Hey, Amelia. Would it be confusing to read EYES LIKE STARS before knowing the book characters from A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest, The Little Mermaid, etc? I mean, I know who Ariel is, but I haven't read the books.

Hey, Amelia. Woul..."
No. I haven't read a Shakespeare play in forever, but every character that makes an appearance has a quick sentence that says who they are, mostly.
Check these off to see if you know who they are:
- Hamlet
- Gertrude
- Polonius
- Ophelia
- Oberon
- Titania
- Ariel (NOT the little mermaid!)
- Petruchio
- Macbeth & Lady Macbeth
She really only uses the major Shakespearean characters in her story, but it's nothing a little trip to wikipedia wouldn't fix :D
Eyes Like Stars is just fantastic!

Ariel is not the Little Mermaid? Whoops. :P

No this is Ariel from The Tempest. Lisa Mantchev has definitely portrayed him as a male (I saw a college production of The Tempest with a female as Ariel)
Jillian -always aspiring- wrote: "A few days ago, I finished Brightly Woven -- which was reminded me a lot of books I had read and loved by Gail Carson Levine and Shannon Hale. It was that kind of book, and I loved ..."Brightly Woven is similar to books by Gail Carson Levine and Shannon? I'm gonna have to look into it then. :)
I just finished Brightly Woven and while I'm still trying to sort out my feelings about the book, I certainly didn't like it. Well it wasn't the worst I'd read, but I was majorly disappointed.
It just wasn't that good. There wasn't anything in particular, but her writing style is really amateurish. That sounds so mean, I know! But the fact that she is so young and a debut author, I guess I was expecting something along Christopher Paolini lines...and it just was a letdown. It was clean, and I did like the romance, which is always a plus, but there just wasn't anything special about it. The plot was underdeveloped, she doesn't do an adequate job of explaining plot points (like the magic-wizard stuff)
I'm sure that other people will like it, and so I wouldn't not recommend it. I just didnt like it.
Really? Most of the reviews I've seen have been 4-or-5 star... I feel a little better now--thanks!And you're absolutely right about North being kind of like Howl. I thought so too!
In my opinion, though (and I loved North) I hated Sydelle. She was so annoying and stupid. Like North would do something to protect her and she'd go "I can take care of myself because GIRLS RULE!" and then she'd do something totally stupid and golly gee would need North AFTER ALL. :D
Hahaha that's pretty much BW on a nutshell, Amelia-style :D
Might I suggest The Hourglass Door by Lisa Mangum or Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev?
hahahaha I put this on my ELS review, but so far I really like both of them! That's so weird - usually I favor one and totally hate the other. Oh and gee Shannon Hale sure knows how to make truly strong female protagonists, without any of that pretentiousness. You're right, Enna was great.

I got a laugh out of that!
lolz. Prince Caspian was my favorite movie out of the 2, then I reread the book- it ruined the movie for me. :) Now all I can think of when I watch it is what is different.

As for me, I am finally starting Fablehaven. :)"
Ooh I love those!! I can't wait to read the last one, it justcame out and I havn't been able to get it yet!
Now I'm reading Wildwood Dancing. Anyone read it before? It's AMAZING. Seriously, it's awesome!! *gushes*
I do! I used to read them alot more when I was younger (it seems to me there are more books in that genre for younger kids, but maybe that's just me). I don't read them much anymore just cause I think it's harder to find them when you are older that aren't too scary/creepy for me. Actually anyone have any suggestions that aren't creepy?
Haven't heard of it before but I will look at it. I just finished Call it Courage the other day. It was pretty good I guess. I'd give it like 3 1/2 stars.
Yeah, it was good just sort of odd. I felt like I could never really tell why he wanted to become brave, to be a better person, or just so everybody would stop making fun of him and his dad would be proud.
maximum ride the angel experiment
oh sorry, i was replying to the wrong page someone had been talking about what book they were currently reading
I just started reading the Trumpeter of Krakow. Iv'e just read the first two chapters and it has been great since the beginning! I just hope it stays that way cause it is reaaaally good. Anybody else read it? It is Historical Fiction in the 1400's I think.
ImAlwaysLiklyWise wrote: "Hey Lindsey, ever read "The Night Flyers"? It might be boring to you, because it's just talking about this girl and her birds missing. lol. But I loved the book."This one? (I haven't read it, but you made me curious)The Night Flyers
that does sound interesting =)
I just finished reading Maximum Ride: Schools out-Forever :)and will hopefully be getting the next one tomorrow
I just finished The Daughters by Joanna Philbin, Invisible Girl by Mary Hanlon Stone, and The Carrie Diaries! Highly Recommend them all.
Ahhh, don't worry Jillian!Anyway, so you're reading, PERCHANCE. How do you like it so far? I'm nearly half-way done
Oh is that what you meant when you said feelings being mixed? I really don't mind Nate that much, which is so WEIRD, because usually the whole I've-been-your-best-friend-but-I-secretly-love you thing is annoying to me. There's just something about Ariel that I don't quite trust, yet. But it's really good--I really hope you like it, but I bet you will :)
Well here's a heads up: most of the people in this group LIKE those books and do not consider them "weird," so I would consider revising your tone just a bit. This is the "What are you reading right now?" topic and everybody comes here to post about what they're reading. And let me caution you right now: I would seriously refrain from saying things like "Christians don't read those types of books." Myself and the other two mods are Christians, and so are many of the other members of this group, and we will not put up with statements like that. You've been warned.
