Kate | 8205 comments I own all the books, although not in one set, or anything. Our copy of the fourth is the British version, because we bought it in a Paris airport when it came out, we've got one hard cover and one paperback of the first and hardcovers of all the rest, but we've got two copies of the seventh because it came out while my brother was at camp; my sister and I weren't going to wait to read it until he came home, and my parents were trying to get him to read more, so if he wanted to read a book, they were going to promote it.

Half of them are falling apart......I wonder what that says about the number of times they've been read..... (hint:hundreds)

It didn't trigger me as much as it would have had I read it in 2009.

Way-chan (Aspiring Author) wrote: "Ooh! Tell me if Lord of the Flies is good. I've been thinking about reading it."

I've read Lord of the Flies a couple of times and my favourite reading of it was for a social psychology course. Reading it in general just doesn't do it for me.

message 1468: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Animal Farm is good so far. And I will let you know what I think of Lord of the Flies.

I HATED Red Riding Hood. Wait, no, hated isn't the right word...- strongly disliked. It was WAY to slow in the beginning for me to thoroughly enjoy and it was just poorly written. And I do realize that It was written only because Catherine Hardwicke (the director of Red Riding Hood) decided that the world was to complex to get across thoroughly in a movie and so decided that she wanted a novel- and asked her friend Sarah Blakely-Cartwright if she would write it (a creative writing major with no experience in the field. However, that doesn't make up for the fact that if i had just randomly picked it up and it hadn't been a borrowed book from a friend, i would've put it down because of lack of enticement. And then, you don't even get to read the end because it's basically written to get people to see the movie.

Rae, I read Animal Farm for fun a week ago, and loved it. I think its one of the best books Ive read so far this year.

Im reading Lord of the Flies for school, and whilst its well written and interesting, I just cant get into it!

message 1472: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I read Animal Farm for school last year and really liked it, although I think 1984 (which I read for fun) was better.

Lord of the Flies was one of this year's school books, and I agree with Jess. While I think he did an amazing job on it, it's a very good book in many ways, and William Golding is probably a genius, I didn't particularly like it.

Skulduggery Pleasant is definitely an awesome book series :) Its not great, but like Mortal Instruments, a lot of fun to read and loose yourself in the world that Landy creates.

message 1486: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Thanks guys, good to know. I have to finish Animal Farm by the end of Spring Break- which won't be a problem if I pick it up and read it instead of another just for fun book, but since I'm rereading Sarah Dessen....BTW, is anyone else excited for WHAT HAPPENED TO GOODBYE?

message 1487: by [deleted user] (new)

I've never actually read anything by Sarah Dessen. Any recommendations on which of her works I should pick up first?

Currently reading: 7 Billion Needles (volume 2) by Nobuaki Tadano

There's a Sarah Dessen topic, just about her books, if you look for it in the 'books' folder. You might find some recommendations there...

message 1489: by Baxter (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 383 comments I bought David Foster Wallace's new book, The Pale King. It's a posthumous release that is unfinished (and apparently REALLY unfinished at that). I gotta say, reading those first few pages just invigorated my love of words. Nobody else that I've read could craft such amazingly stunning sentences, and have each one brimming with life too. Like, after the first page, I realised that Wallace is my favorite author ever.

message 1490: by Andrea (last edited Apr 18, 2011 07:05PM) (new)

Andrea (wigglesquiggle) I am currently reading The Final Warning The Final Warning (Maximum Ride, #4) by James Patterson

message 1491: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished 7 Billion Needles volume 2 & Library Wars: Love and War volume 2; now I'm starting Sensual Phrase volume 8.

I've been having such bad brain fog lately that I've only been able to get through manga and graphic novels. :(

message 1492: by Kate (last edited Apr 19, 2011 06:47PM) (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen. It's really interesting for anyone who likes to run (or wants to like to run).

I'm supposed to read 30 pages of the Things They Carried by the end of break, so I brought both that and Diamond RUby, which I'm in the middle of, on my long weekend visiting my sister, but instead I stole my sister's copy of Born to Run and read about 200 pages. Oops. Oh well.

message 1493: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I'm reading Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick. It's REALLY good. You should all read it when it comes out in September :)

Lord of the Flies... I'm supposed to finish before I go back to schooll in 2 weeks, but honestly, I just want to throw it to the side and pick up another book :/

message 1496: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I know how you feel. If I hadn't had to read a certain section each night, there's no way I would have gotten through that book.

Ohh, I loved Lord of the Flies. So far it's my favorite book that's been required reading in my school.

message 1498: by Amna (new)

message 1499: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I really like his books, Amna. :)

I like Animal Farm as a book, but I'm really hating the farm right now. Ever since (view spoiler) It's definitely a metaphor of a communistic society- not to mention that some of the animals aren't very bright. And (view spoiler)
