Tonya | 179 comments I am about to start Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning . My BFF is bugging me to read it so we can talk about it, so I switched it on the Nov reading challenge.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) I am taking a break from PNR...probably a short break, but a break. I just finished a cute little romance called Sugar Daddy: Sugar Daddy (Travises, #1) by Lisa Kleypas and I am starting the next in the series Blue-Eyed Devil (Travises, #2) by Lisa Kleypas

Well, any book is going to struggle after Magic Strikes - that's my favorite release of the year.

I have mixed feelings on Deeper. When you are finished I would love to hear what you thought of it.

message 4057: by Tara (new)

Tara | 596 comments I just started Touch the Dark by Karen Chance. And I'm enjoying it do far, I mean I just finished the first chapter, but it's a good sign that I only put it down because I had to go to work, and now that I'm home, I can't wait to get back to it.

ANYWAY, this is only 4 books long so I am starting to think ahead to the next series I will read. I have it narrowed down to three so I ask you guys, what do you like?

Kresley Cole, Immortals After Dark series

Patricia Briggs, Mercy Thompson series

Lynsay Sands, Argeneau Vampires series

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks!

message 4058: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Hey, Tara. You have to read Midnight's Daughter, too! It's the same universe as Cassie Palmer, and it's awesome. If you're liking TtD, you should like that as well. There are a lot of the same characters, seen from a totally different perspective than in Cassie. The events of the book take place around the same time as parts of Curse the Dawn (book 4).

Lynsay Sands is typical PNR--couples pairing off in each book--but Sands has a great sense of humor. Many of her Argeneau books have made me laugh out loud.

Mercy Thompson is very good UF. Mercy is a very down to earth kind of gal, very sensible and capable. Great characters. The first book is a lil slower in pace, especially if you're coming off of reading Chance who is non-stop action (and lust-inducing men).

Haven't read Cole!

message 4059: by Tara (new)

Tara | 596 comments Thanks Michelle. I am definitely going to read Midnight's Daughter, I just figured since the second book in that series is coming out in January, I'd wait until closer so I can read them together.

Hi Tara,
I've read all 3 of the series' you mentioned and loved them all. The Lynsay Sands and Kresley Cole seem to have more humorous romance in them. It kinda depends on the mood you're in! I think I would suggest Kresley Cole... she has strong, witty women heroines and some hot guys vying for their attentions!

I made it through the book. Can't say I'll pick up the next one in the series but I'll read a summary on the author's website and see if it sounds better to me than this one. I gave this book 2 stars.

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments I started both Need (Need, #1) by Carrie Jones and Going Bovine by Libba Bray this week. Need started off kind of boring and it was hard to get into because of all the dialogue and inner monologue and no description. But then I kept reading and it got really interesting. There's these glimpses that something isn't quite right with the town and the teenagers in it. I'm really curious to find out what's actually going on.

And I have a fear of looking out windows when it's dark out, I think someone will be out there looking back in! So, there's been parts where this book has creeped me out!

I'm reading Going Bovine at work and it's really funny but I haven't gotten far yet. I'm hoping things pick up for Cameron though because his life pretty much sucks and it'll get depressing to read about if things don't change soon.

Nita (gillnit) I just finished Big Bad Wolf by Christine Warren . It was pretty good. I like Graham, but the actual plot wasn't as entertaining as the previous books in the series.

I just started Midnight's Master (Midnight, #3) by Cynthia Eden . I have been looking forward to reading about Niol.

Thanks Valorie, I'm leaning towards Kresley Cole as well. Mostly because I think I will get those from pbs first.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I just finished Deeper by Megan Hart Deeper by Megan Hart. How do I feel about the book? I'm not sure... I keep asking myself, what was the point?

CJ - It's only a Paper Moon (bookewyrm) | 57 comments Currently reading Mr. Darcy, Vampyre...it's definitely an interesting read. So far it's kept my interest and stayed true enough to the characters without me having to scratch my head - however, I hope some sort of understanding or something happens soon...

message 4072: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) I just finished THE HOST today, what a very intelligent creative book. I tried reading Sherilyn Kenyon's first book Fantasy Lover and the cringe factor was just too much for me, it was like watching a bad movie where you put the pillow upto your face through sheer embarassment. The writing was poor and amateurish. I did read all of it though, and have been told they do get better, although I read the second dark hunter and was equally not impressed. The Host alteast is a book that requires some intelligence, I highly recommend it and I kind of mourned its loss when i had finished it. I am going to read The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Seterfield next.

Yes, I have already read some of those blush worthy moments. Niol is one sexy demon.

I loved The Host. It was much better than her Twilight Series, IMHO, and I was thrilled to learn they are making a movie out of the book. Which I hope is done better than Twilight was.

Stick with it, it's a brilliant series and one of my favorites from the YA genre, hands down. (Other YA recommendations include Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires, Kelley Armstrong's Dark Powers, Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments and Holly Black's Modern Faerie Tales - I see you already have Melissa Marr's stuff).

I love the cover of Lover Avenged. The male model looks nothing like the way Rehv is described, but is still totally HOT.

Amanda Orlich Ahern (kittymeowxcore) | 97 comments Right now, I'm reading "Shadowlight" by Lynn Viehl. It took a while for me to get into her prior series, but once I was in, I was hooked. But I'm having the same problem I had with the Darkyn series. There are too many darned characters! I've only read the first 7% (Kindle user, here) and already I'm having a hard time figuring out what characters are important.

This was a problem before, but I adjusted to the madness that is Lynn Viehl.

Not Louise, obviously, but I believe she was referring to Tempted, the latest House of Night book which is, by many accounts, crap. I haven't read my copy yet.

Really? I'm not that far into Shadowlight, but I can't say that was ever a problem for me in the Darkyn series. I immediately picked up that Alex and Michael were the main couple and so on, maybe because I've been reading in the genre a while or maybe because I take my time reading, who knows.
