I gotta say after reading two books back-to-back with first-person narration then jumping into one with third-person narration it throws you off balance. lol I keep re-reading lines cause I catch myself reading it wrong. LOL

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I'm reading Twas The Night by Sandra Hill and I find myself spending a lot of time smiling or snickering. Some of the dialog is cheesy, but it's funny as heck to watch these 3 macho guys bumbling and stumbling around try to get the women of their dreams to notice them.

ahah i know!! You are branded as Mrs Bones! I will definitely let you know what i think about my first paranormal experience **snickers**

Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James is chick lit all the way!! but i liked it a lot! found myself smiling at the quips of the heroine. Julie James being a lawyer herself does a great job making her heroines career woman and never helpless... quirky fun!

message 2276: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Why do you think that Just the Sexiest Man Alive is chick lit, Autumn? I've heard that from several people but I don't see it...it just seemed a good contemporary romance to me. All the chick lit I've read is usually more focused on the heroine and how she can advance in her career, it's usually told in the 1st person and the romance is usually secondary to the heroine knowing herself and all that. None of this applied to this book, Taylor is already a successful lawyer, it's third person and even though the romance really flourishes at the end, Jason is almost as important as the heroine (a lot of the book is told from his point of view.)

i do agree with you on certain pts.. but there wasnt much depth and development from characters or plot IMPO to make it a solid contemp romance book. I still gave it 5stars because i enjoyed so much the dialogues and the interaction of the heroine in her career was fantastic.. but i dindt care about jason as much until the last chapter to be honest.. but is a good read no doubt about that!

ps: the secret is a great read! :) i hope u find it a fun read. xxx

D.G. Atumn wrote: "but there wasnt much depth and development from characters or plot IMPO to make it a solid contemp romance book. "

I've read good chick lit with good plot and character development so I don't think that's the definition of chick lit. You can have books in both genres without depth and development.

I loved that book so I don't disagree with you on your rating, just on why you thought it was chick lit.

message 2282: by Autumn (last edited Dec 27, 2010 04:39PM) (new)

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments when i think chick lit addresses issues of modern women often humorously and lightheartedly, and that part resonated with this book. There is also the part of the chick lit where the other relationships overshadows the romance.. i think i agree with you there. so it makes sense in a way.

all of her 3 books are in this month challenge.. so i like them that much!lol chick lit or not they are very good. ;)xxx

message 2283: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh yes, I loved her books too. I have Practice Makes Perfect to read next month!

A book that people call romance that seems more chick lit to me was Too Good to Be True. The heroine did a lot of crazy stuff which is something I almost always associate with chick lit.

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I know a lot of people feel Sugar Daddy is chick lit. I can see the reasoning, but it didn't feel that way to me. It certainly is different than all of her other books, and I do wonder why she chose to write it in the manner she did. However, in the end, for me it doesn't matter, I loved the story of Liberty, and that book was just beautiful to me.

Sugar Daddy chick lit? Oh gosh no! For a book to be chick lit, it has to have some humor and there's nothing to laugh about a girl who is dirt poor and has to take the responsibility for her sister at a young age. The first half read more like contemporary fiction to me but the second half is was more romance.

I lean in that direction- although I wouldn't say it was a fully fledged member of the genre there was a bit too much mention of brand names and hair/makeup stuff for me.

Ofc!! thats what i was referring to. Flick gets the darn emu, They give it away to avoid incrimination, and because, hey, 'its an emu' then yrs later in an super upscale restaurant she finds it a delicacy!!! fancy that!
