In a nutshell, it's categories by which the search engine finds books. If you scroll down the page of any particular book a little ways, you will see the listed "tags" for the book, with check boxes next to them. Amazon tallies the number of "checks" for each book in a particular category, then when someone searches for say "mystery" the books with the highest number of "checks" in that category get shown first. At least that is my understanding, someone please correct me if I've fouled it up : )
Hi, all! I didn't know GRs had a tagging discussion. I'd love some tags. Heck, I'd love some readers. And some reviews. (Heck, if we're going for wishes, I'd like three, please. ) My book is a fun, light women's fiction/romance/chick lit amalgamation called The Merry-Go-Round...however, you must own a Kindle in order to read it, or have a Kindle app on your PC of iPhone, iPad, etc.I promise to tag the authors in the thread!

Hi Sally.Tags are like categories which can be 'attached' to books on Amazon so that people can find books they might like by searching on a tag. For example, my book The Jeremy - Snaps of the Dragon has the tag 'coming of age' (among others). If you click the above link and scroll down the page you will come to the Tags Section where you can click the box next to a tag to 'agree' that it's a suitable tag for the book. However, clicking a box which has a checkmark in it will 'remove your agreement' from that tag. You can also add tags by typing in the text box underneath any tags which are already there.
Hmmm...not sure that's at all clear but if you check out the link you'll probably be able to figure out what I'm on about :D

Donna, looks like you have worked out tagging a while ago - you've got heaps (well done). Sally, if you read back through the thread you'll see you have to be logged in (and have purchased a book) in order to tag. Same rules apply for leaving a review.

I'd say check out my book, Warped & Wired, on Amazon, but I'm going to be re-publishing it soon (for a cheaper price). So, tag it if you can. Or you can wait for the new, cheaper, version.
Joshua, please go put some tags on your book so I can check them. I would type in some tags, but I haven't read your book. Seems to me that magic, fiction and futuristic fiction might work, but I don't want to tag your book with something that you don't agree with. Thanks!
