Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Lance, Unconscious is not great. Ugh. Glad she's basically okay.

Yes. I am an Oscars junkie. I watch every year and watch quite a bit of the pre show stuff too. It's my big tv day of the year. I love musicals and movie music so I loved this year's theme.

I know, it made me physically sick almost (I don't generally trust animal control or so-called conservation officers for obvious reasons, we once called about an injured raccoon and they also simply killed the poor thing).

I'm glad your wife's ok Lance. Tripping over things seems to be catching, sigh (I tripped over a power bar and fell on my face yesterday as well, but I just hit my cheek on the edge of my desk, your wife's tumble seems to have been a bit more serious, make she she does take it easy).

Thanks Gundula. I must go and check that concrete pathway tomorrow. If it's damaged, I stand to be sued by the local council!

So, yesterday we picked up our two new foster kitties! They are six month old sibings, one ginger boy we've named George and a black and white girl we've named Kimiko. George didn't let me get much sleep last night, he's very chatty and full of personality. Kimiko is still getting the lay of the land and I haven't heard a peep out of her yet. We're working with a local rescue called Abandoned Cats Rescue. I'm already quite attached to them both after only 18 hours. Our older cat is quite grumpy about the new additions. He's been hissing and growling at the poor babes. I wish I knew how to get him to calm down but I guess it will take time. I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday!

Although your kittens sound great!

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Yes, the dog will happen eventually if I have anything to say about it. And I do! But, my daughter and husband have a preference for cats (I love them too) so we're fostering with a local rescue.

I added their photos to my profile.

message 12964: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Lee, Oh, I didn't realize you're fostering them. They are adorable. Someone is going to adopt them soon, if your family doesn't decide to do that.

message 12965: by Lance (new)

Lance Greenfield (lancegreenfieldmitchell) | 697 comments When you eventually get your dog, Lee, I stick by my original recommendation: I don't think that you can do better for a first dog than a border collie. They are so intelligent and easily trained. In fact, I think that they train their owners, and are often more intelligent than a lot of humans I know!

message 12966: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Border collies are wonderful, but because they are so intelligent they need a lot of attention and "jobs" to do. Otherwise they get bored easily. So house dog border collies need a lot of attention. They are great dogs though.

Whoopeeee! I have my season three copy of Downton Abbey home from the library and am going to watch right now!

message 12970: by [deleted user] (new)

Enjoy, Lee! I absolutely loved season three.

message 12971: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Oh, I liked parts of season 3 but not all of it. Would love to discuss it with you Lee, when you've watched it, especially after episode 4 and the last episode.

message 12972: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Another weekend just zoomed by. I would do anything to work only 4 days :(

Lee, so excited to read about your foster kitties - unfortunately I'm only getting the little red x's from my work computer so I will have to wait until I get home to see them. I'm not sure you can get them to calm down, just the kitten nature. There is something called "Rescue Remedy" or "Feliway" that some people use and swear by but I did not notice a difference when I tried it years ago.

We are getting a new sofa bed delivered later this afternoon. Excited for that - but I'm sure the cats won't be happy with it - they so hate change!!

Happy Monday all!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Diane, Smart kitties. Another piece of comfortable furniture to claim. I wish you could work only 4 days too, as long as your long days were no longer than they already are.

message 12976: by Lance (new)

Lance Greenfield (lancegreenfieldmitchell) | 697 comments We had a ginger tom when I was about ten. He was called pandai: Malay for clever.

Then we had a seal point Siamese called susu: Malay for milk.

Jack claimed it more than anyone! I will try to send you a video clip later on -- so funny! We got it so dad will have a comfortable place to sleep when he visits since we are only a one bedroom apt.

Yes, the last scene was too much. I think there was enough tragedy without adding that.

100% agree, but it's obvious why they did both those things. I still am sad.

Lance Greenfield (lancegreenfieldmitchell) | 697 comments I felt the need to share this with you from my Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation calendar.

6 March 2013
Beachcomber's (invented) Law of Conservation of Apostrophes ("a heresy since the 13th century") states that a balance exists in nature: "For every apostrophe omitted from an it's, there is an extra one put into an its." Thus the number of apostrophes in circulation remains constant, even if this means we have to double the number of reasons to go and bang our heads against a brick wall.

message 12993: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks For anyone who enjoys Canadian country/folk music, it is a sad day today as Stompin' Tom Connors passed away yesterday.

I fondly remember seeing him in concert and and his Canadian songs like "Bud the Spud" "Tilsonburg" etc. etc. were and still are wonderful, expressive and real story songs.

I also love the fact that in lieu of flowers, his family has asked for donations to homeless shelters and food banks (and his memorial service is going to be open to the public, as per Stompin' Tom's wishes).

RIP Stompin' Tom, you will be missed (but your legacy will live on).

Gundula, You could always go for another degree. Ha! You should be proud of all you've accomplished.

message 12995: by Tim (new)

Tim | 127 comments Thanks everybody! I've got a fair bit before I can submit because the committee wanted some new work done, but it's not hard, it will just take some time.

Gundula, I certainly do feel wonderful, relieved, and a bit sad about the end of university. That said, my friends have finished and moved on so I'm looking forward to doing something new.

Stompin' Tom is dead? There's so many of his songs that I love, so the thought that people won't get to hear him perform them live anymore makes me sad.

I still feel like doing another degree, sigh.

Hope the new work is not too much for you (and I hope that the demands were and are reasonable).

I am pretty sad about Stompin Tom, but he has left a wonderful legacy (but nothing ever cam close to watching him perform live, he was such a character and his shows just rocked).

message 12997: by Tim (new)

Tim | 127 comments The requests are all reasonable and I understand why they made them, so it's not a big problem. The work will take a bit of time, but I'm hoping to be done the end of March or early April.

As much as I'd like to do another degree (and I do want to do one), I've been at university for far too long and need to get a job.

There's a 1973 concert film of Stompin' Tom on YouTube called "Across this Land".

Lance Greenfield (lancegreenfieldmitchell) | 697 comments Today is Mother's Day in UK. I don't know about your part of the world, as it varies from country to country.

Unfortunately, my Mum died about 14 years ago, but today makes me value any time that I can spend with my Dad, whom I love.

My Mum died in 1999 aged 65. My Step-dad, whom I loved as much as a Dad, died in 1985, aged only 56. My sister and I bind our sibling love together by wearing their wedding bands (rings). I cannot tell you how distraught I was when I thought I'd lost my ring in the park recently. Happily it turned up before I told my sister.

But I regret time that I didn't spend with my Mum while she was alive. Especially today. You can see her photo in my profile, and read a funny story involving her in my profile writings (see Hitchcock story).

Because my Mum and Dad split, acrimoniously, when I was very young, and the courts banned my Dad from seeing me (without ever asking MY opinion!), I had a 14 year void of contact with my Dad. Happily we got back together, when I was in my late twenties.

So now you know exactly why I value every moment that I can spend with him.

Anyway, as a tribute to my Mum on Mother's Day, I have added her epitaph, which I wrote within hours of her death, amongst my writings on my profile. Check it out by following this link.
