Pansy | 740 comments P.A. : I just finished Chasin' Eight Rough Riders, Book 11 by Lorelei James and it was the best one. I was so into Chase and Ava that I was breezing through the sex scenes because I was so into the interactions with the main couple. Don't get me wrong, the sex was very steamy. I am really impressed with the way the author has set up for the next book. I thought the series would bore me after the first few but I am really looking forward to the next book.I have learned so mcuh about bull riding with just this book. It was a great read.

I agree, I loved the two of them together. I also think it's great that the author writes erotic romance and yet there wasn't a sex scene for over 100 pages. She really built the tension between the two. Loralei James is a fantastic author, and she makes me wish I lived in the South--although, I doubt there are any cowboys like the McKay cowboys *sigh*--but that's why we read, right.

message 14909: by Magda (new)

Magda | 558 comments I completely agree. The chemistry between Chase and Ava was great. They didn't just hop into bed together & decide they were compatible. I felt their relationship grow. One of my favorites from the RR series.

I also love the family connection between the McKays, they're all stubborn, rowdy, independent, and they are a very close family. I love how she's interwoven such a wide range of characters into one family--I love them all. I could read this series for as many as she writes, it never gets boring or predictable.

message 14912: by Lady Heather (new)

Lady Heather (_ladyheather_) I'm reading Trinity (Brethren, #1) by Deena Remiel and although it has been some really good reviews...I'm 65% into it and having a hard time reading it. The story's getting really 'lame' for me. I SO wanted this story to be amazing, because the beginning was awesome! I hope it picks up soon because if not, I'm gonna have to drop it.

I enjoyed this book but there is a twist at the end that I didn't really like. I have books 2 & 3 and plan to read them for the September challenges.

It's YA. You know, I always judge a book by its cover and the cover doesn't look YA. The ratings seem good, but we all have different tastes.
I actually added Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris to my challenge because everyone raves about Sookie Stackhouse. I read it awhile ago and gave it 1 star, but I'm going to give it another shot--you never know.

Magda | 558 comments PA, the Sookie books get progressively better. I always rate introductory/world building books lower than the follow up books. Stick with them, book #4 was great. The series started declining, to me, with book #10.

message 14924: by P.A. (new)

P.A. Lupton (palupton) | 909 comments Magda, that's why I decided to give it another try. I think you're right though, with the exception of Halfway to the Grave, most other first books in my favorite series weren't always the best. Dark Lover BDB, and the midnight series Lara Adrian are good examples of that.

Magda | 558 comments Oh, yes. Look at Immortals After Dark. I love, love, love that series. I read the short story Playing Easy to Get & put off the rest of the series because I couldn't get into it. I had a hard time getting into/understanding the characters/world. Now, it's one of my favorites.

I've only read Book#1 in the Midnight Breed series, rated it 2 stars. Am afraid of picking up the next one.

I agree Magda - 1st books in most cases are almost always weaker than the rest of the series.

Book 4 for Sookie verse is my all time favorite and she lost me on on the last two installments.

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) It is not a paranormal, but so far it is good. The main character is an 11 yr old named Flavia, who is an aspiring chemist and has a passion for poisons. The books starts out with her gagged, tied up and locked in a closet. You will have to read it see why and who locked her up. It's funny ... I know, I know ... Torture. LOL

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce, #1) by Alan Bradley

I think the family dynamics is what I like the most about the books. Instead of them getting bad they get better. Ms. James has definitely found her niche.

I've read it, too!
No, I agree it can't be as amazing as VA, but it makes good competition. (:
I liked Sydney's POV.
I missed a bit Rose, and I see some people's point in saying Bloodlines was a bit boring, but Richelle Mead did awesome job at keeping Sydney's character real and it's not her fault if the girl is like that haha ;D

La La | 245 comments I finished reading 1-3 of the Elemental Assassin series. I love the concept and the books are pretty enjoyable, but I can see what is meant when everyone says the author repeats herself. And she does. A LOT. That part got annoying fast. To the point where as soon as I saw a repeat I'd skip to dialogue. That constant kind of ruined an otherwise pretty decent series. I'm going to read the rest of the series just to see how she kills Mab Monroe. I still have to read book 4. Now I'm reading Blood Hunt (Sentinel Wars, #5) by Shannon K. Butcher . Loving it so far.
