Adult.
No detailed sex scenes since it's UF but there is sex.

I love this series. This book is so great. You're going to so fall for Rourke.

I've been putting this series off for a while, because quite frankly I'm intimidated by how many books are in the series so far. But it was recommended as a buddy read for this month, so I finally will get to meet the infamous Rourke that I keep hearing so much about.

I'm going to continue to finish most of the series of the books I've just listed and

I just got the audiobook for Rapture In Death, but I'm not sure I'm liking it. I think I would rather read it because I'm not a fan of one voice per book (a woman doing a man's voice and vice versa). I could barely stand it with Gabaldon's Outlander series.

I think only in the vaguest sense: the h in this series is in law enforcement (a cop) but has summoning abilities, and has an older (caretaker) aunt who also summons, and a demon that's been summoned by others that h is *positive* she doesn't want let loose on the world.
therefore, vaguely similar to
Dead Witch Walking -- Rachel works law enforcement, her mom's a witch too, and Big Al isn't exactly trying to stop graffiti.
[ETA:] I think you'll like the story though; h thinks of herself as a plain jane that happens to be a cop & summoner.... :)

Well, I have liked the Rachel Morgan series so I will hopefully like this one too. Thanks.

I'd agree with Deana's assessment. That was actually a pretty good comparison, that I never could have come up with. I just wanted to chime in and say that I really like this series. There is a vein of romance, but not much, and it's a great series if you like mysteries and police procedurals.

Oh good to know about Jessica's Guide... It's on my TBR list and I will definitely not be reading it anytime soon. I was expecting a fun, quirky read!

Hi Jenn and PA, I've read Angelology last year and it definitely is a different style of book to our favourites we love here. It is what I call a "literary book" definitely well written but a lot more detailed and labourious in its style and language. The world building is also based on a religious theme. I actually liked it but had to concentrate on it a lot more that my usual reads. It is the first in a trilogy of books the next one out I think sometme next year.

Any other series like these two?

It's gonna be very hard to beat those two ;)

I loved that book!!

Now I'm taking a break from the paranormal and am reading

I really enjoyed the spin offs. Still though, it feels like secondary characters because that's how they were introduced. But I like that it adds more to the world

Oh, what did you think of Angelfall?"
I really liked it. It was a nice refreshing & different take on angels. Usually angel books are more UF these days, but this one is set in a dystopian world. It's more gritty and the heroine is a good strong character. It's a very short book. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series when it comes out. I would recommend it.
On the author's site, you can read the first 5 chapters there for free: http://susanee.com/angels/angelfall-f...
With all that said, I'm one of the types who usually likes most of the books I read lol. I rarely find a book I don't like. I've read boring books, yes, but not too many books where I wouldn't recommend them. After all, we all have our own preferences...

are you looking for a series and its spin-off?
Jacquelyn Frank has the Nightwalkers, and the spin-off is the Shadowdwellers series.
Gena showalter's Lords of the Underworld has a spin-off coming soon-the Angels of the Dark Wicked Nights

It really was refreshing! I actually found it a couple of weeks ago on someone's review list on Amazon and it seemed interesting so I bought it. I was blown away! I couldn't believe how much I loved it. Honestly, I haven't read a book that gripped me like that in a really, really long time. I actually can't stop thinking about it.
By the way, thank you so much for posting the link/details. I should've mentioned that I had read it already! Sorry! :D

I really liked the spin offs too. It gave the secondary characters more depth. She would not have been able to slide there stories in without taking the focus off of cat and bones. I was happy it was a spin off and separate. They are not as good as NH, but I dont think they were intended to be. You cant have secondary stories out-shine the main story, now can you. LOL

Yeah it's actually good. The alternate narrators make it a little bit confusing but I can handle that. :)

it's a really remarkable book, i'm liking it and hoping the sequels are good.

Oooo...I loved Shade's book. :) Enjoy!

Me, too! Anxiously awaiting Lothaire.

I hope you enjoy it more this time. I am going to give the vampires in America series another try. I hear such good things. I tried it once and didn't read past the 3rd chapter but I think I was preoccupied with other things.

I'm sure a lot of those "My Roarke" this, "My Roarke" that posted more than a few on this thread...I love this series AND if you can borrow the audiobook from your library, it's so worth it. Roarke's Irish accent needs to be experienced. I hope you'll like it too.

I heard that this series is awesome, hmm, gotta read it myself:>

Thanks for your suggestions, Laura... again a bit wary of LOTU series due to its "demonic" nature.. not sure how I would like this series (and isn't it borderline erotic?)

Yeah I didn't get very far into it as the other books came out but I found that it had just started to get interesting. I have the first two but I will eventually get back into it once I finish The Night Huntress series. I'm not like you & the others, I can't read more then one book at a time & only read before going to sleep so I read at the pace of a snail lol

I've heard a lot people say they have to finish a book even if they don't like it. I'm not like that I'm like you. if I don't like it I stop reading it.
