One of my goal for 2010 is to get up to date on all of the series that I've started throughout the last year (and apparently this month - 9 books that are first in their series in January ACK!)

I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that are the same. Series are addictive, but in a good way right??

This is kind of like a challenge - but really more of a place for encouragement from others of us who have a problem with series addiction.

So if you're up for the the battle of getting caught up in your series in 2010 (or even just making a dent) then feel free to list your series here in any format that works for you.

My list is horrible! I used to read a series from start to end before starting another. Then I joined Goodreads and I haven't been able to keep up since!

message 6: by ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (last edited Jan 30, 2010 02:30PM) (new)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Shannon, my list isn't much better. lol

In the Middle of the Series: Several of these series are older, out-of-print or hard to find. So my overall count may only include the ones I am able to get ahold of either in my own shelves or if the library has any.

Key: Series/Author/# owned/(# read/# in series available)

- Americana Series by Janet Dailey {Own all} (18/50)
- Pennsylvania Dutch Mysteries by Tamar Myers {Own first 14. Library has rest.} (12/17)
- Postcards from Europe (A really old Harlequin Presents series from 1993. I have 11 of the 15 books by different authors) (1/11)
- Tales from Grace Chapel Inn by various authors (Series has 32 books in it. Library has 18 books of the series, listing the others as OOP) (3/18)
- Star Trek - The Captain's Table (Series has 6 but I've only found used/bought 4. Library has none.) (1/4)
- Murder, She Wrote by Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain (Series has 33+ books in it but I own 15 and the library has an additonal 4.) (2/19)
- The XYZ Murders by Ellery Queen {Own all} (1/3)
- Buchanan-Renard Series by Julie Garwood (7) {Own all} (3/7)
- Montgomery & Taggert Clan Series by Julie Garwood (11/25) {Own all}
- US Marshal Series by Carla Neggars (6 plus novella) {Own all} (1/7)
- The Viking Series by Catherine Coulter {Own all} (1/4)
- Sadie Shapiro Series by by Robert Kimmel Smith {Own all as condensed books} (1/3)
- Great Chefs by Nora Roberts {Own all} (1/2)
- Nim's Stories by Wendy Orr {Own 1} (1/2)

Series Current in 2010: (Date of expected new release in series if known)

- Airhead by Meg Cabot (2) Apr 2010
- Aunt Dimity by Nancy Atherton (14) Feb 18, 2010
- James Potter by G. Norman Lippert (3)
- Edilean Series by Jude Deveraux (2)

Some of these, especially those by Jude Deveraux don't feel like a series. The Janet Dailey ones are just one book written for every US state. Technically a series but these all read as if they are stand-alones. Some of these I'm in a hurry to read (like the ones listed as having new releases this year and I'm current as of now) and others I could care less when I get to them. I have 60 other series I could start that I own most or all of.

I'm one of those anal people that have to continue a series in the same format I started it. I listened to the first one as an audiobook before I realized #2 wasn't out as an audio. #3 is... weird! If it doesn't get released soon I'll be reading it though!

YAY for getting caught up on the Rachel Morgan series Carolyn!! That is one of my favorite series. There is a growing number of people that will be reading the new release (CAN'T WAIT) shortly after it's released. Maybe you can join in.

Sandra (sandram1967) | 11 comments This is something I really need to do. I have read a lot of first's and need to finish many series. But I keep hearing of books people like and I keep getting them from the library. Geez I need to pace myself.

It is early in the year, so this challenge is a great idea!

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Tamar Myers' Magdalena Yoder Penn-Dutch series got so ridiculously silly if you are way behind with the books I'd just stop and save yourself the pain. I didn't read all of them, but I stopped about 2 books ago. Couldn't stand any more of Magdalena's "wailing".

message 15: by ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (last edited Feb 05, 2010 07:40AM) (new)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Melodie, I got fed up too but then I figured that was because I read about 10 books of the series in 2 weeks. I stopped at the beginning of Assault and Pepper because I just thought it was ridiculous for someone to kill the menonite preacher by purposely putting peanut butter that he's allergic to in their chili for the chili cookoff. I got a little disillusioned too when her fiance ran off after 7 or 8 books or something. The series definetly starts out better than it's ending. There are just so many ways you can have people off'd in a menonite/amish community and have it make sense. I think they started getting obsurd when in No Use Dying Over Spilled Milk her amish cousin was found dead floating nakid in a vat of milk on his farm.

message 16: by Rayna (last edited Feb 05, 2010 09:01AM) (new)

Rayna I am a series reader, i like that fact that i can follow the character development through the prgression of multiple books, like they become another friend of yours and you are following their life. however with a couple of series i have read i find that towards the end of the series, the story lines and character development start to wane and i start to get dissapointed.....this does not mean i stop the series.....no no no! My hopes are that the authors get back on track and their new book is a whopper to make up for the almost disaster the previous book was!

Currently i am in the followinng series....
Black Dagger Brotherhood - J. R. Ward
House of Night - Kristen & PC Cast
Vampire Academy - Richelle Mead
Mortal Insruments - Cassandra Clare
Vampire Diaries - LJ Smith
oh and a few im forgetting im sure!

with all these new ones you all are suggesting im feeling a little overwhelmed....but excited too!

Did you read the last Vampire Diaries book, Nightfall (The Vampire Diaries The Return, #1) by L.J. Smith ? It was an absolute train wreck. The writing was atrocious and it made very little sense. I'm going to read the next one, but only because it's supposed to be Damon's book.

message 18: by Rayna (new)

Rayna I have to agree, this book made me not want to watch the TV series....if i had to watch this story play out im sure i would have lost it. i too will read the next one. My favorite character in this book is Damon, im just praying it will be better than the last. i am truely pleased that the TV series doesnt follow so close to the book. Underground (Greywalker, #3) by Kat Richardson The Outlaw Demon Wails (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #6) by Kim Harrison Free Fall (Retrievers, #5) by Laura Anne Gilman Vicious Circle (Felix Castor, #2) by Mike Carey The Unnatural Inquirer (Nightside, #8) by Simon R. Welcome to the "challenge" Deborah! You're list isn't bad at all - especially considering you're on book #24 of the Discworld series. Goodness! That's a long series that I want to start but have felt a little intimidated by it's length.

I didn't realize that Wings to the Kingdom was part of a series. It's cover is similar to some of her other books - do they all go together??

message 50: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Thanks

Discworld is not the normal series where you have to start at the beginning and read every one in the exact order, there are stand-alone books and multiple series within the series. Start with the first one The Color of Magic (Discworld, #1) by Terry Pratchett , but if you don't like it (lots of people don't), just skip the Rincewind books. The City Watch books are great, but I love the Witches the best.

Yes the Eden Moore books are Four and Twenty Blackbirds by Cherie Priest Wings to the Kingdom by Cherie Priest Not Flesh Nor Feathers by Cherie Priest . I plan to finish these before DragonCon. I guess I should add the series numbers to those titles, since that is why I became a Goodreads librarian. Any other series titles that need fixing?
