La La | 132 comments I finally jumped in and started the Chicagoland Vampire series book 1 and I have to say, I'm not all that impressed. I feel like I'm reading a YA novel wrap in an Adult Paranormal coat. Everyone comes across as juvenile and unsure of themselves. For a 400 yr old vampire Ethan doesn't seem that commanding or compelling and Merit comes across as immature and annoyingly angsty. And seriously, head to toe leather. Yeah, I want authors to stop doing that. Plus I felt like a lot of the scenes were a little forced and rushed. Nothing seems to be taking a natural course. Oh yeah, and there is a mystery in the story that I don't really care whether or not it gets solved.

I'm almost done and will move on to book two crossing my fingers that it will get better.

Dark Desire was my favorite along with Dark Challange, Dark Melody & Dark Dream....but I couldn't finish Dark Slayer and a few other Carpathians. Sometimes you just get sick of hearing them pat themselves on the back over and over about how powerful they are. But the relationship between the two main characters in Dark Desire sizzles.

Nothing like a tortured Alpha Male.....And boy is Jacques tortured. The first book is the Prince and Raven...she saves that book. She is so funny and is such a, "get over yourself" type of gal with Mikhail. Oh and that Gregori keeps popping up in alot of books to heal people. He and the prince are like best buds and Jacques in Dark Desire is the princes' brother. They are all related or at least know each other. Gregori's own book is pretty good too...Dark Magic. Talk about domineering though!

message 3716: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments I will agree that Jacques is a one of my favorites in the Carpathians.

I agree with you about Ben. I thought Chase was joking, then when you realized he wasn't...his story will be very interesting!

I also won't be able to look at a twinkie the same again. lol

I also finally figured out what "shelves" meant on my Nook and put all the books I'm in the middle of reading on the shelf. Shows that I like to read but I don't like to read owners manuals. lololol

I'm taking the plunge into Kate Daniels' world at long last with Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews . It's a little slow so far, but I was expecting it, so I'll keep plugging away.

I would say to give this one a chance by reading the whole book. This book has a lot of world building in it which slows it down.

message 3734: by La La (new)

La La | 132 comments I don't understand why authors always have to put the world building in the 1st book. I think they should just build as they go along. We are pretty smart readers. I think we'll get it. Especially if the blurb tells us what to expect.

I'm going to continue Darcy.....there has to be some reason why everyone loves these books.

I agree La La.....I don't understand it either and it drives me NUTS!

message 3737: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) Just finished the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance....some very dangerous guys in there! Mircea, Pritkin, & Marco - Kinda lovin' them all. The series wasn't my favorite, but it still kept my interest. The last 2 books had a few action scenes that took a couple re-reads to fully understand what was happening. It was so much at one time I almost needed to make notes. Nice cliffhanger at the end of the last one - I hate cliffhangers, but this one doesn't really have me worried. Pritkin can take care of himself!

message 3738: by La La (new)

Laura Carson (laurarcarson) | 40 comments Reading Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews and I am addicted! Definatley becoming one of my favorite series. The 1st book is a little slow and detailed. By book #3 I was absolutley hooked. I have to fight to put them down so I get a few hours of sleep before the baby wakes up and I have to go to work. Definatley worth hanging in there!
