Heather in FL (heather_fl) Finally made it back to Lords of the Underworld. I read The Darkest Prison (Lords of the Underworld, #3.5) by Gena Showalter last night. It was a short story, so it didn't take too long, but it still kept me up too late, lol. I'm guessing Nike and Atlas will make an appearance in the next book since they mentioned wanting to find the Lords since they're apparently garnering the attention of Cronus. Enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that. So today I'll start The Darkest Whisper (Lords of the Underworld, #4) by Gena Showalter .

Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz/Jayne Castle are comfort reads for me. If I feel upset or I need to feel better, I pick any of her books. They feel like a warm, soft blanket and leave you with a happy feeling when you are done.

that's really comforting. i'm still early in the novel but it's getting more interesting as i go on. i already like the main characters and their attraction to each other that they're fighting. hehe

Also finished Sea Witch (Children of the Sea, #1) by Virginia Kantra which was OK. I am now reading Night Play (Dark-Hunter, #5) (Were-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon which is awesome and very difficult to put down.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I actually think that Clockwork Angel is better than City of Bones if you're comparing them as first books in a series, since CoB was a little bit weaker than CoA and CoG. City of Glass is my favorite of all of her books though. :)

I love this series. The sequel doesn't disappoint either, but the cliffhanger at the end is HORRIBLE.

You might try something besides vampires, too. I've read several series that are demon-based, and they're pretty good as well. I'm not sure what you've been looking for in paperbackswap, but expanding what you're looking for might help. Like Larissa Ione's Demonica was a great series. And Black Dagger Brotherhood from JR Ward (that is vampires, btw). And Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalkers, and Alexandra Ivy's Guardian's of Eternity (vampires again). Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series is good -- Rachel is a witch, but there are other supes. Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega series are good. There are so many good ones and so many I haven't even gotten to yet. So welcome to the obsession. :-)

I'm now trying to catch up on the Midnight Breeds series. Right now i'm on Veil of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #5) by Lara Adrian .

I also finished Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern this week. They were both pretty good.

On PBS you will end up waiting quite a while for some books, but I find most PNR books move fairly quickly, especially if its an older series.

message 8941: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Right now I'm almost halfway through Beyond the Night by Joss Ware.
The premise for this series is really great - post-apocalyptic world with zombies and evil immortals and guys who missed the last 50 years. It's really cool. But the story is.... blah. The characters are double blah. The romance is... well, you get the idea.
I'm trying to decide if I should power through or if I should cut my losses now?

message 8942: by Jaime (new)

Jaime Rush (jaime_rush) | 122 comments Nichole, I know it's tough when you're halfway through a book and aren't into it. For me, especially, since I don't have a lot of time to read. Usually when I'm in that place, I'll check out reviews and see if others had the same issues. Sometimes you'll see reviews where people say they're happy they powered through because they loved the second half or ending.

I'm reading Industrial Magic and am liking it. I like that there aren't too many creatures/entities, which I have found confusing in other books.

message 8943: by Anita (new)

Anita (a1momgram) | 32 comments Just finished Discord's Apple by Carrie Vaughn really did not enjoy it. This is my first book by Carrie Vaughn I hope her Kitty books are better because I have all of them in my TBR. So now I need a book by one of my fave authors so started Wicked Appetite (The Unmentionables, #1) by Janet Evanovich . So far so good but I will say the book is alot like her Plum books. If you love them you'll enjoy this one.

IMO, it's ok, nothing like what you'd expect from BDB series. The bar was set pretty high with BDB though. I was excited for any work from Ward and will continue to read the series.

I have an iPhone... I have the Kindle app, Nook app, Kobo app, Borders app, iBooks, and Stanza. Love the Kindle app -- so easy (dangerous) to buy -- but if you buy books from alternative sources (i.e. AllRomanceebooks.com or the like), Stanza's good for that. Nook app isn't bad, and it's tied to the B&N store. I haven't had reason to actually use the Kobo or Borders apps. I don't like iBooks. Maybe it's better on an iPad, but I don't like it on the iPhone. I think these except iBooks are available on non-Apple smartphones too, and they're usually free. Kindle and Nook often have freebies available (non-public domain books). HTH!
