Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments What did you think of it, Amelia?

message 1302: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) It was pretty cute. It got really slow for about 50 pages toward the end, but overall it was great. I'd recommend it :)

message 1303: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I was hoping it was good, it was one of those that looked so cute but I wasn't exactly sure and it could have been horrible. :)

It's not horrible in the least! Lindsey Leavitt's one of those authors who writes cute, fun stories that you don't have to worry about content from. I think you'd like it :D

message 1318: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments It's the sequel to AVPM- A Very Potter Musical.
They're parodies of Harry Potter.

message 1321: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Has anyone read the Thursday Next or Nursery Crime books by Jasper Fforde?

message 1322: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (meowchelle7) | 150 comments Right now I'm reading So Yesterday by Scott Westerfeld. It's okay, not great or anything.

message 1323: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments The Thursday Next series is about a sort-of-alternate world where science, including time travel, is way more advanced. Shortly into the first book, Thursday finds out that it's possible to travel in and out of books, and in the first one, The Eyre Affair actually travels into Jane Eyre. They're really funny, and the "science" is incredible.

The Nursery Crimes series is set in a place where nursery rhyme characters are real, and it's about Detective Jack Spratt and his assistant Mary Mary, whose job it is to deal with crimes related to nursery rhymes. Again, REALLY funny.

The funny thing is, at the end of the second Thursday Next book, she travels into one of the Nursery Crime books before it's published.

message 1324: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Jasper Fforde

Both series are really fun and make you think. Thursday Next is a little harder because its adult and the Nursery Crime series is YA, and the science gets complicated, but the science doesn't matter so you can skip it if you want.

He also wrote another YA book, Shades of Grey, which has nothing to do with the others. (It's in the future when everyone is colorblind-everyone can see white black and grey, and then some people can see one other color.) It's interesting.

message 1325: by Kate (last edited Mar 12, 2011 12:11PM) (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Me either (mind reading adult books). I don't really believe in reading at a specific level. I just figured it was nice to know.

Sci-fi books can be great, if they're not cliched. And whatever these may be, they're certainly not cliched. I really love them.

message 1326: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Oh hey I heard the Thursday Next series was really good!

message 1327: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments @ Haley-there are bad words in Thursday Next-she says s*** a fair amount of times. I've only read up to the second of that series, but there is some very clearly implied sex in the second, although it's not actually there. Nothing in the first though. The Nursery Crime series and Shades of Grey are YA, so there's no sex, and I don't believe there's cursing, but it's been a while, so I'm not sure.

Amelia, they really are. Intellectual, funny, thought-provoking, action, mystery, and page-turning.

message 1328: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (meowchelle7) | 150 comments The Nursery Crimes ones sounds so interesting. I will put that on my tbr list. And the Shades of Grey one sounds amazing as well. TBR. Thanks Kate :)

message 1329: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments You're welcome. I was really wondering if there were people to talk to about it, so I confess I had an ulterior motive.

and I think, in the Thursday Next books, the sexual content was in regards to the two married characters, if that makes a difference to some. I know it made a difference to me :D

message 1334: by Laura (new)

Laura Newcombe (laurakbooks) | 74 comments I've almost finished:
Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1) by Eoin Colfer
Then I'll start reading:
The Waves by Virginia Woolf

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 1115 comments Artemis Fowl is a great book.

message 1336: by Laura (new)

Laura Newcombe (laurakbooks) | 74 comments It is! Quite amusing too, which surprised me.

message 1337: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) I loved the first one, but I didn't continue the series. They were going to make a movie for awhile, but I don't know what happened to those plans.

PS - I think the fairies in ARTEMIS FOWL are the best fairies I've ever read. Eoin Colfer's my favorite fairy author!

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 1115 comments They didn't make a movie yet because the series isn't over.

message 1339: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) No, that's not usually a reason for not making a movie. Several series films were made before the last one.
I think I remember them saying that they wanted Freddie Highmore for Artemis, but he outgrew the part or something. I'll go look it up!

message 1340: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Okay! :) That's cool, I've started reading Artemis Fowl and i like them a lot. I wonder what the adaptation will be like....

message 1341: by Laura (new)

Laura Newcombe (laurakbooks) | 74 comments A movie? That's awesome. I just finished reading it last night and my first thought was, "This would make a really great movie."
Freddie Highmore is exactly how I pictured Artemis, too. He'd be perfect for the role!

Also, the fairies – Commander Root especially – were amazing. Such personalities!

message 1342: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Delirium was (in a word) AMAZING! It was unbelievable! Lauren Oliver is gifted. She has an amazing voice that shines through and makes her book(s) stick out from the crowd.
Delirium was full of everything that makes a book great. A dynamic plot, character development that was believable and well-written, cliff-hangers (surprises), and unexpected twists. It was fabulous.

I just added a poll to my blog asking everyone which book should be included in April's reading list and most everyone is voting for Delirium. Now, hearing that praise, I hope it wins! :D

You should keep going. They're all really good.

message 1346: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (turningpages) | 1 comments I love the book's cover, especially the face(:

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 1115 comments I think if they do make a movie the actor is probably going to be (go to videos and click music videos then go to Complex Atlantis. The dude who is singing is the hired actor for the tours, music videos, and so on.)

natalie | 5047 comments So. I'm reading the last Harry Potter, and I'm really close to becoming an official Pothead. It's hard, but I'm going to read this one slow. I want to read it really fast(and I could), but it'll just be... over. And I can't let that happen. I'm already on page 100... I know Imma cry when I finish it, just because it's done. Like I did Mockingjay.

Spoiler

Hedwig?! That was terrbile. And Mad-Eye.... :(

I kind of don't like series books anymore, and that one seems to go on forever. I think they're on like 6 now or something? Anyway, the first was the best. I love the Fairy Underworld :P
