

message 172: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments College is really great and fun and I'm glad I went. I hope you get to go someday! But I went a private school and paid my way through it myself so unfortunately I had to take out loans every year to pay for school. But I'm glad I got to go. I wish I would have just realized how much I love learning languages BEFORE my last year of school. Haha!

message 173: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments That sounds like a good plan! And you never know, anything can happen! Just keep trying... I know trying to get a book published is a really disheartening experience cuz of all the rejection one gets at first. But I bet you're a great writer. When you write comments on here, I always think you sound very smart and beyond your years, so I'm sure someday, you'll be a published author! Especially because you read all those helpful books too!

LOL amelia.
I havnt read the lighting thief yet, but i will ASAP!!!!!!! Its number 4-5 on my to read list.

Oh, it wasnt miss Dodds. But im sure it could have been.

Also, our maths teacher is an fu**ing b*tch. Since today. A nasty bi*ch.
Want a reason? here:

She told every one to shut up, and that if we spoke it was an automatic detention.
So she sits down to write in her book, and the whole class (exept my table) starts laughing and talking really loud.
Then my friend leans over and says: "Every bodys talkign! SO mcuh for detention"
I replied with "I know"
MY maths teacher looks up, sees me saying 2 words, compared with the rest of the classes full shouting, yells at the top of her voice so the other classes can also hear: JESSICA! YOU HAVE AN INSTANT DETENTION! WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT TALKING!!!!!!
And in my 9 years at school, i never once got a detention.
So im the only one, out of a whole class of talking kids to get picked on. No exaggeration. She hates me.

But then at the end of the lesson i had a long conversation with her.
She let me off after much discussion.

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments What exactly does a mod do?

message 182: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Well, it gives us the feel of power :)

No, there are other things, we organize the topics, moving them into correct folders, or putting them in ARCHIVES if they go inactive/have a double.
You'd be surprised how many topics we have had to rename/move/delete. There were a lot.
We also decide winners of CONTESTs if there is a tie, and delete spam posts.

It dosent sound like much, but there is a fair bit that has to be done. Not bucket loads, but a fair bit.

Man, your teacher needs a stern talking to with ME! I'd have a few things to say to her

message 192: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Goodreads was one of my first social media websites. So I actually use my real name. But on everything else, I've adopted a screen name, and I keep my name private.

I'd change my GR name to my screen name, but so many people know my name by now that it wouldn't really be worth it...

message 193: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments Yeah, I use my first name but never my last. Even my Facebook doesn't have my last name listed!!

message 194: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Jess...didn't you say that you go to a Catholic school?
This may sound stereotypical (and I'm sorry - my own cousins went to a Catholic school and this wasn't true for them)...but I hope your math teacher isn't a nun... :P

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 592 comments I used to make up names. There was one where I would change my "name" every few days. Then, I realized that it would be pretty tricky for someone to stalk me just by knowing that I live in MA and my name is Rachel...

Now, on every site I use except goodreads and facebook, I just use a username (usually "looney-lovegood" :D), and then, if I use the site enough and feel comfortable there, I give out my real first name.

At my school, we only have two nuns. One is very nice, but the other is probably legally insane.

Jillian-

"since "Christians" are the ones who believe that the Bible is truth and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Savior to all mankind)."

Hi guys, I'm not really active on this group but I found this discussion and I'd just like to clarify a few things. I am Mormon or LDS (whatever you would like to call it) ( : and so I can clarify some things you were not sure about. Mormons are Christians, we DO believe that Jesus christ is the son of God and he is the Savior. Please don't think I'm offended either, by what you said, I know people disagree with me but I know (the same way you guys know that your religions are true,) that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet and taught sound docterine. I love that you said you have a mormon friend, even though you disagree!
If you have any questions about "Mormonism" you can ask me too. We also believe that the bible applies to modern life. Intresting, I've never heard of a branch of christianity that does not believe the bible applies to modern life.

Amelia- Thanks for complimenting about our buildings, that made me smile! I think you are reffering to our temples?

Again I would be glad to answer any questions, our beliefs are often not known correctly by most people. Sorry if you guys are off the topic already but I couldn't let the comment pass without correcting it. Being called not christians is something that happens often to us and lots of times unintentionally but needs correction all the same so thanks for listening!
