Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1416 comments I'm reading Murder on Astor Place (A Gaslight Mystery, #1) by Victoria Thompson a mystery but historical. About halfway through and I'm liking it. I usually don't read mystery but the historical part caught my eye so... giving it a try.

This series does revolve around a murderer though, so story has some killing involved, but the main characters banter is pretty funny. Jack Daniels and her partner Herb are quite funny together.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 361 comments I'm rereading Eclipse Bay (Eclipse Bay Trilogy, # 1) by Jayne Ann Krentz and listening to Dawn in Eclipse Bay (Eclipse Bay Trilogy, # 2) by Jayne Ann Krentz on audio in the car. Since I'm on Thanksgiving dinner duty, I don't dare start anything new. Next weekend I'll start Rebel (The Blades of the Rose, #3) by Zoe Archer and Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh .

message 509: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1416 comments Finished Murder on Astor Place it was pretty good, I liked it :) Going to start Silken Shadows (Killdaren #3) by Jennifer St. Giles next, even though I just found out it's 3rd in a series... oh well, I'll read it anyway.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 361 comments I very rarely read a series in order. I usually end up picking up whichever book appeals to me most. If I like that, then I'll read the others in whatever order I end up buying/finding them.

I find myself doing the same thing a lot. I'll find a book, bring it home, and then realize it's part of a series.

If it's really good, I'll hunt down the others.

message 513: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1285 comments If I don't know the author I usually do the same thing Sandra J and Kristi. I think it's a good way to try out a new author- just reading whatever you pick up/find whether it's part of a series or not.

Valorie and Kristie - I like all the Jack Daniels books - sometimes the humor and the horrible situations seem a little jarring next to each other. I think they are very well written.

I'm literally LMAO!!!! Oh yeah!! It certainly puts things in perspective. Books outside, it's freezing. Do I really, really want to read that book? Argh. Or maybe I'll just go over here to this pile and maybe possibly start another one.

Or how about you bundle up, get all your gear on, stumble through the snow to the car, only to find the snow is blocking your door, or the door is frozen shut. LOL. Been there too!!

I often have five or six books going. That way I'll pick up whichever one I'm in the mood for. Often one of the books is a reread. I don't seem to have a problem keeping things straight, thank goodness!

message 533: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1285 comments Wow! That's impressive Sandra! I can typically only juggle 2-3 books at the same time, and one of those is a reread as well.

message 534: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicasey) Wow! I'm lucky if I can juggle 2 books. And that's usually only bc one is a "heavy" read so I need something light (doesn't require concentration) for when my family is home.

message 535: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1285 comments That's a good strategy Kristi! I might need to switch to that, as I usually can't concentrate when my fam is around either!

message 536: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore | 3220 comments Megan wrote: "Wow! That's impressive Sandra! I can typically only juggle 2-3 books at the same time, and one of those is a reread as well."

Every time I try to read more than one book at a time, it takes me forever to finish any =(

message 537: by Sandra J (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 361 comments Since one book is a reread (and sometimes a second one as well) and another is often a knitting or beading book, it's not really that hard. By the time I've read a page of the book I've picked up, I remember what's been going on. This only works, by the way, until a book "grabs" me. Then I have to finish it before going on to the others. This, of course, doesn't count the audio book I've got going. That doesn't get counted in with what I'm reading since I only listen to it in the car.

message 538: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore | 3220 comments Well, I've finished reading Devil's Bride (Cynster, #1) by Stephanie Laurens . It was ok, but I figured out the mystery early on, and grew a little tired of hearing about the hero's eyes and chest etc. I must be on a historical romance kick so I'm moving on to The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss . Its a really old copy that I just found at my parents house that I can't wait to get started on.

Yea, me too, I try, thinking I can do it, because when I was younger I'd read 2-3 at a time, but not now... I end up just doing one at a time.

Wow! That's a lot of books! How do you keep the plots seperate? And I have to ask...What is a bathroom book?

Everyone always asks me that and I don't have an answer other than I just do... :-) I have zero problems keeping stories straight, especially in a variety of genres and formats like on my list.

And a bath room book is a book I keep in the bath room and only read when I'm in there. I have two bath rooms at home and one at work with a different book in each one. Every time I have to use the bath room I can read a couple pages.

That's what I thought you meant. I've taken a book in the bathroom with me. Usually, I've hit a great spot, don't want to set the book down, so it comes along when I can't hold it anymore.

The problem though is that I sit there reading, as I said it's a good spot. I've had my poor legs fall asleep from sitting there so long!! Only a couple pages? How do you do that? LOL.

I'm still on a historical romance kick though, so I'll have to go through my books. Hopefully, I'll come across a really good one!

message 550: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore | 3220 comments I still wanted to read a historical romance, but needed a dose of something otherworldly, so I've swapped The Viscount and the Virgin by Annie Burrows for Dark Obsession A Novel of Blackheath Moor (Signet Eclipse) by Allison Chase .
