What fictional character would you like as your neighbor, or friend, or leading citizen of your community?

The idea for this thread came to me last night as I was reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I would be so honored if Atticus Finch were a living in my town.
Skeeter and Aibileen from The Help, Marion from Woman in White, and Dagny from Atlas Shrugged are just a few that immediately come to mind.
I will second Marian from Woman in White. She is such a strong, clever and dependable woman. With her as your friend/neighbor, you've got nothing to worry about.
This is such a good question. I need to give it some thought. I will be back. I do have to second Skeeter and Aibileen from The Help. Can I also pick people from Nonfiction works or is that breaking the rules?
LOL Mandy Sue - rules? I just thought fiction because you couldn't really meet them, but if you have a hankerin' for maybe a dead person who actually lived . . .
Oh so many! Atticus and the gang, Scarlett and Rhett (OK, actually, I'd rather BE Scarlett, but that's a different question), Yossarian, and the Ya-Yas. I'll start with those.
Claire and Jamie Fraser from the Outlander books would be awesome people to have in a community.Hmmmm... Also Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy from P&P, and the Waverley girls from Garden Spells...
I'm sure there's more but I can't think of anyone else...
Great question Elizabeth! First that came to mind are the women of The Secret Life of Bees. I would love to know those women. I'm going to give this more thought & see who else I come up with.
So many books, so many amazing characters. It's hard to choose. Here is one of my favorite quotes:"Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another's skin, another's voice, another's soul."
— Joyce Carol Oates
Definitely Isola and Elizabeth from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, amazing women! Who knew the science of reading head bumps could be so enlightening and entertaining!

Wonderful quote, Rose!
Pippi Longstocking and Harriet M. Welsch (Harriet the Spy) - for starters.
Also Skeeter, Aibileen, Minny and Mae Mobley from THE HELP.
And too many others to list!

BeBe Loudermilk from Mary Kay Andrew's books "Savannah Breeze" and "Savannah Blues" would be fun to have as a neighbor and a friend! And I agree with Aibeleen from "The Help"!
I would like to also meet Jaime and Claire. I would also like to meet Becky Bloomwood fromm Confessions of a Shopaholic
Neighbor: Katniss's mom! The Hunger GamesFriend: Lisbeth, cause I find her fascinating. And smart. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Leading citizen: Aaragon! The Return of the King
Good question
Oooh, Aragorn! Not sure I'd be able to keep my hands off him. But not the Viggo Mortensen version, I'm afraid. He doesn't do it for me, and he's not the way I pictured Aragorn all these years.Rhett Butler would be a fascinating friend. And I wouldn't mind hanging out with the protagonist of The Gargoyle. I liked his sense of humor.
When I was moving around and having to meet new friends, the characters in the books were able to accompany me. So I sorta wished some characters appeared in RL in some fashion (such as someone had those good qualities).Classmate: Anne from Anne of Green Gables.
Friends: All the babysitters from The Baby Sitter's Club - Kristy's Great Idea
Nowadays, I'd like to meet:
Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice
Anne & Cpt Wentworth from Persuasion
The girls from The Help and Guernsey Lit
Morgaine from The Mists of Avalon
I'd love to meet some of the sleuths I read about - Harry Bosch, Jesse Stone, Sunny Randall, Spenser, Irene Kelly, Charlotte McNally.
I'd love to know Jo March from Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. She was my inspiration to become a writer.
Carrie wrote: "I would love to know Bella from TWILIGHT so I can slap her !"Me too!! :-) Thanks for saying this Carrie.
I too would like to slap Bella!! And also Becky Bloomwood..But I'd love to have Atticus as a neighbor or friend as well... and Mme Precious Ramotswe from the No1. Ladies Detective Agency seried. Can't go wrong with her as a neighbor!
I agree with the Bella comment as her character is infuriating and not a good example for young girls.
Completely agree with you all on slapping Bella! Especially in the third book, I could barely get through it I disliked her so much.On a different note, I would love to meet the women from Julia's Chocolates! They would be such fun as neighbors!
Dru wrote: "Okay, having just read Saving Cece Honeycutt, I would have to say that I want to know Aunt Tootie - heck, I'd like to BE related to Aunt Tootie...."
She really is a sweetheart! :)

Dru wrote: "Okay, having just read Saving Cece Honeycutt, I would have to say that I want to know Aunt Tootie - heck, I'd like to BE related to Aunt Tootie...."I'd love to know Oletta (from Saving CeeCee...)!

Me too - I loved Oletta! She would be fun to see in a film

Aw, come on all you Bella slappers. :o)
Were none of you clumsy, stubborn, moody teenagers, feeling like you didn't fit in with your surroundings, who would have loved it to have a dreamy guy give you his undivided attention! LOL
Can't you cut the girl just a little slack? :o)
You can't all have been the most popular, straight-A, perfect looking, cheerleader girls in your school, now were you? LOL!

Sheila, that's exactly why I slogged thru all the Twilight series. I remember that teenaged angst and longing for the perfect guy. Who would have had to be totally fictional to satisfy the absolute craving for attention and validation I needed at that age. Oh, and I love wolves. :o)
I really liked Bella, I thought that all the men around her were infuriating and bad examples - Edward was too controlling and Jacob was too aggressive. She herself seemed like she needed a strong female to help her out and provide some much needed guidance, especially with the men in her life (her father laughs at her broken hand after she tells him she was fending off unwanted advances??? FOR SHAME). Why did she bother you?
In my fictional town, I'd have the Boatwright sisters for neighbors (The Secret Life of Bees), Georgia Nicolson for a best friend (Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson), and Lysistrata for mayor (Lysistrata)!
I would like to have a drink and talk with Lisbeth Salander from the Millennium trilogy. Beyond that, it is too hard to choose. I would like to meet Bella so I could politely tell her that one day she was going to wake up and realize that boys aren't everything and you shouldn't pin your identity to one.
