The Veil of Gold i really like her stories of modern day people exposed to a fantasy world. There's always a good hit of romance too :-)
Bulfinch's Mythology thanks to Traveller for this one.
The Warded Man
Glory RoadA recommendation from a new Uru friend
The Age Of Misrule: World's End, Darkest Hour, Always Forever: "World's End", "Darkest Hour", "Always Forever"Had to buy this one used. Heard good things about the writer.

Elvet | 41 comments I started The Age Of Misrule: World's End, Darkest Hour, Always Forever: "World's End", "Darkest Hour", "Always Forever" and fell in love - I almost can't put it down. It's similar in feel to The Fionavar Tapestry- one of my fave books.
Age of Misrule is about how the world cycles between technology and magic. The time of technology is almost over and the magic is starting up. There are 5 modern day characters caught up in strange happenings in England. I love the references to old mythology - The Hunt, Arthur, Winter Queen, etc. I'm so impressed with his writing, that I've ordered another of his trilogies - The Dark Age (Devil in Green, Queen of Sinister, Hounds of Avalon) - and Jack of Ravens.
I also ordered Nyphron Rising and Magic Bites.
Also went to Chapters today and found Anathem in hardcover on sale, and The Book of Atrix Wolfe.

Wow! Sorry I disappeared for so long guys, I've had a lot going on and my laptop is stillll broken. Haven't had much time to spend posting on anything :(

Anywayyyyy.. I recently went to Sydney and stayed in a hotel located a block away from this lovely used book store. I purchased Black House by Peter Straub & Stephen King and All That Remains by Patricia Cornwell.

Then yesterday I put in an online order for City Infernal by Edward Lee and House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, the latter of which I've been dying to read for a long time now. I was holding out to get one of the fancy full-color editions (the book is apparently printed in a strange and unique fashion involving colorization of certain words) but they proved too hard to get so I finally broke down and purchased it. I figure if I come across a decently priced copy of the full-color version I can always buy that too =D

I've really been wanting to buy the spiritual sequel to a book I recently enjoyed, 'Oryx and Crake' by Margaret Atwood, titled 'The Year of the Flood', but I can't find a copy priced at an amount I'm comfortable spending (for the first time in my life I'm attempting to budget, and finding myself quite thrifty in the process). Keepin' my hawk eyes open =D

I do read quickly, but I think that you are mistaking all my updates for books that I've read. Every now and again I remember books I've read and put them on my lists. I am keeping track of the books I read this year (I have a separate Goodreads shelf for them - about 50 so far). I never timed myself, but I read GG Kay's Under Heaven in a day. I'd actually prefer to read slower because my retention is not very good. With good books, I try and slow myself down to savor the words, sometimes reading the same Chapter twice.
Gaming and books are my pastimes, and though I work full time, I have most evenings and weekends to myself. I go through phases where I game more and read less and vise versa; right now I'm reading more.

With regards to book purchases, I recently bought something I'd never thought I would - a limited edition book. I got The Blade Itself from the Subterranean Press:

The trilogy is a favorite of mine, and I kicked myself for not getting the limited Gardens of the Moon. So I took the plunge. I'm a little sheepish, but chuffed nonetheless :-)

Fnord, I'd be VERY interested to see what you think of Ender's Game. Check we have a thread for it here in the group.

Fnord | 3 comments I'll give my view of it as soon as I've read it, which probably will be after I've finished Contact & Gravity's rainbow.
