MG I'm a bit apprehensive about this series as well. I tried to read the first chapter of City of Bones, but couldn't get into it for some reason. But, after reading all of the comments, I may just pick it up and give it another try. :)

Leigh (llogan24) hi, MG - yes, give it another try...i found it to be a very addicting series and couldn't devour it quick enough. :)

OMG! You actually looked it up? That cheating :P
jk
No, I know what you mean, I wouldn't have liked it if they were together and actually related, too weird.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments I just joined here and saw the posts about the Mortal Instruments books. I totally loved them and have read them all twice (which I almost never do). I am very glad I did not know how it would all end and I hate spoilers. I tend to like YA fantasy and these books are a favorite. (I am a YA grandmother).

Charlotte | 13 comments I know what you mean. I bought all the books and I read the first one and was grossed out by the fact that they are brother and sister. So I quit reading it. Right now I am reading the Love Stake books by Kerrelyn Sparks. they are good

Just wanted to give you a heads up that you really need to finish reading the series because some things that are in the first book are not entirely true, I don't want to say to much for people who haven't read the Mortal Instruments series but you should finish it!

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments I totally agree. The best advice to those who do not want to read past City of Bones is.....keep reading. And do not read spoilers. The climax to the story at the end of City of Glass is one of the most amazing I have ever read.

message 108: by Lora (new)

Lora Savchova (lorasavchova) | 313 comments I second that. And it's interesting to see the development of the characters and the story because a lot happens in the next books, especially in the last one. But this is one of my all-time favourite series so I'm not objective. I do urge everyone to read it, though :D

Aaand I can't wait for City of Fallen Angels and Clockwork Angel to come out! Isn't it August already?!

Totally agree

Melyssa (melyferg) | 3 comments Completely and totally WORTH IT! I loved this series. There is a fourth one coming out and a prequel! So needless to say I'm not very COMPLETELY STOKED FOR THE REST OF THE BOOKS!!

Taylor Marsh (tall_tails) I loved these books! Absolutely great!!!

But did anyone else pick up on some poor plot work? I feel bad for admitting, especially becuase I can't remember any of the examples I had but I felt there were a few places that were left untied in all three books. Things that started off sounding like they were important and then never being mentioned again? I'll have to re-re-read them [ :) ] to have the examples but does anyone agree?

I felt that way too! I can't remember the parts though but the next time I read them I will put a note on that.

By the way I loved the books!!!!!!!!! They are among my favorites.

message 115: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Marsh (tall_tails) I know the story just really pulls you in :) there is just so much happening with all the characters. :)

I read the whole series in 3 days! I was glad I gave it another try. Thanks for the encouragement! I thought it was great!

Gemma | 34 comments When I read this series I was going through a bit of a spoiler phase, and this was the first one I'd read in ages where I genuinely didn't know how it was going to end :L
I was pretty confident it'd all work out in the end, and then I started to doubt myself, but I loved how I was always guessing.
Usually the whole incest thing would've made me wary, but I thought Cassandra Clare did it really well, though it was still a little weird. She wrote short stories before the Mortal Instruments book, and a lot of those included incest plots, which I find kind of strange, but sure... :L
I'm so excited about The Clockwork Angel; I read an excerpt on her website, and it looks amazing. A lot of people were annoyed that City of Fallen Angels looks like it's about Simon, but it's apparently split between Simon & Jace and Clary. I'm not sure how I feel about that; I loved the ending of City of Glass, and I'd hate Clare to give their relationship even more grief - they've been through enough crap to last a lifetime. Saying that, I also felt a little like there were a few things that were left unanswered; for example, why exactly can Simon go out in the day? It'll be interesting to see if anything else is answered.

Oh I felt horrible still wanting them to be together even though they were brother and sister, that we knew at the point.

yea!!! so glad you liked it!! it was nice, too, i think, to finally read a series that finished. all of the others i read are still ongoing. of course, it it bittersweet. i fall in love w/ these characters and don't want them to go away, but at the same time, i want them to have their HEA. i hope that Jace & Clary will have a strong presence in the future books.

message 120: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) mortal Instruments is not finished city of fallen angels comes out late summer of this year.

message 121: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (llogan24) oh, yeah - that's right! i did know that that's coming out next year, but at the time i finished City of Glass, MI was still just considered a trilogy. so i tend to think of it as finished althought CoFA is an extension from that. thanks for the reminder, though!! :)

message 122: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) hey no problem, yeah when i first read it, it was a trilogy too.

Simon can bare the sunlight because he drank shadowhunter's blood. But that doesn't work with every shadowhunter. It only worked with Jace because he had Angels' blood inside him, more than the average shadowhunter.
