Stacie Vetsch I'm looking for new books to expand my reading, so if anyone has any that they would recommend I would appreciate it! I'm up for just about anything. :D

My favorites of late were The Help and The Book of Lost Things. But I'm not sure what you mean by expanding your reading - trying to catch up on Classics or a specific genre? More non-fiction? Historical journies?

message 8: by Stacie (new)

Stacie Vetsch Well, The Help is on my list of books to read, but I guess I don't really know what I'm looking for either. Last year, I read all of the Jodi Picoult books, which were amazing! I also read the Twilight series and The House of Night series. Both of those were intriguing and fun to read as well. I'm looking for books with substance and maybe out of the ordinary. I just ordered the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series to see if that interests me, but I have been trying to find some Classics that may keep me interested as well. I don't necessarily have a specific genre that I've been reading, but rather I read any books that sound intriguing whether they are non-fiction or fiction.

Molly | 330 comments The Help fits your request. You would probably enjoy The Lovely Bones too.

message 10: by Stacie (new)

Stacie Vetsch I read The Lovely Bonesin 7th Grade and I absolutely loved it! I can't wait to go see the movie.

Stacie Vetsch The Time Traveler's Wife I thought was really good! I read it in Dec. 2009. I haven't heard of The Handmaid's Tale ...that will be one I'll have to look in to! Thanks for the suggestions.

Stacie Vetsch #27 The Lost Symbol
The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon, #3) by Dan Brown

This book was amazing! I've seen the last two movies that were made based upon the Dan Brown books, but this is the first one I read. I finished it in a matter of 3 days which is surprising considering how busy I am. If you're looking for more of a mystery, it would be great. I couldn't put it down!

message 27: by Desi (new)

Desi If you liked this book I would highly recommend reading Angels and Demons and the DaVinci Code. They were even better than this one, and better than the movies as well.

message 28: by Stacie (new)

Stacie Vetsch Unfortunately, I've never been able to read books AFTER watching the movie. They seem to bore me since I know what is going to happen. I always try to read the books first (I think the books are ALWAYS better), but I didn't know that the previous movies were based on books. I found out after watching the second movie. Thanks for the suggestion!

Stacie Vetsch #28 The Bright Forever
The Bright Forever by Lee Martin

I read this book because it was supposed to be similar to, The Lovely Bones, which I loved. Unfortunately, I found this book to be slow moving and didn't seem to have much of a purpose. I'm a little disappointed.

Stacie Vetsch #29 Running with Scissors
Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs

This book was amazing! I can't believe the situations that were described and what this boy went through. I recommend this book to everyone. It was an easy read that I finished in about a day.

Stacie Vetsch #30 The Undomestic Goddess
The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

Another quick and easy read! A book that shows the conflicts a person experiences while trying to balance work and love. A book that shows how a new experience can open your eyes to something you never would have imagined. Great read and the author is amazing. I will probably be picking up one of her other books in the future.

Stacie Vetsch #31 The Heart Mender: A Story of Second Chances
[image error]

This is a great book with a little bit for everyone. It has mystery, suspense, love, war and everything in between. It was a fast read and the author did a great job of depicting the time period of WWII in America. This is a (somewhat) true story that warms the heart and reminds us all how important it is to forgive people and continue on with our lives happy and free from the burden of blame.

Stacie Vetsch #32 Asking for Trouble
Asking for Trouble by Elizabeth Young

This book took me quite a while to read! I usually read one a week at least, but this one took me two because every time I picked it up I feel asleep. I just couldn't get into the story it seemed very slow, but I finished it!

Stacie Vetsch #33 House Rules
House Rules by Jodi Picoult

Another amazing read from Jodi Picoult! This book is one of the best that I have read from her. I love how she always finds a way to give us more information about a topic while still writing an intriguing story. In this case, the book is about a boy who has Asperger's syndrome who is accused of murder. It puts an interesting perspective on the lives of those who may be living with a form of autism. I definitely recommend this book!

Stacie Vetsch #34 Sundays at Tiffany's
Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson

This is the first James Patterson book that I picked up to read. I found it at a library book sale, and decided that since so many people find his books interesting I would take a chance with it. I think I have found another truly dedicated writer to continue reading books from! Patterson has a way of writing the story that doesn't make you want to put the book down. I read this book in two days because it was so interesting and I couldn't wait to see how it ends. It was mysterious and yet romantic. I fell in love with this book!

Stacie Vetsch #35 Jail Bertie and the Peanut Ladies
Jail Bertie and the Peanut Ladies by Dolores J. Wilson

Easy read and a pretty good book. I didn't like how much the story seemed to jump around. It didn't flow as nicely as other books and there seemed to be pointless information intertwined, but it was funny in parts and definitely a fast read. I finished it in two days.

Stacie Vetsch #36 The Reader
The Reader by Bernhard Schlink

This was a very intriguing book full of questions. It made me question a lot of things, but the somewhat romantic quality of the book was heartwarming and sad at the same time. It was an excellent choice and most definitely interesting.

Stacie Vetsch #37 The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner An Eclipse Novella by Stephenie Meyer

If you liked the Twilight series and you are looking for something else related to read... I would suggest this book. It is a fast, short, and easy read and delves deeper into the life of the "new" vampire Bree Tanner. Definitely interesting to read this part of the Eclipse novel from a different perspective. Also, it is available until July 5th for free online at www.breetanner.com

Stacie Vetsch #38 Carrie Pilby
Carrie Pilby (Red Dress Ink (Numbered Paperback)) by Caren Lissner

Carrie Pilby is an interesting character in this book. Throughout the book she finally realizes what she has been missing and how she can be happy with her life. This book is about realizing that you need to find out who you truly are and make decisions based upon your own morals rather than society's. It is an easy read and keeps you interested throughout the book. It is amazing to see the social difficulties that a person can have based upon their own life experiences.

Stacie Vetsch #39 The Firm
The Firm by John Grisham

BEST book I've read in a while! This is the first Grisham novel that I've picked up, and I can't wait to read more! The mystery and suspense that surrounded the characters was amazing. I finished this book in a day because I couldn't bring myself to put it down! I recommend this to anyone interested in mystery, suspenseful, and law-related novels.

Stacie Vetsch #40 The Partner

The Partner by John Grisham

Another great Grisham novel! Definitely a little different from The Firm, but I love that these books are law-related. I would recommend this book in a heartbeat.

I just wish it didn't take so long to get through! Long hours at work have prevented me from reading as much as I would like...

I think his first book "A Time to Kill" (which got very little attention until after The Firm hit it big) is his best legal thriller.

Chris - I haven't read that one! I'll have to see if I can find it at the library.

Stacie Vetsch #41 The Tale of Halcyon Crane
The Tale of Halcyon Crane by Wendy Webb

Very quick read! I picked this book up for a book club, and read it in about three hours! I just couldn't put it down. I recommend picking this one up :)

Stacie Vetsch #42 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson

This book started off a little slow for my taste. It took a little time to get into it, but once it finally picked up it was a quicker read. I read the last 250 pages this morning because I couldn't put it down!

I will be reading the next book in the series. I guess we'll see if it starts in the same slow way.

Stacie Vetsch #43My Summer of Southern Discomfort
My Summer of Southern Discomfort by Gayle, Stephanie

This was a slow read. It didn't flow as nicely as other books that I have read, and the ending didn't make as much sense as I hoped. Not a horrible book, but if I have the choice I wouldn't read it again.

Stacie Vetsch #44 Torn Apart: The Heartbreaking Story of a Childhood Lost
Torn Apart The Heartbreaking Story of a Childhood Lost by James Patterson

AMAZING book by James Patterson! True story, and I couldn't put it down. I started it early today and just kept on reading until I was done. Heartbreaking yet uplifting story of survival of Cory, a child with Tourette Syndrome, OCD, and anxiety disorder. Definitely an book I would recommend to others!

Hi Stacie, it's the same for me. The first 100 pages when I read this book was slow, but after that i can't put it down.. I've read the second book, the girl who played with fire, it's as good as the first one, fast paced and unputdownable..

That's good to hear! Maybe I'll have to pick up the second one next! I have it here, but I've been reading other books in between.

Stacie Vetsch #45 When It Happens
When It Happens by Susane Colasanti

Interesting book. Meant more for those in High School, but still a fast-paced easy read. Basically tells a story of finding love while in High School, and choosing not to settle.
