Megan Robinette | 4 comments Hi! My name is Megan. I'm just starting to use GR more often and I am so happy to find a NR group. After a pretty rough breakup 6 years ago, a friend game me the Sisters Island trilogy to cheer me up. I was hooked instantly, particularly the trilogies. I can't wait to talk to you all more about these books.

Leeya | 1 comments Hi, I'm new to GR and a new reader to Nora Roberts' books. I started reading two weeks ago and I have already read 4 books. I look forward to posting in the future.

Amar | 134 comments Hi all, I'm a complete Nora Roberts fan...have been a romance reader on/off for years but never really concentrated on NR books exclusively until this past year, am almost done reading alllllll her books, whew! I agree Dina, ever her 'bad' books are OK and worth a skim through.

message 54: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) HI Melody! I was heavy into Nora about two years ago, and I ready nothing but her books. It's been a while and I may be rusty on details. Which ones are your fav?

message 55: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (wstridgerunner) Hi Melody! Pretty much all of her stuff is good so any title you pick you probably can't go wrong. *g*

message 56: by Amar (new)

Amar | 134 comments Welcome aboard, Melody! Wish I was in your position and just starting out with Nora...sigh, all those great books to forward to! Happy Reading!

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I guess I might as well say hello since I posted in other threads already. I can't remember which Nora Roberts book(s) I've read but it hasn't been that many. I remember liking it so started looking for her other books. I picked up books for 50 cents each at the annual friends of the library book sale. Then when necessary bought harder to find titles from the used bookstore to fill out gaps in series. I counted the other day and I have 111 Nora Roberts books yet I probably have read less than 10. I never wanted to start a series til I had all the books in it. I kept collecting but not reading! lol I want to read Montana Sky soon so I can watch the DVD I found. And I'm going to read Table for Two soon for a reading group.

I loved Carolina Moon, and Northern Lights, Stacy. Have you read those?

message 60: by Amar (new)

Amar | 134 comments I loved Blue Smoke and Honest Illusions (is that the right title for the magicians storyline?)...highly recommend them!

Okay, i should check maybe ebay for Carolina Moon and i've heard alot about the Chesapeake bay series so i should try that one too.

message 65: by Emily (new)

Emily (imabrooks2) | 81 comments stacy those are both really good.

message 66: by Stacy (new)

Stacy | 41 comments What is the series with the MacGregors? I've heard alot about them as well? And thanks to everyone who took the time to give me some suggestions. I just saw that a local library is going to be having a sale may 1st and i told my husband i'm so there!

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) There is a list in another thread with all the MacGregor titles listed. The series doens't have a name that I know of other than the family name. You can read them in the order they were released, or in chronological order. Both are listed in the book thread. Wish I could remember the name of the thread for you but I forgot. Check the one with book lists.

I started a new thread for the MacGregors here that's got information.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) That'll make it easier to find. Thanks Isis.

message 70: by Stacy (new)

Stacy | 41 comments Thanks Isis! Now i can look for the books that everyone was talking about before.

message 71: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) Hi all! I know a few of you from other groups, but thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm an avid romance reader and occasionally indulge in chick lit, but I have never read a Nora Roberts book until now. (Currently reading Vision in White and loving the writing style and dialogue.) For me, Robert's has so many books out that it is overwhelming. I've never known quite where to start. But I enjoyed reading her bio and learning that she started off as a legal secretary (my profession!) before she started writing for fun. That's encouraging.

I'm open to recommendations. I've heard good things about Carolina Moon and I enjoyed the Robert's movie Tribute. =)

message 72: by Sherry (last edited May 07, 2009 09:16AM) (new)

Sherry (wstridgerunner) Carolina Moon, Carnal Innocence or maybe Sacred Sins or several others would all be good places to start for her suspense style. You know your going to have as many suggestions as there are Nora Roberts fans LOL, which I think is great! :)

message 73: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) Thanks SherryD. I've been told that Visions in White is old school Nora Roberts. That back in the day she wrote straight contemporary romance. Do you know of others that are similar to this style?

message 74: by Sherry (last edited May 07, 2009 09:30AM) (new)

Sherry (wstridgerunner) The Dream Trilogy would be a good place and you MUST read the Macgregors, for a listing of all her books try fantastic fiction (one of my fav sites)

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/r/n...

Her Irish Hearts, Calhoun Women and my goodness, there are so many *huge grin* when you click on the book, it usually shows a short blurb on that title so you can see which are her romance and which suspense.

message 75: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) Thanks for the recommendations! Does anyone know where I can read excerpts from Robert's books? I found complete lists on her website, but no excerpts. Hmmmmm ...

message 76: by jenjn79 (new)

jenjn79 | 290 comments Mod
Hi, Tammy! Welcome to the group!

I've posted a few different book lists here in the group in the Book Lists folder. The master list has them separated by type and series. So that might help.'

For excerpts...I don't know any place offhand. You might find previews at Amazon (where they have that "Look Inside" thing) and you could read the first few pages.

Ones that are more straight-up romance...the Chesapeake Bay books. Those are fantastic. And the Dream trilogy. Love that one too. THen there's her older Silhouette stuff. I love the MacGregors.

So much to choose from...

message 77: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) I've already started browing your Nora Robert's shelf, Isis. =)

I just checked my local library online and was shocked to see that they carry Nora Robert's Dream trilogy. This is a Very Big Deal! They do not carry romance in our small library and they have limited chick lit titles. Lucky me!

message 78: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) *GASP*! Your library doesn't carry romance books?!

message 79: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) LOL! No, but we have multiple copies of the Book of Mormon and a big religious section, if that tells you anything. Local residents are pushing for our library to be turned over to the county so we will have better choices in literature, more funding, etc.

Once I asked our head librarian if they carried any Lisa Kleypas or Lora Leigh. She looked down at me over her glasses (seriously!) and gave me the stink eye. She's sort of a literary snob. I was psyched when they finally gave in and ordered the Stephanie Plum series. =)

*sticking tougue out and making face* I'm a librarian and it's those type of librarians that give us a bad name!!! Not all of us are like that Tammy :)

The mention of Lora Leigh must have given her a stroke. yikes!

message 82: by Stamatia (new)

Stamatia | 1 comments Hello there everybody. Just stopped by to say hi! I love Ms Roberts writing myself and think this group is a really good idea

message 83: by Teryl (new)

Teryl Going back and reading all of Nora's backlist was so much fun. I used to keep the list in my purse, all alphabetized and everything, and check off the books as I found them. It was the best to be in the clearance section at Half Price Books and score a bunch of Nora's that I didn't have.

message 84: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) Good to know Sherry D. =) I may have problems with our librarian, but I love our children's librarian. She is obsessed with Twilight - I've never seen anything like it - so I jokingly call her our Twihard Librarian. (She get's a kick out of it.) Nice to know that there are real live (human) librarians out there!

LOL Kim! Sometimes I can't help being a smart ass I suppose.

message 85: by Emily (new)

Emily (imabrooks2) | 81 comments Tammy,
If you look on nora roberts home page she has a list of all her books, but it does not give descriptions of what the story is about. I have read a 20-30 Nora titles and i can tell you so far you can't go wrong. sometimes it gets a little odd but the stories are phenominal. My favorite series (as I have mentioned before) is the chesapeake bay saga and my favorite single so far would have to be three fates. Although blue smoke and tribute were awsome too.

message 86: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 5 comments One of the things that make most all of NR books good (IMHO) is the strong family threads in the books.

message 87: by jenjn79 (new)

For anyone looking for descriptions of Nora books, there are a lot here in the group in the various book threads. But there are also descriptions on the book pages here on GR (at least for the main U.S. release). If you click the links on the Master Book List, it'll take you to the book pages which will have all the info filled out (characters, description, series, original publication date, etc)...or at least they should as long as no one messes with all the work I did ;)

message 88: by Jess (new)

Jess Hi everyone! I sort of bypassed this thread by accident lol. I'm new to the group and I'm getting steadily more acquainted with Roberts.

I blame my bf's mom lol. She lent me Remember When which I was sort of leery to read. But did so anyway, and then found that I loved Eve Dallas. So I began with book 1, and pretty much read them back to back for like a month straight lol.

Then I was hearing so much about Robert's Sign of Seven Trilogy, that I gave it a shot. Loved it, and now I've been reading her books like an addict waiting for my next fix. It's really quite terrible lol.

My favorite's so far... Tribute, Montana Sky, Chesapeake Bay Saga, Irish Heart series and her Gallagher's of Ardmore trilogy. I guess I have a thing for small towns, ranchers, Southerners and Irishman lol. ;)

That's how it was with me, Jess. I read Dance Upon the Air and loved it so I started reading other books of her and it snowballed from there.

Welcome to the group! (I might have already said that in another thread...)

message 90: by SoBeA (new)

SoBeA (sobe1982) | 8 comments Hi :)
My name's Sobia and I've only been reading Nora for a little less then a year but already she's one of my favorites...

I started with Key of Light one day when I was bored, never thinking I'd actually like something by Nora Roberts, but I was just blown away by how good it was... and thus a junkie was born. I got a box of her older books (one of those storage boxes) and another crate full of her JD Robb Titles that I'm slowly making my way through... trying to make them last as long as possible...

At the moment, My favorites are Public Secrets, Northern Lights and Tribute and I am trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to be patient while I wait for the Next Bride Quartet and Black Hills to be released. :)

message 93: by Tessa (new)

Tessa Hi everyone, my name is Tessa. I'm new to Goodreads but I have been reading Nora Roberts books for a while. I have to say my favorite book is still the first one I read, Jewels of the Sun. That's where I fell in love with Nora's writing, and went head of over heels for Aidan Gallagher. Although that is my favorite I have enjoyed all of her books that I have read, and I'm really excited to have found this group.
