This isn't related to Valek, but was it intended for both Irys and Roze's names to be misspellings of flowers?

Yes - I was going to name Irys - Petal - but my editor and critique partners hated that name - they said it sounded to "Disney" I wanted most of the people who lived in Sitia to have "nature" names - like Fern, Nutty, Lily, Leif, Irys, Roze...I played with the spellings just because I can ;> After awhile - I ran out of the ones I liked.

Sye (shambamz) | 4 comments omggg i'm so glad that i finally read poison study!! i had it sitting on my shelf because i had thought it to be interesting but never got around to reading it... and BAM once i started i read straight for 2 days to finish it with minimal sleep... and the second book i finished in a day!! I'm on the third book now but i have to say that i'm getting really nervous... it's like i don't want it to end but at the same time i wanna know what happens with valek and yelena!! oh and another thing i loved about the second book was like i started liking Cahil but i loved that yelena only had eyes for one person and wasn't even phased with any of cahil's advances!!! I LOVED THAT ABOUT HER!! ahhh i love her and valek... as for the age difference... it didn't bother me at all... 19 and 33 might be a lot but you have to remember that she had been through so much already at that age and its like they were both ready for a long term relationship... i want them to get married already!!!

That is why Leif got that name. In Denmark it seems realy strange to have a character named Leif in an english book. In Denmark Leif is a quite normal name. How do you pronounce Leif in your books?

LOL Shamz - I'm very glad to hear you're enjoying the books! I hope Fire Study didn't disappoint!

Kathrine, in my baby book of names, Leif is listed as a Norwegian named that means, "Beloved" and his name doesn't have anything to do with nature - however I pronouce it leaf - like a tree's leaf - so I used it for him despite not really being a nature name. Does that help?

message 57: by Sye (new)

Sye (shambamz) | 4 comments Omg I loved it all!! I know it sounds pathetic but I would love to them have like more misunderstandings... I feel like that makes the story more realistic... That's why I absolutely loved fire study. I don't know why people didn't like it... It didn't make sense when people argued that kept saying "my love" over and over again I mean that was his nickname so be it... Like a union between the two and like arguments... I mean I loved the first one but I really enjoyed the second and third book as well!! You are such a great writer and I liked the happy ending!!

Yes, that pronunciation is better in a english book than the way we pronounce it in Denmark. Think I will say it like that next time i read the book.

I'm glad you enjoyed the last book. I hear you about the misunderstandings - however I don't like an overkill of them - as a reader I find too many to be very frustrating to me.

I haven't heard about the "my love" comment - I avoid reading any negative reviews as they derail my motivation and sap the joy I get from writing. I know I can't please everyone so I don't try. I'm very happy and grateful to hear from those who enjoy my books and I keep them in mind when I'm writing a new story :)

Salimah (salimasaur) | 3 comments Hi Maria! So glad you are so involved with this discussion! I was wondering which actor do you think would portray Valek best or has his best likeness? After finishing Poison Study I watched The Raven and World Without End and decided a very Poe-looking Cusak and a beared Ben Chaplin might work? :D I have an odd imagination, I know.

I like Ben Barnes with blue contact lenses :) I think there's a whole discussion about casting actors and actresses over at the Study Buddies Goodreads group - you can check it out and see if you agree with anyone :)

Alice (onceuponanalice) | 2 comments I just skimmed through this discussion and I wanted to say a prequel with the Commander and Valek as main characters would be very interesting to say the least! I find these two the most mysterious and complex characters and knowing more of their back story would be interesting.

Sarah (mollygr) | 13 comments I think that is a fantastic idea.

I will be flashing back to Valek's past in the new Study book which will include scenes with the Commander - the book will share POVs between Valek and Yelena, although Valek will have the lions share :)

Since my Study books were the best selling series for my publisher in the UK, I'm 99.99% certain the new books will be printed in the UK :)

I'm glad you're excited :) There is no connection to the Healer series - they are two different worlds completely unrelated...well, except they both have magic, swords, horses and really hot guys ;>

Ali - I try to keep my Goodreads page updated, but the best way to get news about my books, is to sign up for my Free email newsletter. I send it out to subscribers quarterly. It contains info about the books, my schedule and always something fun (like deleted scenes or a new short story or excerpts). You can sign up for the newsletter here: http://www.mariavsnyder.com/news.php (go all the way down to the bottom of the page)

I'm also on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/mvsfans and I have a blog - but that feeds into Goodreads when I actually write a blog...er....yeah....uh....it's been awhile....sigh.

I just thought it would be nice to share it since I found this and all my instruments have their names from books :)

message 76: by Izzy (new)

Izzy Arnold | 13 comments What's the new book gonna be called cos I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! Valek is my favourite character and it's gonna be cool to learn more about him. ALSO, are we gonna find out what the Commander decides to do about his mother's soul?!?! :D

message 77: by Maria (new)

Maria V. Snyder (maria_v_snyder) | 186 comments Dayna - how many instruments do you own? And what are they? I'm curious :) I have a cello and piano, but they don't have names, but I call my car Little Jewel ;)

Izzy - I don't have a title yet. The one I really loved, my editor didn't :( So I'll either have to fight for it or find another one. And, yes, by the end of the three new books, you'll find out the Commander's decision.

Samina | 2 comments WOW a study book with Valek's pov .... i cant wait to read it. Poison study is my absolute favourite i just love it. the only thing i missed was valek's pov ...... i wished that maybe you would rewrite it someday including Valek's pov (i know thats not possible ...... but still) so i guess the next best thing is a new book about Valek's past with valek/yelena pov :)

I only realised this after I'd read it for about the fifth time, but Dilana actually thinks Valek is gay! (not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just an odd thought for Valek's character)

Ever since you released the new book titles I can't get Batman's darkness song from the legomovie out of my head!

If you need any inspiration for a new title you'd listen to it! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3lKy5Z9HAaw

I think "the opposite of light study" would be a great title! XD
