SO, due to baby business I have been out of the lovely world of romance for a while. Any advice on what's new and wonderful in any of the following:

Would love any updates or recommendations! Thanks everyone! :D

Megan, did you read the first in this series? I have been eying it and wondering if anyone else read it. Is there another series you would compare it to?

message 3969: by ~Megan~ (new)

~Megan~ (megadee) | 1084 comments Mod
Yep I've read them both and I rated them both 5 stars! I'm not sure what author I'd compare her to, but they are really strong romantic suspense books with paranormal aspects. Her writing style reminds me a bit of Nora Roberts.

message 3970: by La La (new)

La La | 132 comments I just finished reading 3 of the 4 Elemental Assassin books and if it wasn't for the fact that the author repeats and recaps A LOT it would have been an awesome series. I really like the concept. I want to continue with the series just to see how Gin is going to kill Mab. Now I'm reading Blood Hunt (Sentinel Wars, #5) by Shannon K. Butcher and loving it so far.

Definitely. I just finished reading it at lunch and I could easily re-read this right now. Talk about a hot couple. My next read is

One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6) by Jeaniene Frost .

I didn't think that there were many vamps that could compare with Bones but I have to say Raphael is right up there in my book now.

❤️ Dorsey aka Wrath Lover Reviews ❤️ I am reading NH World books right now then I am going to read One Grave at A Time.....I did really like Raphael too, it looks like Raphael & Cyn are in the next book so gotta get it to get there HEA story!!

And Bone's is def great and I am soooo looking forward to Vlad's books. But I gotta say "Wrath" from BDB is still my favorite Vamp hands down!!!

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) Wrath is pretty hot too but I always favored Rhage and Rhevenge,

Vlad is another vamp dear to my heart as is Ian from the same series. Can't wait for both of them to have their stories told. :)

I know...I have the same problem.....do you know I have yet to read the last two books of the Night Huntress series? shhhh don't tell anyone. I tend to buy books and they sit while I move around from book to book.

With Raphael and Cyn...this series actually get's better as you read. Only 4 of 8 are out and the author promises more if the public want's them.

❤️ Dorsey aka Wrath Lover Reviews ❤️ Oh god, you just HAD to tell me they get better.......LOL. Crap!

Book number 2 has one of the most amazing scenes...where Raphael tells Cyn all about his life and the most wonderful declaration of love I think I ever read.

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) Katya - now I have to go out and get this right away. Hmmmmm....where to fit this one on the September challenges. I'm sure I can squeeze it in somewhere. Right after I finish book 6 of Night Huntress. So many hot vamps to salivate over and so little time.

message 3989: by La La (last edited Sep 09, 2011 08:49AM) (new)

La La | 132 comments I really didn't care for book three of the Vampires in America series. The heroine annoyed me. Even though I enjoyed book four I was a little dissappointed with it because the story was suppose to be about Sophia and her romance but it centered mostly around Cyn and Raphael. I didn't mind that because I love any story that features them, but it was a little misleading. I hope she doesn't do that to Duncan's book. He deserves a story centered solely on him with Cyn and Raphael only making the occasional appearance. I kind of felt like the author lost her way.

Katherine McCarthy (katmccarthy) | 8 comments i can back up Katya on this one! The series gets better and better. There is always lot of Cyn and Raphael in the other books. to me, its a real good thing because i love their relationship. I think the author does a good job at balancing out the love stories.

I get the impression that Raphael will be the main vamp and he seems to be guiding the others into their new positions. that's probably why he's such a big part in the other books. i think she's doing it on purpose.

I agree Kat-she is setting the stage for him to come out on top...with the alliances and agreements he is making with everyone. And I remember him telling Sophia..."Don't make the mistake of thinking you are my equal." As powerful as she is she knows Raphael is way over the top powerful. She had no choice but to ally with Raphael. And in that book they reminded everyone that Rajmund is hardly powerful enough to hold on to his territory....Neither one of these two would hold power without Raphael's support.

And I wonder (I have no idea actually-just guessing) if Duncan is being sent to Houston to challenge Anthony for control, whom everyone says is not really smart enough to remain in power. I think someone said that he has maintained power and control only because of luck not because of his intellect or strength. With Duncan, his number 1 guy, in place in Houston...that solidify another area under his thumb.

I understand what La La said about the books and not liking Cyn...but I think she needs to be this type of character. If she were to soft and subservient then Raphael would not have been attracted to her the way he is and probably steamrolled over her. He admires power and determination. He (Like JZB in the Fever books) does not want a soft spoken sweethearts. And we are reminded how the author writes scenes where Raphael is opposed to her going somewhere on her own but always relents and allows her to be free (as well as express her self the way she does). I forget what book where he says that he could make her stay put but that would be like putting a bird in a cage...a bird which is meant to fly and she would hate him for it. I loved the fight scenes with the Houston Vamps and Cyn...that was awesome...She can kick some ass!

As for Sophia and it being about Cyn & Raphael I like that....to me they are much more interesting a couple than Sophia & Collin. But I am sure we will see more of them and Raj & Sarah in the future too.

If you have not read these...give them a chance. It is such a good story and her writing style in the handling of the relationship is well done. Kat is right that there is a nice balance between romance and intrigue and action. I felt entertained while I read these.

I love these series too! Book 1,2,4 are mostly about Raphael and Cyn and they are my favorite. I personally hope this couple will remain the main focus of the series. They have great chemistry.
