Akrisios swallowed."You will feel this, Lupin." He hissed."Idiot. I never spoke of your secrets, why bring mine into the open. It was the last thing I needed." He stood up, clearing his throat."I may not be able to attend Care of Magical Creatures today." He murmured to Anni and Medea. "Something seems to have come up." He shot through the doorway and down a side hall.

"Um... Bye, Akrisios," Medea said. She didn't know why, but she felt a sudden twinge of worry for Lyra. Akrisios looked angry.

((Aw... I feel like Jessica. I want to give Akrisios a hug too. Poor guy.))
Medea turned to Anni. "Well, hi," she said with an akward laugh. "I'm Medea. You're Anni, right?"
Medea turned to Anni. "Well, hi," she said with an akward laugh. "I'm Medea. You're Anni, right?"
((Yes, but no one would believe it. Now he's screwed, he doesn't want people to think that his father is a horrible man because they won't believe it, they'll think he's just a spoiled brat.))

Medea picked up her books and wandered down the hall to Care of Magical Creatures. She didn't know where Avery had gone too, and tried not to be too disappointed. She entered the room and hesitated. Where should she sit? Avery didn't appear to be here yet. I need more friends, she thought, sighing internally.

((Oh goody!))
Medea sat down in the row behind Lyra, slightly to the right. She smiled at Anni, but discreetly put her books on the desk on her left, saving it for Avery.

"I don't know," she whispered back. "He was acting kind of odd after Lyra said - that stuff, then he said he couldn't come to class." Medea shrugged.

"I don't know," Medea said honestly. "I don't know him that well. He doesn't like me very much."

((Lol.))
Anni shrugged. "Me either." She blushed. "Not about the not liking you part, you seem very nice, just the not knowing him very well."

"Thanks," Medea said. She smiled quickly. "He just doesn't seem like the type to invite in close friendships. But he'll probably be ok."

((Pooish. I totally missed everyone! What class is it right now?))
Caleb sat in relative silence. He hadn't spoken up during the conversation/argument, since he always seemed to make it worse. Now he was deep in thought. So much more of how Akririos acted made sense now. How horrible. My mother isn't dead, just sort of asleep. And at least I know my father always loves me.
Avery came back from the bathroom (where he'd spent most of the last class, missing the whole fiasco), caught up to the group and filed in next to Medea and Anni. "Hey. Um... Did I miss anything important?" He noticed their strange expressions. "Everything okay?"

Medea smiled at Avery. "Well, I met Akrisios officially," she said uncertainly. "And Anni. You know Anni, right? And , well, Lyra and Akrisios had a little...spat. He wasn't being very nice, and she ran out, then came back and said something about - his dead mother and abusive father,"she finished in a rush. "Then he got angry and left. He hasn't come back."

"I know," Medea said sadly. "I feel bad for him. I didn't realize that he - that his mother is dead."

((HI!!! Ah! Poor Akrisios! I love him soooo much right now... He needs brownies super bad.))
"Me neither," Avery muttered. "That's... pretty awful."

"Yeah. It's kind of... Well, tragic." Medea looked down. "I bet that's why he yelled at me yesterday when I ran into him and Lyra," she muttered to herself.
Avery nodded vaguely. "Yeah. I feel kind of bad now... Y'know, for hating him so much. He didn't deserve it."
Shaking off his shock and sympathy, Caleb realized he had left Lyra sitting alone. Maybe she wants to be alone? He wondered. I'll at least ask. He figured she was upset after... the whole fight. "Lyra?" He asked quietly, moving to stand by her. "This seat taken?"

"Mmmmhmm," Medea said. She realized that she hadn't mentioned her conversation with Caleb. "Oh yeah, Avery, I met Caleb," she said hesitantly.

Avery jumped slightly. "Oh... You did," he said quietly, a hint of bitterness and something else in his voice. "And what did you think of him?"

Caleb was able to muster a slight smile. "Great, I was worried I'd be left with the Hufflepuffs for company," he said softly, hoping to diffuse some of the tension, then letting that idea go as he saw how upset Lyra really was. He pulled his chair in as he sat down and leaned on his elbows. "Want to talk about it?"
Avery smiled genuinely. "That's happened more that you'd think. Even for twins." He sighed. "Yeah, he's nice. Probably nicer than me. I don't care, though."
Caleb let out a small sigh. "So you feel like everyone sees you as the bad guy in all this, but you're not. Neither of you really is." He gave Lyra a gentle pat on the back. "It wasn't your fault that things turned out this way. Things just went downhill quickly," he said quietly. "I'd say to just wait a little while if you want to apologize. Eventually he might let you."
Caleb shrugged slightly. "I'd say it's best to be optimistic and hope it'll be sooner." He leaned against the wooden table. "And, if not, I'm sure you'll find a way to get him the message. You're resourceful."
Caleb shook his head. "That's not true," he said insistently. "For one thing, I don't hate you. And plenty of people would be worse off without you."
"You couldn't know that for sure, though," Caleb persisted. "No one knows what would happen if they'd never existed."
Caleb turned his attention to the Professor, hoping he'd finally gotten through to Lyra.
((I'm probably going rather soon... I'm very tired. Not yet, though.))
((I'm probably going rather soon... I'm very tired. Not yet, though.))
((Oh... I'm sorry.))
Caleb wrote down the information quickly with his pen and paper. He couldn't use a quill for the life of him, and it seemed ridiculous to attempt to do so. He also didn't approve of parchment, which requires the deaths of animals to manufacture. So he wrote with his normal muggle tools, finding it slightly odd to pen magical notes on them.
((Okay. I'm going. Night! Good luck with your homework...))

Medea shook her head. "Nah, not really." She smiled tightly. "He was friendly, but I'm glad I'm friends with you." She realized that the teacher was starting, so she turned to face the board. She hurried to copy down notes, craning her neck to look at the fire crab as she did so.

"So, Professor, it kills the creature to take its shell?" Caleb asked, unsure if he was understanding correctly. He felt sick inside at the thought.
((ALYSSA!! LITTLEDOLPHIN!!))
Avery smiled slightly. "Well, thank you," he said quietly, giving Caleb a glance as he asked a question. Yes, Caleb. Wasn't that obvious? He took down a few notes.

"Well, if they're being killed for their shells and kept as pets, how many are left in the wild?" Medea asked in concern.
((HII!!!! I'm sorry, I have to go for General Conference again. Be back in two hours! I hope you're both still here!))
Caleb nodded, his insides twisting. That's awful. He felt a prickling on the back of his neck and saw Avery looking at him with a slightly demeaning expression. Caleb gave him a gentle, questioning smile, tilting his head. Avery shook his and dropped his gaze. Maybe it was just desperate hope, but Caleb thought it was slightly less angry than usual.
