You know, my very favorite series (The Wheel of Time) has the most horrendous covers. I never would have picked them up if I didn't read the first one first.

Those are some ugly covers and the best part is that there are so many books that have that same basic style which doesn't appeal to me at all
The same guy has done the covers since the first book, which was 1990 and covers have changed drastically. They have redone the covers for the new ebooks and I am praying someday that they will print these in a collectors box set, I would buy them in a heartbeat. They are not the best covers ever, but they are much improved. They release one every month, this was the last one:
I finished reading Street Magic and listening to Melting Stones. I enjoyed both books, but the brat factor was a little too much. I understand why Evvy found it difficult to empathize with the people around her. It's just the bratty behavior gets old after a while. Not so much brattiness with Street Magic, a lot with Melting Stones.
I also finished listening to Early to Death, Early to Rise. I liked it. The world of Madison Avery is becoming well settled!
I just finished "Perks of being a Wallflower". I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a coming-of-age story in a unique voice, somewhat a cross between Catcher in the Rye and Almost Famous.

I listened to Early to Death, Early to Rise via audiobook. Many books that I can't read, I can listen to. It is a easy read (listen) series with a very simple story line. Very YA. I like it, though. Nakita is my favorite character. There is a lot Harrison can do with her.
I do know what you mean about be able to listen to stuff rather than read it. I have encountered that as well.
I just finished Soulless by Gail Carriger and it was fabulous! highly recommend it to... EVERYONE! :)
I read your review Darcy. The book sounds interesting. I think I'll give it a try! Now I have to decided on audio or hardcover.
Paula wrote: "I read your review Darcy. The book sounds interesting. I think I'll give it a try! Now I have to decided on audio or hardcover."Either way it will be a fast read for you Paula. I think the book is just over 300 pages with large print and spacing. Let me know what you think.
I also just finished The Mark by Jen Nadol and really liked it. It starts out slowly, but soon has you thinking deeply.
I just finished another one that I would highly recommend to everyone. Jen is the one that first turned me on to it, so thanks Jen!!
Unwind by Neal Shusterman
It was okay. There's a lot of parts where action starts to come into play and then she by passes it in some way. I think that she's trying to leave it to explain later, but it's kind of a let down. It has potential to become a better series though. I'll let you know after book 2.

Unwind by [author:Neal..."
You're welcome Darcy! I'm glad you liked it as much as I did. It really is a great book!
I finished listening to The Wish List. I liked the story, but wasn't thrilled with the narrator. Some of his voices made me want to pull the earphones off. He did Meg and the old man's voices well. I think I will buy the book. The Wish List is a sad, sweet story.

Unwind b..."I loved that book! It is really quite disturbing at times, but it gets you thinking.
Carrie wrote: "I loved that book! It is really quite disturbing at times, but it gets you thinking. "That is what makes the books so good!!
Both of them were amazing, but something about Rhage just makes me love him and his story slightly more. I loved how he deals with the beast as the story goes on, and how Mary reacts to it. =D

Loved it! You all should read it."
I saw that you were reading this one. I loved the first one and have been looking forward to this one, but my library is soooo slow.
I just love that she has 3 elemental books coming out this year. I hate that I have to wait until October for the next one, but I'm glad they aren't a year apart.
I know what you mean. It is almost like finding a new to you author that has a bunch of books out already.
I just finished the following: The Gospel according to the Beatles, Chanel:Her Style & Her Life, The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time. I enjoyed all of them.
Heather wrote: "Hmm... never read a Nora Roberts book for some reason. I'll look into it. I didn't think much out there was longer than Anita Blake. Have any of you tried Terry Pratchett? I had a teacher obsessed..."
Try the one he did with Neil Gaiman, GOOD OMENS.
I heard Good Omens was a pretty good book :) I want to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
I finished Enna Burning and liked it. The burning of living entities was freaky, but a well written book.
was Lover Eternal the second one? with the dragon guy? man I might need to read them again I can't think of any of their names
Yes'm, it was Rhage's and Mary's story. I just re-read most of it today (besides the lesser parts), even though I should've been reading Lover Enshrined. O.o
That was a good one...of course I've only read it and the first on so that wouldn't make me a good judge
Jasmine (ReadSleepRead) wrote: "Yes'm, it was Rhage's and Mary's story. I just re-read most of it today (besides the lesser parts), even though I should've been reading Lover Enshrined. O.o"Lover Enshrined is the worst one for me. I just don't like Phury and don't even get me started on Cormia. lol
uhh ohh, lol. I find myself liking Cormia more as the story goes on. I really enjoyed the part when she goes outside and lets go. I also really like what's evolving between Xhex and John. About Phury: I can kind of see why you might not like him, but personally I love him as a character and my heart breakes for what he's gone through during his life. I really like that we find out a lot more about his character in Lover Enshrined. In the other books I just thought of him as this random brother that I was indifferent to; I never really understood the struggles he had to go through.
I'm currently at the part about the guy in the mountains and it's a bit boring, but I'm hoping he'll get more interesting. All I know is that he wants to die, but doesn't want to commit suicide.
J.R. Ward says she hates him. Which I think is why we feel it when we read about him. I kind of wanted to smack her after listening to her in an interview.
That's weird. I've never heard an author say they hate a character. What was she thinking saying that? Whatever, I still love him. :)
She just instilled character traits that she didn't like in him. I found it very off putting listening to her descibe how she felt about some of her characters. She sounded like a pompous ... well, you know. (I'll say PA from here on out.) If I hadn't already loved her books I probably wouldn't have picked them up after hearing her speak. Although, maybe she's not always a PA. Maybe she just decided to be one that day. Or, it was edited so that she sounded like one. I'll keep reading despite being put off by the author. It's not like she was being a bigot and becoming racist or sexist. I just wish authors cared about their characters. Even the bad ones, but especially since these are suppose to be the good guys.
Woah, I guess I'm never going to youtube interviews with J. R. Ward. =O I've never heard of an author say they hate a certain character and then list the reasons why. . . that certainly is a good way to decrease book sales.
I finished reading The Supernaturalist. I liked it, but the universe was depressing. I liked the supernaturalists (spotters), Cosmos, Ditto, Mona, and Stefan, but this world was controlled by a few big corporations that would do anything for power and money while the majority of people lived poor, pitiful lives. The ending was very unsatisfying. I want a sequel to this book where orphans aren't used in medical and commercial testing and the little blue fellers aren't stuck in gel.
I finished
and I liked it a lot more than the second one. I still found it as easy to figure out as the rest of the series though. I know it's YA, but that doesn't mean it has to be so obvious as to what is going on. I like to be shocked sometimes. I also finished rereading
and although this book used to be my favourite, I am not sure why now. I still love it, and I think it's because Sirius is my favourite character and all the mystery at the Ministry of Magic, but I found it to really drag this time. I guess that's why a lot of people don't like it as much.
Carrie- I just finished reading HP as well & it dragged for me too. I felt the beginning could've been a lot shorter. I'm glad to be able to move on to the last 2 books though!
I think Deathly Hallows is the best in the series. Part of it was that it was over, and Potter was such a long journey for me.
