I'm with you there, Arch. When I hear audio books I keep thinking... who IS that person.

That happens to me a lot with movies, too. I never seem to be able to pin a face to a character the same way the casting department does.

A person voice has to match the characters I'm reading about and my voice always matches the characters. The wrong voice would ruin a book for me.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Again, Arch, I agree. I also don't like it when the cover image doesn't look like the character as they're depicted in the story.

I hate that about the covers too UniquelyMoi. That's why I rather the books don't have pictures of the hero and/or heroine.

I like to imagine how the hero and heroine would look to me.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I just read a book where the cover shows the guy with blond hair, but the books says it's black. I really, really had trouble getting past that.

I super hate that! And also, when they're just not attractive on the cover art. I have to admit, if I don't like the guy on the cover, I'm less likely to pick up the book.

Like Fabio.....who ever thought he was hot enough for a book cover? *wretch*

lol Fabio was on a lot of covers too.

I know, right.....if he is on the cover, I can't bring myself to read it. Hence why a lot of Johanna Lindsey books have gone unread by Megs.

I'm glad he wasn't put on Gone Too Far as Sam.

I never found Fabio attractive. Johanna Lindsey was my first and fave HR author growing up, so I had to erase Fabio's face from the cover models and draw my own. To be honest, I didn't like the beefcake bodies, either. So I changed those as well.

Dhestiny, I started making Power Point presentations with the actors I would cast in my favorite books. I like my choices better than what Hollywood would cast the roles as.

lol, Danielle how did you draw over Fabio's face? Did you mess your books up?

As for beef cake, do you mean the clay people?

I erased them out of my mental picture and drew in my own image of the characters for my mental cover.

Beefcake, meaning over-muscled type model. I don't go for the wrestling/American football build. I prefer the leaner build. Jason Statham/Christian Bale when he is buff is my ideal body build for a 'hot' guy.

message 2363: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I finished The Serpent Prince (Princes Trilogy, #3) by Elizabeth Hoyt and A Certain Justice (Adam Dalgliesh, #10) by P.D. James . I'm now reading The Rest Falls Away (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #1) by Colleen Gleason .

Oh okay. I think the clay people looks weird.

I don't like men that's too built either Danielle and that's why I never write my heroine's very built. The lean built is good enough for me.

ConstantReader76a | 26 comments I've had The Hunger Games for a few weeks, but wanted to finish the Fever series before starting another. Lately all the books I've read have been mediocre at best. Can it be that I've run out of really good bad boys?

Did you read Prelude to a Scandal? I've been wanting to read that one, but haven't really heard much feedback on it from people I trust LOL!

message 2372: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) I just finished Archangel's Consort. It was really good for the most part. As much as I love Raphael, I can't help but love Illium just a little bit more....so that leaves me conflicted. lol

I'm starting Hidden Currents later today and probably Water Bound tomorrow.

I just got my copy of Archangel's Consort and I can't wait to read it. The bad thing about centering a series around one couple is that when you have an interesting supporting cast people want to hear their story or at least see them get a story. I would love both Illium and the vampire to get their own story.

Just so you know, authors hate that, too. Sometimes the publisher is using stock art or, egads, reusing an old cover. The heroine in my second book had short hair, but the early version of the cover had her with long hair. I squawked, but they explained that with the sexy recline they're doing at the bottom, if she had short hair, she'd look like a guy. Since I don't write m/m, I went along with that, LOL.

In my current book, this heroine also has short hair. I tweaked the story so she had long hair in the beginning so it would be accurate.

And agree on if the guy or even the gal is unattractive on the cover. There's one out now where he looks like he has bags under his eyes. And don't get me started on Fabio--ick! He made romance a joke, which was very uncool to both those who read and write it.

Prepare yourself for Hidden Currents, Jennifer...the first part of that book is BRUTAL.

But Water Bound is excellent!

message 2377: by Bianca (new)

Bianca | 84 comments I finished Bond with Me I thought it was okay.... I kept getting lost in the story and had to re-read sections. But I really liked the world the author created and I liked the idea of this story. I'll read the next installment if it ever comes out.
Now I'm on to Trial by Fire (Firefighters of Station Five, #1) by Jo Davis

Holy cow, Brutal might not be strong enough a word. I'm halfway done and don't think I can take another minute unless something really really painful happens to Gratsos.

I was floored....I honestly had to skip some of the passages. It was so not what I was expecting from Jackson and Elle's story.

message 2383: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) It is intense. I'm ready to be done with it already. I might have to find something light and fluffy to read after this just to clear out the brain a little.

It was definitely my least favorite, but I wouldn't give up because the end is quite nice and ties up the rest of the series. It also sets up the next series a little bit.

This is on my TBR list and I think I'll read it once i've finished Bound By Honor: An Erotic Novel of Maid Marian which is my new guilty pleasure! I mean I am definetly a red blooded hetrosexual female, but some of those f/f scnes were just plain smoking! lol!

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) Today is Ranger day. :) I'm gonna re-read some Janet Evanovich and imagine I can smell some Bvlgari green tea.

message 2390: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) They're slightly repetitive and annoying at times. I love Ranger so I endure it. However, if #17 does not give me what I want then I'm done with her. There's only so many books you can go through where the female char is too 'scared' of someone that continually saves their life.
