2010-02 - Adventure - What will you Read in February?

Ya - I was going to do the Count of Monte Cristo, but it has 1200 pages, so maybe not.

Leonie, just to warn you, I haven't heard many good things about the book. I figured I couldn't pass it by though- I read so many books that are based off Austen. I'll read that when I finish In the Belly of the Bloodhound so I can let you know :)

The Count may be long, but it is a really good book. Go For It!

As for The Count, I am reading it in March with a buddy, but may try to start it in February.

Isn't that amazing how a cover draws you to some books and makes you pass on others. It is definitely a fun book and worth reading if you love literature.

I started the audiobooks of The Eight and Ender's Game but couldn't get into either one. This was a bad month for me for audiobooks for some reason; I just couldn't seem to focus.

I know the feeling! I would have read it straight through, but I couldn't because of work. It was such a relief when I finally had a nice chunk of time and I could just read and read until the end! When it came to Catching Fire, I wouldn't allow myself to start it until I had that chunk of time to devote to it. But waiting to start it was torture as well!

I finished The Hunger Games and agree with your '!!!', Luann. (There's a link to my review in message 51 in this thread) Then I started The Knife of Never Letting Go and had to put it aside - I need something else less intense in-between *maybe a couple of less intense books*, especially since it's another this-does-not-end-here book. But I still have 3 weeks to get it into Adventure month.

So I just bought the Eyre Affair and I'm so excited to start reading it. Unfortunately I have to finish 3 other books before I can start that one, but I'm sure they'll go fast

I know exactly what you mean! I had just read The Forest of Hands and Teeth right before The Knife of Never Letting Go. They're both very intense, and it was a bit much one right after the other. I had to read them that way because of library due dates, though.

I'm glad you liked The Hunger Games! Nice review, too! When I had finished, I couldn't think about much else but the ending.

I started to read them back in 2007 for my HSC and got right through the series except for the Last Battle. It's taken me two years and a couple of moves but I am finally reading it. I love the whole series, I first came upon them in school when my teacher started to read them to us in the afternoon (we'd come in from lunch and sit down to have a bit of a calm down) and I've been wanting to read the full series ever since. My favourite has got to be either Prince Caspian or The Voyage of the Dawn Tredder :)

Yes, I loved them too. I read them as a child and then I read them to my three sons when they were younger. They are 17, 19 and 21 now but they still remember the Narnia Chronicles. The 19 year old re-read them just a year or two ago.

I didn't even know about them until I was about seven or eight and my teacher started to read them to me in class. We started with the Lion the witch and the wardrobe and then moved on to the silver chair (skipping just a couple in the middle!) later on I read the Voyage of the dawn tredder but it wasn't until 2007 (and I was 17) when I was doing my HSC that I started to read them all in order and WHAT a difference that makes!

I am going to add Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West to my list for this month,if I finish that then I'm going to start on either Percy Jackson or Lemony Snickett

Changed my mind about Percy Jackson and Lemony Snickett have The Secret of Lost Things from the library and as it is due back I think I'd better read that before anything else. But it is on the adventure shelf so it counts

Sophie - it does. I read a combined version of both it and Through the Looking Glass and was really excited that they were on the list. What do you think of the story?

I finished 6 books from this month's shelf, and I think that's it for me. I had to take The Knife of Never Letting Go back to the library because of requests for it, so I'm back on the hold list for that. I kept your recommendation in mind, Luann - otherwise I probably would just have let it go. If my name comes up in time, tho, it'll work for the Dystopia shelf in March as well.

As I said in my review I can see why it has survived so long and I did enjoy it.

BJ Rose - It's kind of funny how many books on my list were also shared on both the adventure shelf and the dystopia shelf. Good luck getting the book back, I have to do that a lot now that I am a library person instead of a buyer.
