Aah. I just read Julie's review of Dark Prince I think (as I have some quite similar tastes to her) and I'm still chuckling. A quote from Julie : "Although it is almost unheard of for the hero and the heroine of the same book to be TSTL, I thought that Mikhail and Raven both were on more than one occasion."

message 1112: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) IMO, "Dark Prince" is the worst of the series. I didn't like Raven at all. She kept pissing me off with her TSTL attitude. And Mikhail was sooooo caveman. BUT he is the leader so this is an important book. My buds made me continue the series, and it gets much better with the next book. So you kinda realize "Dark Prince" is wallbanger material, but if you continue reading it's worth suffering through that first one. ;)

I think so many times with a series the author is kinda feeling her way through the first novel. You have all the world-building to do, and many times a series doesn't start to gel until the second book. This is certainly true of the Carpathian novels. ;)

I enjoyed Two Little Lies more than One Little Sin. You could actually see the cogs in Quinn's mind going round as he figured out his mistakes. I'm looking forward to "Three Little" which I have ready for the spell SepTember challenge but Outlander is now in progress!

I actually skipped the first one and read 2-6. Working on getting the rest of them. I did like them, not a normal vamp book, which I was glad for bc I don't normally dig those.

message 1130: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) Yeah, Mandy, they get really good after the first one. Although you should give it a shot at some point (Dark Prince). Mikhail is the Prince and leader of the Carpathians, and Savannah is his and Raven's daughter in "Dark Magic" (she mates with Gregory.).

MashJ | 733 comments Finished Outlander and now onto Gentle Rogue.

I finished Outlander over the weekend-it didn't grab me and pull me in as I'd hoped it would. Maybe I had too much information going into it-and that meant I had preconceived expectations. Do we ever find out Geillis Duncan's back story by the way?

I didn't think it was bad though- very interesting in places but maybe the pacing was a bit too uneven for me to really love it. Wonderful historical detail- very little seemed out of place. There may have been a little too much violence - not because I object to it per se but because I can never figure out the choreography on fight scenes so I tend to skim over them and that takes me out of the super-absorbed reading state. I read it over 3 evenings and I think it's a 3.5 stars for now. I'll read the next one in the series I think and see how she hits her stride- hopefully no Loch Ness Monsters!!

Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon Gentle Rogue (Malory Family, #3) by Johanna Lindsey

*I didn't get that wonderful sense that sometimes happens when you are reading a book and have got too absorbed of being lightheaded/dizzy because your body is so focused on the book that it isn't processing much external information.

Gellis back story is discussed a lot more in Dragonfly in Amber.

Thank you- I hate it when characters get abandoned with no explanation so I'll look forward to finding out more. That section of the book where Claire is living in Leoch together with the section in the abbey were my favourite parts. I have put DIA into my amazon basket with voyager but it'll have to wait until next month.

message 1136: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. You should see if you can get it at the library Mshj. Without giving it away, but Gellis ends up having a big impact on Claire and Jamie's life.

Good point- I can see 8 copies in the county and reservable online.

BTW I am reading Gentle Rogue and cackling a lot. It is not quite the same literary endeavour as Outlander but many swashes are being buckled.

Robin | 361 comments I'm currently reading Double Play (Harlequin Blaze) by Joanne Rock and the heroine not only loves to read she is a book reviewer for a newspaper. The following is a description of her house. "Books filled every conceivable inch of space. Built-in shelves butted up against furniture racks so that the walls looked as if they were covered with spines for wallpaper. ... She must have covered her collection in paper jackets of her own making because all the spines were mostly white with brightly colored strips in the center where the title and author went." It goes on to describe the different colors used such as red, green and yellow.

I liked it. Its one of those books though where you get a sense of where things go from here there's no Epilogue and when it ends you're like wait I wasn't ready yet, I wanted to spend some more time with these people. As for the description of her house I think it starts on pg. 70 and goes through pg 71.(e-version) I wish my library was that organized.

The BBC does a radio show of these books I think. Very funny. I just checked- it is a BBC show but not available right now, however the voice of Agatha is played by Penelope Keith (To the Manor Born and The Good Life) and she reads the audio CDs.
