I've heard a lot people say they have to finish a book even if they don't like it. I'm not like that I'm like you. if I don't like it I stop reading it.

I've been putting this series off for a while, because quite frankly I'm intimidated by how many books are in the series so far. But it was recommended as a buddy read for this month, so I finally will get to meet the infamous Rourke that I keep hearing so much about.

message 17414: by Alisa (new)

Alisa (alisakayco) | 110 comments I just recently finished Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee , The Reaping (The Fahllen, #1) by M. Leighton , Branded (Fall of Angels #1) by Keary Taylor , Amaury's Hellion (Scanguards Vampires, #2) by Tina Folsom , The Chase (Fast Track, #4) by Erin McCarthy , Tempus by Tyra Lynn , & Then Came You (Gamblers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas .

I'm going to continue to finish most of the series of the books I've just listed and Devour (Devour #1) by Shelly Crane . I'm not sure what else...

I just got the audiobook for Rapture In Death, but I'm not sure I'm liking it. I think I would rather read it because I'm not a fan of one voice per book (a woman doing a man's voice and vice versa). I could barely stand it with Gabaldon's Outlander series.

Deana (dstom) | 19 comments Denise wrote: "Just started Mark of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #1) by Diana Rowland. Is this series like another, just for reference?"

I think only in the vaguest sense: the h in this series is in law enforcement (a cop) but has summoning abilities, and has an older (caretaker) aunt who also summons, and a demon that's been summoned by others that h is *positive* she doesn't want let loose on the world.
therefore, vaguely similar to
Dead Witch Walking -- Rachel works law enforcement, her mom's a witch too, and Big Al isn't exactly trying to stop graffiti.

[ETA:] I think you'll like the story though; h thinks of herself as a plain jane that happens to be a cop & summoner.... :)

I'd agree with Deana's assessment. That was actually a pretty good comparison, that I never could have come up with. I just wanted to chime in and say that I really like this series. There is a vein of romance, but not much, and it's a great series if you like mysteries and police procedurals.

cerulean🦋 (fakeflowers) | 31 comments About half way through Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between (Rhiannon's Law #1) by J.A. Saare and I'm happy to say I'm really enjoying it! I have a few small grievances, but still a recommendable read.

Nearly done with Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (Jessica, #1) by Beth Fantaskey and man, I'm kinda glad it's almost over. It could've been a really fun/spunky, but it's a bit more on the depressing/lame side... :( I wish there would've been a tish bit more dating and a tish bit less rejecting one another.

Hi Jenn and PA, I've read Angelology last year and it definitely is a different style of book to our favourites we love here. It is what I call a "literary book" definitely well written but a lot more detailed and labourious in its style and language. The world building is also based on a religious theme. I actually liked it but had to concentrate on it a lot more that my usual reads. It is the first in a trilogy of books the next one out I think sometme next year.

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 81 comments I'm always a bit wary when I have really enjoyed a series and then there is an off-shoot series. One I have really enjoyed is the Mercy Thompson/Alpha & Omega series'. I have loved Cat & Bones but have been really apprehensive about picking up First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost (I've had it out from the library 3 TIMES without reading it), but I have now started it and am liking it so far (only just started though).

Any other series like these two?

I really enjoyed the spin offs. Still though, it feels like secondary characters because that's how they were introduced. But I like that it adds more to the world

I really liked it. It was a nice refreshing & different take on angels. Usually angel books are more UF these days, but this one is set in a dystopian world. It's more gritty and the heroine is a good strong character. It's a very short book. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series when it comes out. I would recommend it.

On the author's site, you can read the first 5 chapters there for free: http://susanee.com/angels/angelfall-f...

With all that said, I'm one of the types who usually likes most of the books I read lol. I rarely find a book I don't like. I've read boring books, yes, but not too many books where I wouldn't recommend them. After all, we all have our own preferences...

are you looking for a series and its spin-off?
Jacquelyn Frank has the Nightwalkers, and the spin-off is the Shadowdwellers series.

Gena showalter's Lords of the Underworld has a spin-off coming soon-the Angels of the Dark Wicked Nights

It really was refreshing! I actually found it a couple of weeks ago on someone's review list on Amazon and it seemed interesting so I bought it. I was blown away! I couldn't believe how much I loved it. Honestly, I haven't read a book that gripped me like that in a really, really long time. I actually can't stop thinking about it.

By the way, thank you so much for posting the link/details. I should've mentioned that I had read it already! Sorry! :D

I really liked the spin offs too. It gave the secondary characters more depth. She would not have been able to slide there stories in without taking the focus off of cat and bones. I was happy it was a spin off and separate. They are not as good as NH, but I dont think they were intended to be. You cant have secondary stories out-shine the main story, now can you. LOL
