I always start a bunch of books and then get distracted. I should know better, ha.

Manybooks And I go through binge reading. Over the holidays, I think I read about ten Mediaeval and Renaissance mysteries (all rereads, but so what).

message 5404: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't have the capacity to multi-task like that! I have to/want to read The Code of the Woosters for a group read this month, but I find it hard to switch to Jeeves in the middle of the suspense of the Count.

message 5405: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) I'm currently re-reading The Pawn by Steven James, which I loved, but, I just finished a powerfully good read in Declare by Tim Powers.

Declare just blew me away. Wonderful writing, exciting, deep and as much a novel of Historical Fiction as anything.

Oh, that sounds wonderful, Gundula. The only thing I don't like about Goodreads is I've done a lot less rereading since I've been active here. And rereads area wonderful pleasure!

Oh my goodness, what was I thinking? This is really good already (Well, what word does one use for a book that is about genocide? Not "good". It's gripping and impressive), but I know it's going to break my heart and then stomp all over the heart chunks. But with that said, it's pretty gripping and impressive.

Especially if I tell myself I don't have to write a review (even though I should have for this lot, but hey, I wanted to just enjoy myself).

message 5409: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Gundula, Reading for enjoyment. I think that's the point. I love your reviews. But only if you're in the mood to write them.

I have to remember that, otherwise it becomes like school. But you know how I write. When I do start to write a review, I cannot simply write a short review or one that I don't edit a million times. Just the way that I am.

I think it's going to be a great read, Tracey!

message 5415: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished two books in the last 12 hours: the first was Evenings With Cary Grant: Recollections in His Own Words and by Those Who Knew Him Best Evenings With Cary Grant Recollections in His Own Words and by Those Who Knew Him Best by Nancy Nelson which I really enjoyed. He seemed to naturally live the philosophy I'm trying to emulate so there was some dovetailing there too-- if I weren't already a huge fan, I would be now! The second was a play by Terence Rattigan. If you are unfamiliar with him, he wrote Separate Tables, which was made into a movie with an all-star cast in I think 1958, a truly moving, stellar film. The play I read was In Praise of Love by Terence Rattigan In Praise of Love and it annoyed me for the first 75 percent and then at the end, turned itself around so suddenly I wanted to weep. Still reading Once Upon a Time: Behind the Fairy Tale of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier and dear god is it ever depressing. I loved Grace Kelly and reading about the depth of her unhappiness is just painful.

message 5416: by [deleted user] (new)

I love Cary Grant movies! Thanks for the recommendation, Jennifer. :)

message 5417: by Ivan (new)

Ivan I'm reading Peter Pan and I'm loving it; also - for something completely different They Do It With Mirrors by Agatha Christie. Having fun with both.

I hope you can get a copy. I was fortunate to get a copy directly from my city's library system.

I am emotionally drained after finishing Running the Rift at about midnight last night. I need a light read. Must decide....

message 5422: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) You can always try "Bubba and the Dead Woman" by C.L. Belvill. It's probably funnier if you have lived in the USA. It's written in American Redneck, and the nuance may illude those not familiar with subtle subculture in the U.S. Having said that. I laughed my posterior off (and it's a murder mystery to boot).

I'm reading The Winds of Khalakovo by Bradley P. Beaulieu

message 5423: by Lisa (last edited Jan 17, 2012 01:02PM) (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Before bed I hope to start The Rope: An Anna Pigeon Novel, Nevada Barr's latest mystery book. I'm really excited. I'm not wild that it's a prequel though.

message 5425: by Krista (new)

Krista (findyourshimmy) | 112 comments I have such a hard time remembering which groups I've posted in regarding which books I'm reading. Bearing that disclaimer in mind, here's the list...

The following are books I count "in process-pause" as they are not done but I have set them aside for the time being:
-- Nightmares and Dreamscapes
-- Sweep: Volume 1 - Book of Shadows; The Coven; Blood Witch

Audiobooks
Recently Finished: Garden Spells
-- Outlander (listening sporadically in the mornings while I get ready for work)
-- The Gargoyle (listening any time I'm in my car)

Physical Books
Recently Finished: Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, And Black Women In America
-- Reality Bites Back: How Guilty Pleasure TV is Making Us Sexist, Shallow, and Socially Irresponsible

Kindle Books
Recently Finished: Fifty Shades of Grey, Gnome Wars - a short tale, Eye of the Beholder

I'm still trying to decide what my next Kindle read will be but the following are loaded and ready:
-- Flat-Out Love
-- Eternal Eden (which will lead me into the other books in the series)
-- Love Unscripted
-- And I would like to read the next two books in the 50 Shades of Grey series, but I need to get through at least the three listed here before purchasing. :o)

message 5427: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished The Count of Monte Cristo, and I miss it.

I'm reading How Reading Changed My Life, and I'll be starting The Code of the Woosters, my first full-length Wodehouse.

message 5428: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimmr) | 931 comments I'm also really missing The Count. I think I'll have to read The Three Musketeers fairly soon in order to get another dose of Dumas.

I've started listening to an audiobook of Anne of Green Gables and I'm about to start reading Laurie R King's Justice Hall.

Jeannette, I read all of Wodehouse when I was in high school. Such fun!

message 5429: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll give Wodehouse a shot. Right now I think I prefer watching Fry and Laurie's interpretation. :)

Darkpool | 222 comments Just starting The Midwife of Venice The Midwife of Venice by Roberta Rich so far so interesting. Nearly finished Wolf of the Plains (audiobook), and still really enjoying it, although it feels as if I've been listening to it forever. Next on audio will be Going Bovine, which is a group read and probably not something I would have chosen for myself.

Be sure and let me know what you think of it. There are a couple of later ones in the series that aren't quite as wonderful as the first 5 or 6, but they're all still great reads.

One of my favorite series! I love everything Laurie R. King has written - and I can't honestly say that about too many writers.

I really like the series too. I'm reading #6 at the moment (book:Justice Hall|274400]) and really enjoying it.

So, Lee, that makes Kathy, Tracey and me and I know Hayes is a fan too. I only started reading the series because of positive comments from Hayes and Tracey.
