Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments So, I'm making the big leap into Claiming the Courtesan

The beginning seems familiar, and I wonder - have I already read this??? Or was this just what I remember from an excerpt?

More to come later...

:-)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I'm reading Tongue In Chic by Christina Dodd. I'm loving it. I'm kind of meh on mainstream contemporaries, in general. But this one is really good.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments A Kingdom of Dreams was amaaaaaaazing! I'm having trouble writing the review because it was so good :(

I'm now reading The Duke And I :)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments It's now one of my all time favorite reads. *sigh*

I realized last night, because I can't stop thinking about the book, that 2 of my top 10 heroes are named Royce.

Royce from A Kingdom of Dreams, and Royce from Garwood's The Prize

message 161: by Cheryl (last edited Feb 12, 2010 10:10AM) (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments I am reading Sins of a Duke by Suzanne Enoch and it is fabulous so far! The hero is a composed, stern, very serious, widower of four years (and celibate since his wife's death!), father to an eight year old girl, and meddling oldest brother to 3 other siblings. The heroine is taking him for a ride and it is spinning his head around and I LOVE it!!!!

I am also reading Emma by Jane Austen and am enjoying it as well!

message 162: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Sins of a Duke sounds good. It got mediocre ratings, but it seems like a book I'd like.

A Kingdom of Dreams was a very good book. I'm glad you enjoy it, Dhestiny.

message 163: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 1478 comments I love Emma!

message 164: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments I haven't read any Judith McNaught yet but she is on my list- I own Almost Heaven but haven't made my way to it yet. I'm sure I'll love her books.

Alycia- I am loving Emma's character, she's a hoot! And Mr. Woodhouse cracks me up!

Danielle- I noticed SoaD did not get great ratings. Unless something happens that makes me mad or it just goes downhill from here, I can't imagine it getting low ratings. As long as it is consistent from where I am at, it will be getting 4 or 5 stars from me. I'll keep you posted, but so far he is right up your alley!

message 165: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 1478 comments Cheryl,
How do you like Knightly? Have you read any other books by Austen? I loved Emma's character too. And Mr. Woodhouse is funny, always worrying.

message 166: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Well, I think I will like Mr. Knightly very much. He is so in love with Emma but doesn't even know it yet! Those are the best kinds of love!! I loved it when he said "I confess that I have seldom seen a face or figure more pleasing to me than hers."--That was sweet!

message 167: by Alycia (last edited Feb 12, 2010 10:50AM) (new)

Alycia | 1478 comments I agree, that is sweet. He is probably my third favorite Austen hero. Mr. Darcy first from P & P, then Colonel Brandon from S & S, then Knightly. You sound like you are far into the book already. My favorite Austen novels are P & P, S & S, Emma, and Mansfield Park, though I have read them all. I do recommend trying them all if you have the chance.

message 168: by [deleted user] (new)

Re-reading Scandal in Spring...and loving every bit of it just as much as I did the first time around.

I just bought some Suzanna Enoch and Lucy Monroe books. Hope they will be here soon.

message 169: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Alycia- I have only read P&P and now Emma. I've watched the movie for S&S and P&P and now I'm dying to watch Emma but I'm trying to wait until I've finished the book. I am in a Jane Austen Book Club that just started, we started with Emma and will read a different Jane Austen book each month until we have read them all. It is with a group of local ladies (including my mom and sisters and friends). --Oh, and I love Darcy, too!! Who doesn't?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Heidi, Claiming the Courtesan isn't really part of a series, although Tempt the Devil does have an appearance of Kylemore and Verity. You should be fine with CtC. The Admiral's Bride is part of the Tall, Dark, and Dangerous Navy Seals series. Prince Joe is the first in that series.

That sounds like a lot of fun, your book club! On the movies, I much preferred the BBC version of S & S! It was more accurate to the book and not slow. I loved the P & P version with Kiera Knightly better. I loved the BBC version of Emma, it has Kate Beckensale in it. I netflix-ed Persuasion and I think it was a BBC production. I have not seen Northanger Abby.

Thanks for the info on the movies! I did not see the BBC version of S&S, I'd like to see it b/c I did not like who they had playing Colonel Brandon in the other version. I also prefer the P&P with Kiera Knightly and I LOVED Matthew MacFadyen as Darcy! I'd like to watch the PBS version of Emma-- I watched about 20 minutes of it one night and it looked really good, you can download it off of PBS's website.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Oh, Cheryl. I absolutely adore Captain Brandon in the Masterpiece Theater version of Sense and Sensibility. He is played by David Morrissey. Normally I didn't like him as an actor, but he was divine as Col Brandon. I bought it just for him (although it helped that I bought the duo with Persuasion starring Rupert Penry-Jones).

message 177: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank Danielle. I am off to see if I can find CaC to buy...since I see you and others raving about Kylemore...I think I must try this out!

Yay! So glad you enjoyed it! ^_^

I have been having trouble getting into new books, at the moment. Just can't seem to focus on meeting new characters. And because of all your McNaught talk, I'm thinking I need to spend some time with Alex and Jordan from Something Wonderful. I love this book! I need to get a new edition though. Mine is looking very old now.

Oh, I think you will, Cheryl. I'd recommend reading Something Wonderful before Almost Heaven though. SW happens first in time and the characters is SW reappear in AH. They are my top 2 Judith Mcnaught books and are keepers I love going back to.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments The kiss at the end of North and South! Seriously, that kiss was hotter than most sex scenes I've seen in movies. Wow, the way he took her face in his hands, like she was the most precious thing on earth. The way he looked at her. (THUD!!!)

I TOTALLY agree, Danielle! Best kiss scene EVER! Just the way he looked at her and those strong, long fingers gently cupping her face? *sighs* Oh, you make me want to watch it again! LOL

I know...((hanging head in shame)) I feel like a broken record. But in my defense, when I fall, I fall hard, and I am a one man woman...I have no eyes for anyone other than the one who I obsess over!

:-)

message 193: by Lady Jayne *~*The Beach Bandida*~* (last edited Feb 12, 2010 01:33PM) (new)

Lady Jayne *~*The Beach Bandida*~* (ladyjayne) | 400 comments LOL! It's all good, Bekah! You know that teasing is a sign of love. ^_^ I love seeing how much you adore Gage.

IRL, I'm a one man woman, too. I adore my husband. But...in my fantasy world, there are just too many yummy heroes to choose from. I need to gush about my Marcus more. I mean, if push came to shove, I'd chose Marcus, but I can't help but love LK's other heroes. They are all so swoon-worthy.

Of course, my long-time love is Ian Thornton from Almost Heaven. I fell for him when I was 17 and he will always be in my heart. ^_^

message 194: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I know what you mean, Jayne and Bekah. I may seem fickle and boy crazy with all my heroes and my actors I like, but I'm pretty steadfast in real life. It's just fun!

Wait I am confused... Morrissey was Brandon. Or did I misunderstand you :)
I watched north & south... don't remember the kiss at the end. Maybe I should watch it again.

message 196: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Oh... the kiss... it was a very romantic scene, you are right- one of the best kisses on screen! And Danielle, I know exactly what you mean about it being hotter than some of the sex scenes on tv, it was all the passion and the looks that went into it! It was so hot my tv was smoking!! I also loved it when earlier in the movie he declared his love to Margaret and she rejected him- it reminded me a lot of Darcy and Elizabeth! I just can't stop thinking about all those scowls Richard Armitage kept making- I'm thinking I know a thing or two to wipe those right off his face! I'd die if he ever looked at me the way he was looking at Margaret at the Train station!! *heart-beat accelerating very fast*

Jayne- thanks for the info on the reading order of Something Wonderful and Almost Heaven. I'll make a note of it!

message 197: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments Well, I haven't actually really met Marcus yet...so...who knows what may be?? Plus I don't know this Ian Thornton..I will go check him out now.

Also, while I obsess over Gage, don't think I didn't find Jack, Hardy, Jack Devlin, Derek Craven, John McKenna, Sir Ross Cannon, Zachary Bronson, ... well you get the idea, supremely hot and deserving of my lust and fantasizing.

I'm not THAT much of a one man woman...it is the fiction world after all...and God Bless LK!

:-)

Ok, so you are talking about movies now that I am gonna have to run out and by and I will be compairing them all to La Figlia Di Elisa!!!

So I need:

North & South
Sense & Sensibility

What the other one? HELP?

Lady Jayne *~*The Beach Bandida*~* (ladyjayne) | 400 comments Well, Heidi, North & South is not of the shirtless hotness level and passion of La Figlia Di Elisa, but is searingly romantic and hot with all their clothes on! ^_^ Richard Armitage? *sighs* It's those gazes, scowls, and light touches that just say so much. *more sighing* And just to warn you, the kiss doesn't come til, well, it's a long wait but truly worth it. It's all the build-up leading to that moment and just his expression and body language that just speaks volumes of his love and passion. I ADORE John Thornton of North & South! ^_^

(stops gushing)
