Simran, we were expecting a jazz concert, but Endre got the dates mixed up so we ended up see an R&B band and they were excellent and alot of fun! Lots of folks up dancing and singing because it was all music from the 60s and 70s! Right up us mature folks alley!

Yes, it was outdoors - and it was a really pretty day, sunshine and comfy temps!

Oh, now you've done it, Dianne. A pretty, sunshiney, and warm day.........I'm so envious. I have the thickest socks imaginable on and my feet are still freezing here. :-)

Lance Greenfield (lancegreenfieldmitchell) | 697 comments Imagine how it feels to read this at 05:45 in cold, damp, dark, flood-ridden England, as u prepare to set off for a 6 km run before my long drive to work!

Wonderful, actually.

Thanks Diane. I'll have these images of you all dancing at a nice, warm outdoor concert as I run down a dark Hampshire lane. You have put a spring in my step!

message 12805: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) LOL, sorry friends :) Lance, if you could me dance - you'd have more than a spring in your step - you'd be ROTFL (rolling on the floor laughing!)

message 12806: by Lance (new)

Lance Greenfield (lancegreenfieldmitchell) | 697 comments People say that about my [great-granddad] dancing too, Diane!

But I love trad jazz and I can get away with, "It's my unique style of improvisation!"

message 12808: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (stewartry) One more note in my Ongoing Saga ... Mom's home and doing well, and just as I was thinking we could settle down and cope with the adjustments all of this has resulted in, a letter arrived from the agency that reviewed our appeal to the denial of admissions. Despite what I was told - by a rep from that agency - we are responsible for the hospital bill. The whole bill. All six days. Which is actually really funny; my wild guess at the total is that it'll be about $15K. It might as well be fifteen million; we'll never be able to pay it. But it looks like the next round of the fight is only just about to begin, and I'm so tired ...

Even if this might backfire, Tracey, I think it is now high time to not only contact the media, but to publicly name and shame.

And just tell them you won't pay criminals.

message 12810: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (stewartry) Unfortunately, it's Medicare, not the hospital, which is the criminal. And the physical therapist who started this whole week of hell was criminally stupid - my mother never had any of the medical requirements to be admitted to the hospital, whatever that woman thought. They won't just randomly admit you - you have to require surgery or intravenous medication or fluid. What they kept telling us was that her needs could be met in other ways, and everyone else kept telling us to fight it, DON'T take her home - and the result is going to be a bill that will probably be half a year's salary. I'm not angry at the hospital - except that they should have told us "You do know you're responsible for the whole stay if they deny your appeal, right?" I'm not even that angry at Medicare; there has been a lot of fraud. We even saw how it could happen - the doctors and nurses were looking for any reason to keep Mom in, and I'd bet a few years ago they would have "found" some reason. At this very moment I'm livid with the person who started all of this by flying off the handle and sending Mom back to the hospital. She tried to "help", and in the end there has been no benefit achieved that couldn't have been gotten - better - at home: she did a lot of harm.

I'm just finishing up the first letters - to the physical therapist's boss, and HER boss, and a copy to our congresswoman. Once we know exactly where we stand we'll take it further. Between what I've been writing here and other emails and this letter, the blog post I've been talking about will be mostly written. Then we'll see what comes next.

So basically, her "help" was no help at all, sigh. And her incompetence is not only going to cost you monetarily, it might also make you be considered "complainers" and the like by the hospital, by Medicare (your mother must be furious as well, sigh). Good luck, I wish there was something I could do to help.

message 12812: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Oh my gosh, Tracey, my heart goes out to you. Truly :(

As for me, I am taking a trip to Boston the end of the week to visit my mom. It will be quick, red eye Thursday and back to LA on Monday.

We went out to eat at a great seafood restaurant for dinner on Christmas Eve. Then we drove around a little to look at Christmas lights - there is a neighborhood nearby where everyone participates and it is lovely. Lots of cars driving by to see it. Christmas Day we just relaxed. Watched Christmas movies and a couple of Mad Men episodes on DVD. How did you celebrate?

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Sounds like a lovely day, Joy.

We had 8 people for dinner. Some family members and a few friends. We played crazy 8's after dinner and Horse-opoly which is what I gave my daughter for Christmas. Actually, we've been playing it non-stop ever since. She loves board games AND card games.

I'm about to start crocheting some leg warmers. I don't have snow pants and I'm going to be standing vigil outside a slaughterhouse for a couple of hours tomorrow. I haven't attempted a crochet project in over a year, so this will be interesting!

message 12822: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Good luck with the crocheting, Lee. Either way be sure to wear something warm. Thank you for the activism!!! You're brave with that one; that's one thing I've never done.

And considering that we are supposed to be getting over 20 cm of snow today and maybe even tomorrow, wow, that is brave in so many ways.

Thanks for the support, ladies. This particular slaughterhouse has the capacity to kill 45,000 baby pigs per week. I don't know if they're operating at full capacity but we feel it's important to bear witness as the trucks go in. And there is a lot of car traffic at the intersection where we stand with our signs. We get lots of honks in support and of course the occasional person screaming at us about how he loves bacon.

I have all my yarn and crochet hooks ready to go but have gotten sidetracked and sucked into reading and writing Goodreads reviews!

My friend Coleen is a true superhero, she's out every week, all year round braving the elements on behalf of the animals.

message 12826: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Hi everyone, I have been out of town/touch with some personal matters but I am back home now. I hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas if you celebrate that holiday.

Lee, I am sorry to read about the slaughterhouse and cheers to you and all that are standing up for those with no voice.

I thought I'd ask if there has there been any word at all from Dawn while I've been out of touch?

message 12827: by Lisa (new)

So happy to see your post. I've been avoiding inundating you with emails.

Nothing at all from Dawn or Ron, no.

Lance Greenfield (lancegreenfieldmitchell) | 697 comments Lee - amazing productivity! To crochet your leg warmers from start to finish in one day is shocking!

And well done to you for your continued campaigning.

Sad news - my dear Uncle Chris died on Christmas day. He'd been ill for some time but, in his true, caring spirit, he'd been keeping it a secret from most of the family. He was such a lovely man.

Lance Greenfield (lancegreenfieldmitchell) | 697 comments My [Step-]Dad, Chris's brother, died at the relatively young age of 56. He was even lovelier.

It is complete! Dave has worked his magic, and this is the result.

The pink triangles will be white when the boiling blood calms down. Perhaps I'll post another image when it is ready to display.

Somebody will ask where on my body this fine emblem appears. The answer is: at the top of my left arm.

When are we going to see yours, Lee?

I went to bed early last night, nursing a stupid head cold. Although I did not see the fireworks on Sydney Harbour, we live close enough to the city that I could hear them.
