Tya | 846 comments Valentine! That was his name! Jace's name is Jace Lightwood. Duh, Tya. I haven't read the books since they came out but I did just audio The City of Fallen Angels. I knew something about what I was writing was wrong.

For you audio book ppl, Molly Quinn is narrating again. Clare just announced it. She's the daughter in Castle.

message 207: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments All I care about is if Ed Westwick is narrating too! I drool over his voice.

message 208: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Ok. Who is Sebastian? I know that Johnathan Morgenstern has taken Sebastians name, but who was he? Also. Isn't Sebastian/Johnathan older than Clary and Jace and all of our familiar cast of characters? How did Valentine raise them both? I know that Jace was only with him for 10 years but where was Sebastian/Johnathan during that time? I really liked The City of Lost Souls, but I've discovered I really REALLY don't like Maya. Every single other character (including Sebastian/Johnathan) I love or love to hate or find interesting, except for her.

Okay, I'm going to read the fifth book in a week or so. Anyone remember what happened in book 4? I remember book 1 and bits of 3, but then it all gets hazy.

message 211: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments I am so excited about this movie! Heather, did you read the 5th book? The 4th was by far my least favorite, but I thought the 5th was amazing and made me love the series again.

No. I checked it out from the library and then stared at it for a few weeks. Never picked it up to read.

A few differences from what I remember. (It's been 4 years...) I had fun with it. The person I watched it had fun. There's the moment or two of cheesy, but it didn't seem to reach Twilight cheesy. I like Magnus' eyeliner. =)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I want to say the 29th. I don;t care to much for the new arc. I didn't start the last book that came out and stopped halfway through Clockwork Princess.

message 218: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Unsworth (rachelx1f618x1f48b) | 78 comments What's the clockwork princess about?

message 219: by Heather (new)

I really need to pick this series back up and see what's going on. My problem is, she planned on it being a trilogy so I felt like it all ended and then she added more once I was mentally done with the series.

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments Rachel wrote: "What's the clockwork princess about?"

Clockwork princess is the last book in Cassandra Clares Infernal Devices trilogy .I actually went to a signing for the first two books she was awesome.

Heather, I felt book 4 was kinda blah and this made me very nervous to continue, but I completely fell back in love with the series with book 5. So Happy I continued. I also LOVE the Infernal devices series, it was so so good and she completely tied the two series together. If you liked the first 3 TMI then I highly recommend the rest of the books. :)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
My biggest problem is that I didn't expect to have the book 4 so I kind of forgot a lot of details from the first 3 books I should have remembered. It made book 4 hard to follow since things didn't fit in my head.

message 224: by Tya (last edited Jun 10, 2014 09:34AM) (new)

Tya | 846 comments So. I'm listening to the audiobook (Jason Dohring! I will follow my VMars alumni anywhere :)but I would have gotten to this eventually anyway) but, am I supposed to know these people? Emma Carstairs and whoever? The only Carstairs that I remember is Jem from the Infernal Devices. So...yeah. I remember bubkus from this series (except that I like it...!)

But seriously. Who are these people?

message 225: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Unsworth (rachelx1f618x1f48b) | 78 comments I was like that when I started it but then I remembered aline and Helen and that's where Emma etc fit in.... I'm so gutted I've finished the book!

message 226: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Is Emma the main character in the spin off thats been talked about?

message 227: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Unsworth (rachelx1f618x1f48b) | 78 comments Have you finished this book yet? At the end of it it gives a sneak peak at a new series called the dark artifices and it's about the carstairs and blackthorns etc :) says it's coming out in the fall of 2015 xx

message 228: by Tya (last edited Jun 11, 2014 02:47PM) (new)

Tya | 846 comments No, I just started it. Is this particular portion of the story over? Jace and Clary and the New York Institute?

I feel like I'm being back door piloted. I just want to focus on the kids I've been reading about for the past 6 years!

message 229: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Unsworth (rachelx1f618x1f48b) | 78 comments I think the jace and clary story is over after this but... I think they're mentioned in the new books? :) xx

Tya, that's my problem with this series. I remember I had fun reading them, but can't for the life of me remember who anyone but the major characters are.

message 231: by Cindy (Squin) (new)

Cindy (Squin) | 120 comments I don't want to read too much here because I just got done with City of Glass. I really enjoyed it a lot, but I could predict pretty much every single thing that happened - it all just seemed so obvious to me! I'll for sure continue the series, but I just hope that there's something in there somewhere that can be a bit of a surprise to me!

Now I have to decide to read Clockwork Angel or City of Fallen Angels next. Any suggestions? I've read somewhere that it was intended to read them in release order, which after the 3rd MI means back and forth between the two series.

message 232: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Unsworth (rachelx1f618x1f48b) | 78 comments I read all mortal instruments and just started clockwork angel, I hadn't heard of the other series until I was about to read city of heavenly fire xx

message 233: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I read the books in the order they came out in. I really, really liked the Infernal Devices. The storyline is much tigher than the convoluted mess The Mortal Instruments is turning out to be. Probably because its just a trilogy and not however many books long this series is. You have the main series long arch(view spoiler) and then its over. This could be my memory speaking but I don't really think one has to do with the other excepting for the shadow hunter aspect. The one scene that I can really, really remember effecting both series is either the last scene of City of Lost Souls or the last Infernal Devices book...don't remember.

message 234: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments So, I have finally finished. And I remain with my original thought. I really, really, really felt like this entire book could have been about 1/3 shorter if they weren't trying to backdoor pilot the new spin off. The Emma/Julian plot didn't need to be there at all their pov could have very easily have been from any one of the other people in Idris that we had already met. Personally, I would have rather have had all of that space dedicated to Bro Zacharia. And I was actually kind of ticked off when I was reading it because about 100 pages in I realized I could skip everything Emma and not miss anything (their storyline is completely 100 percent separate from everything else happening in the book. (Because its a backdoor pilot. And backdoor pilots rarely have anything to do with the original. Or else it would just be the original. I feel like my annoyance is bleeding in) but the only time Zacharia/Tesswere mentioned at all was during that storyline. (view spoiler) rant. over. Nothin' to see here folks!

Also. I don't like Maia. I've never liked Maia. So, I skipped all of her scenes. I kind of thought the end was a bit of a cop-out. A part of me wants the ending to have been (view spoiler) But, I think I would have been just as annoyed (or something) with that ending as I am with this one. So. Its over! Yay! Oh and (view spoiler)

message 235: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments So I finally stopped putting off City of Lost Souls I decided to get it done as I want to finish at least one series that I have by Clare. I got spoiled for Clockwork Princess and I didn't like the way it ended. Lost interest in the cast of this series and the show also sucks. I decided to get the audiobook so I can try to get through it and I really despise almost all of the cast. except for Simon.

message 236: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments You didn't like the way the Infernal Devices ended? That was the one thing about that series that I loved. I loved the way she handled that love triangle.

I read City of Lost Souls when it first came out and I can honestly say that I haven't the foggiest of clues as to what the heck happened--and that was my opinion as I was reading it and when I finished it. By the end there it really seemed like she was just throwing crap in the book to make it reach a certain length even though nothing made sense at all. I don't know how she's milked yet another series out of this same premise! Not to mention all of the novellas and anthologies with other writers contributing to the MI world.

I read the Magnus Bane book (listened to it on audio) and I was so annoyed. I know that Magnus has lived a super long life and that he's obviously had a lot happen to him before he met Simon, but the blurbs on the book and the cover made it seem like there would be more Simon than there actually was. I found that I was skipping entire stories because I just did.not.care.

I think I'm partially annoyed with the books themselves and partially annoyed with the fandom. I think they know its bad but just don't want to admit it. I've watched and read many reviews and it's impossible that not one reviewer talks about any of the problems I noticed with the books. I think that's really strange. For example Jocelyn's whole attitude was so disgusting in this book. Clary is a selfish person who only cares about people as they matter to her it's all about what she wants and she doesn't care how it affects that person or others that they have to come into contact with. She's that one person who is over-confident in their abilities and thinks they're the smartest thing in the world and is the very opposite she is the one person that always goes into a situation half-cocked and gets everyone else killed for trying to save her stupid butt. And there is another random couple who I don't care enough about to remember their names. why are they in this stupid book?

A few months ago I got rid of all of my Vampire Academy books and the spin-offs and Clares books will soon follow.

message 238: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I have so many issues with this book and will finish it just so I can write an honest review and not one that's just trying to fit in and Kiss Clare's boots. I was a fan of the original trilogy as you can see by my photo so I'm not a hater or someone who doesn't "get it" though I'm sure some fans will make that type of comment.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I just noticed how many more series she's going to have and what not. I need to do a reread and catch up. I'm curious to what I'll think.

I'm a little worried that Clare even mentioned that she might break her own rules with the magic and stuff . . . I hate rule breakers. Don't make a setup if you can't stick to it.

I've never seen frozen but I don't need to as I have been brainwashed by Disney all the same Clare just needs to Let It Go. I'm willing to give other books a chance as well especially if there is more Simon the only character that is worth anything to me at least but I despise spoilers so I have to finish the TMI series first. I do feel a bit like an enabler. I would like to see her write in a new world however as long as she is still selling out the wazoo by writing more Shadowhunter stuff, why would she?

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I'm a fan of series that can keep going in the same world. I love that! Only if the writer can deliver. Like Tamora Pierce or Robin Hobb.

I am curious to read other worlds by her. I have her middle grade stuff, but haven't tried it yet.

Joeera | 12 comments Has anyone seen the tv show?

message 243: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Shadowhunters? First season was garbage they casted based on looks and not actual ability. The chick playing Clary did such a terrible job. But, I stuck with it because Harry Shum Jr. Harry Shum Jr could record himself clipping his toe nails and I would be like...mmmhmmm. You clip those toe nails Harry Shum Jr. But, this season is less horrible. I think the girl playing Clary took some acting lessons and she's considerably less awful than she was before.

message 244: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments i haven't caught up on it yet. I wanted to watch it when i was in Korea because I tend to learn the words better if I can see what it means in Korean as I watch something I'm familiar with but I didn't get around to it. First season was ass though. Also, Elena ( Vampire Diaries) and Clary....same character and I dislike them both with a passion :D.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I didn't keep going second season. I wanted too, but I quit after episode 2 or 3.
