I finished reading Magic Steps, The Battle of the Labyrinth, The Last Olympian, and Magic Bleeds. I liked them all in varying degrees. Magic Bleeds was my favorite.
Ok, I have been reading Bitten and I'm almost halfway through, bt it's just not keeping my interest. Everybody always says how great the series is, but so far this book is really dragging for me. :( Does it pick up in the second half? I really want to finish it so I can read Magic Bleeds!

Without knowing where you are (and not wanting to spoil things) it is hard to tell you where the change happens.
I don't know, Carrie. With anyone else I'd say keep reading. With you I don't know if you'll enjoy it more. I really love the relationships in the book. There will be a lot more action toward the end, but I don't know how you'll fell about the overall story if you're not hooked already. Where are you at right now?
***SPOILERS for Bitten***Well Clay and Nick already used Elena as bait to get the other wolf (I can't remember his name right now), and right now Elena just woke up after being with Clay and she was just told her "friend" called cause she never called him back before.
It just seems like a lot of talking. Or maybe something is just missing for me. I am pretty picky with UF/PNR books. I thought Mercy was ok, but I didn't love it like most people seem to.

Things do pick up once she is back at Stonehaven. I would say to keep reading.
I'd say keep reading because I liked it, but I don't think it's for you. I know you'll like Magic Bleeds more. Bitten is all relationship building in the beginning. Although, you are where it starts to turn a bit. I think you'd like the series better around book 3 or 4. I have a feeling you'll hate 2.
The Women of the Otherworld series was one of the first and few that can be classified as PR or UF. It's ambiguity is probably what you're not taking too. It's promising UF, but not delivering.

Thanks for the info Darcy and Heather. I'm not the type to just stop reading a book unless I really can't stand it, so I am going to try finish it. There are many series that I love where some of the books are more character and relationship driven, but 'm just not feeling the chemistry for some reason. I really want to since 1. Armstrong is a Canadian author and her series tend to take place in two of the areas I have lived in - and 2. this series is so loved by a lot of my friends that I feel like I should like it.
When I am reading this, I feel like how I felt when I was reading
. I had to force myself to get through it, and although I thought the writing itself was great, I just didn't connect to the characters. I tend to go against the main stream for some of the more popular books. I must have a certain feeling while reading in order to care about the characters. I should care if one of the characters gets hurt or killed, but I just don't. And at almost 300 pages in, I should.
I just read Intertwined and was not impressed. I believe it's Showalters first dip into YA and I feel it was unsuccessful. It included pretty much every supernatural creature I could think of: witches, faeries, ghosts, werewolves, vampires, goblins, etc. It's like she couldn't decide which world she wanted to live in so she included everyone. It was also obvious that it was a set-up for a sequel. Just as the action started the book ended.
I finished reading The Sugar Queen and I liked it. The universe is along the lines of Garden Spells where subtle magic guides the actions of some characters. There are inanimate objects following a certain person around, trying to push her onto the correct path. I enjoy the feel of the universe and the story. I didn't like the mounds of regret and wasted opportunity. This put me in a mood.
So I finally finished Bitten yesterday. I ended up falling somewhere in between thinking it was ok and liking it. The story itself wasn't bad, but I think it felt drawn out because I didn't have a very good connection with the characters. I also finished
which was really good. It is a dystopian novel, so it has some similarities to the Hunger Games, but it is more of an emotional head trip than the heart-pounding action of the HG. Great book though, I gave it 4.5 stars.

I keep hearing good things about Unwind. I may have to move it up my list.
It's an adorable little romance novel. Very cheesy, but cute as can be. I look forward to my library finding book 2 so I can keep reading the series.

I really like Julie Kenner, but most of the time can't stand her cutesty books, but love the Deja demon series.
Cutesy gets old fast. You have to space them out. Too many cutesy books and you're ready to strangle someone.
Heather wrote: "Has anyone read anything by Devon Monk? And how were the books?"I tried her series, but couldn't get past the first 50 pages and gave them up. The heroine annoyed and bored me. I did like the potential of the Z character, but not enough to keep reading.
- LOVED LOVED LOVED! I'm one book two right now. :)
- This was a fun, quick read. :)
- ehh. A fine way to pass time. . .only read it because it was free and looked okayish.
- If you read
, this is a must-read! It talks about everything that occurs between
and
Knew you'd love it, Jasmine. It takes 20 pages and you're a gonner and are sucked into the world.
You can get it for free online, or download the free B&N e-reader on your laptop and read it for free on that. =] (if you don't have an e-reader.)Oh my Bones <3 That man is beyond epicly amazing. :)
and no problem! The only reason I knew about Winter's Passage is because of someone else on goodreads, lol.
I just finished Spells and just thought it was ok. She didn't choose the guy I would've which disappointed me and the cliffhanger ending was a bit annoying, but it's a series so it's to be expected.
I finally finished White Night. It took me 6 weeks, but it's done! I, of course, liked it. Jim Butcher is getting a bit too verbose, but many serial authors get that way the longer a series exist. The fight scenes went on forever, in my opinion. A friend of mine disagrees. ************** Spoiler *************************
I think that the lust for power scene with Lara was a bit ridiculous and only a man would come up with something like that!

I have to read #8 before I get to this one and I have set both #8 & 9 up for a challenge starting in July, dang!
Darcy, when you get to 'White Night', please let me know if you agree. I mentioned my thouhgts to a male friend and he just laughed.
Paula wrote: "Darcy, when you get to 'White Night', please let me know if you agree. I mentioned my thouhgts to a male friend and he just laughed."I sure will Paula.
I checked out book 1 from his series and never did convince myself to pick it up. I'm not sure why.
Heather wrote: "I checked out book 1 from his series and never did convince myself to pick it up. I'm not sure why."I was the same way, then people told me to listen to the audio version as "Spike" from Buffy reads the books, and honestly I could listen to him read the phone book. lol The first 3 are a little boring. I finally totally bought into the books in book #6 and now can't wait to get my hands on the next one.
^^I read the first 2 and was not impressed. I am not sure if I want to bother with the rest or not. I have had the audiobooks for years, and yes James voice is amazing, but even that bonus hasn't convinced me to pick up the 3rd. I finally got to pick up The Gardella Vampires again! Yay, I was missing my sexy Sebastian and snarky Max. I just started
, but I don't have a lot of reading time lately. :( I have been redesigning labels and working on the computer 12 hrs a day (of course I take 5 mins here and there to check goodreads, lol). These books are some of my favorite book covers. They are so beautiful.
I want the audiobooks to hear James talk to me all day but I can't afford them....:( I heard the series is good....hmm
Yes, the Dresden Files audiobooks are expensive. I'd like to hear James' voice also. I thought maybe I'd go to the library and see if they have the audiobook, but I have problems returning library items in time. Those fines are high!

Angela check you library, that is where I get most of my audio books
I get them from the library and then download them into itunes and return them the next day.
I haven't listened to anything yet, but I'm getting Stackhouse and Kate Daniels for if I ever want to listen to them.

I didn't know how checking out audiobooks worked. If I can download them then the library fine thing would not be an issue.
I did check my library they don't have the first one in the series. I'll have to read the first few then listen to James in the later books
- LOVE LOVE LOVED THEM! :) I think Destined for an Early Grave is my favorite out of all of them. I loved the ghost in it, and all the emotional stuff the reader goes through. I've been kind of spoiled with this series. . .I started reading the first one a little bit less than a week ago, and I've been flying through them. Now I have to actually wait for the next book. =/ I don't know how I'm going to do that. . .Thank god I have
and
to look forward to reading. :) The covers scare me. . .but I'm trying to not pay attention to them. Thank gosh I'm getting an ebook of them, so the odd covers won't distract me. =]
I feel the same way about the covers. I wish they'd do a better job on them. They're great books and I almost didn't pick them up because they looked like they were going to be crappy.
There was something about this book that made me not interested in it for the longest time. Darcy convinced me to read it for the story by Singh and I'm glad she did.
The Charlaine Harris story bored me to death. I generally don't like her short stories. The other 3 stories were a lot of fun.
I enjoyed the Singh story the best and now I want to read her series.
The Andrews book story gives you more time with Angela and Raphael which is a lot of fun.
I read the first Angels Guild after reading Hellhounds too! I still have to read the second, but I have it.
I don't go a lot by covers any more, or at least the bad ones becuase I have found some really good books with bad covers, but then the reverse it true too.
True Darcy. The problem is that sometimes something doesn't attract you in the store and you would have never looked twice to even read the back.
