Recently I picked up a book The Fire Rose and really enjoyed the mythology behind it. Mostly dealing with elementals and the people that can control or master these elements. Does anyone have any suggestions for romance with this same type of theme.

I haven't read many, unfortunately, but I have heard this one recommended highly:
Actually, I just remembered another one. It's a new release UF:
Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality is AWESOME - after many years, I am going to re-read the whole series. :)

The Fire Rose is the first book in a series by Mercedes Lackey. The next book is The Serpent's Shadow, i believe. The entire series is very good with lots of action and romance in each one.

Scot,
Aren't they incredible? I learned more mythology from Piers Anthony than anyone else, through that series.
The series is called Elemental Masters and the books are as follows:1) The Fire Rose
2) The Serpent's Shadow
3) The Gates of Sleep
4) Phoenix and Ashes
5) The Wizard of London
6) Reserved for the Cat
Her series Tales of the Five Hundred Kingdoms are really good too. No elementals, but lots of fairy tale/mythology. First book is The Fairy Godmother.
Tanya Huff has a series about elementals known as the Quartered Series. The books are:
1) Sing the Four Quarters
2) Fifth Quarter
3) No Quarter
4) The Quartered Sea
I have read none of those books, but now I want to, so thank you everyone for educating me! lolAlso, the True Blood series by Charlaine Harris is very good.
This is the first one.

Love that series. It got me reading paranormal romance....
I read Twilight before this series, but I didn't get hooked on it. This series is the best ever, I definitly got hooked on it, lol!
Mercedes Lackey's The Elemental Masters series is absolutely awesome. What they basically are are retellings of fairy tales with an elemental magic twist. The Fire Rose was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I won't ruin the others by telling you what the others are based on, part of the enjoyment I had reading them was trying to figure them out for myself.Anya Bast has written a PNR series which is based on witches who each have an elemental power, either earth, air, water, or fire. The first in the series is Witch Fire.
I agree that the Sookie Stackhouse (aka True Blood, aka Southern Vampire Mystery) series is fantastic, but it doesn't have anything to do with Elementals. Scot, I thought of another series for you, but it's more fantasy. It's a series by Laurie J. Marks called Elemental Logic. First book is Fire Logic.
The fourth one, Air Logic (go figure) is still listed as a work in progress on her website.
I can highly recommend Urusula Le Guinn as a writer of fantasy with the themes you mention. The Earthsea trilogy is fantastic.
Jane Yolen is also terrific. Her short stories are worth checking out first if you want to see if you like her style (which can be a little eclectic).

I really, really liked Spider's Bite it was a great read and very interesting. You might also try the Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine Ill Wind It's cool. Pun intended :P
Witch Fire by Anya Bast is an elementals series. I have not read them, but I have heard great things.
Unfortunately, I haven't heard of many myself. I am coming out with my own anthology this January but more or less made mine up, having never really read anything about them. These look like some great suggestions though.

I've heard a lot of Jennifer Estep's series and I have the first 2 books in the series. I look forward to starting them.
Well, I've read the first 2 of Estep's series and have the third one already pre-ordered. The Lackey ones are also really good. I'm a big Huff fan, so I won't even bother with telling you that I did/did not like her series (er, did I mention I went all stalker fan girl on her when she was at Balticon in May? Enough so that she'd send me with messages to her panels when she was going to be late and stuff. :oP And I now have autographed copies of ALL of her books.)
I really enjoyed Rachel Caine, Weather Warden Series. The series involves Djinn and humans who are able to manipulate natural elements, air, water, earth and fire. It has interesting twists in the books, I definitely recommend them and ran a crossed them by accident. Hopefully you enjoy them as well.
Rachel Caine, Weather Warden Series:
Ill Wind
Heat Stroke
Chill Factor
Windfall
Firestorm
Thin Air
Gale Force
Cape Storm
Total Eclipse
Christine Feehan has a new series in which the women can control the elements. There are two out:
and
.
A Hidden FireThis Same Earth
The Force of Wind
A Fall of Water
I just read this series by Elizabeth Hunter not long ago and I really enjoyed them! The author also came out with a spin off from this series, that has several of the characters in it. You might look for that as well!

I would recommend these as well! A Hidden Fire is actually free on Amazon or it was the last I checked which is how I got into the series. The author is really nice as well, if you follow her on twitter she generally responds to any tweet you tweet at her. I really enjoy her style of writing and the fact that her books don't cost me an arm and a leg.
I recommend the Darkest London series by Kristen Callihan.
is the first book in the series, and I believe it is on sale at Amazon right now. I loved the 2nd book
even better than the first. I am looking forward to the 3rd book
which will be released in February I think.
2nd the Anya Bast Elemental Witches Series, it's one of my favorites. I've also enjoyed what Christine Feehan has done so far with elementals.
If you don't mind YA, I really enjoyed Brigid Kemmerer Elemental Series. It is about four brothers and each of them can control a different element.

I've recommended these elsewhere, but they're just so great. In this universe, each person controls an "element": water, clouds, colors, fire, everything. Tragedy occurs, and the books start with the aftermath. So good -- world building, characters, dialogue, and even the snarky humor I need. I can't wait for the next one to come out, later this year.
