Brian Rowe | 3 comments Hello all! Nice to be here. What's your favorite of the Harry Potter books? I'd have to say Goblet of Fire :)

My favorite is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but I have very fond feelings for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone/Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. And, because it ties the whole story together I also love Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. My least favorite is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the only one I almost didn't give 5 stars too, but I did; I do consider them all one story/one book.

Jasja | 19 comments Hello to everyone I didn't say no to yet! =oD

And now you have me wanting to read the Harry Potter books again... but I suppose I better finish the books I started first. I think my favourite Harry Potter books would have to be the first 2, because they introduced me to the world of wizzardy, Diagon Alley, Hogwarts and our young wizzards.

Maxine | 2 comments Hi, I'm Maxine , I'm Canadian, and I'm a book addict. As for comfort books, normally I would have said that nothing beats Jane Austen. Lately, though, after a tragedy in my family, I've been reading a lot of fantasy. Weirdly enough, I rarely read it before but now I devour the stuff. I especially enjoy the YA series like Ranger's Apprentice and Percy Jackson but pretty much any fantasy will do. It may not be great literature but, trust me, it's not only comfort, it's comforting.

message 1056: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Hi Maxine. Yay, another Canadian. I'm U.S. but I'm a Canada fan, and the other mod here is Canadian.

So sorry you're going through a time of grief, but isn't it wonderful to find books to help us through tough times?!

message 1057: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments I agree with Lisa and see the Harry Potter books as one book so 5 stars for me. Maxine have you tried a series called Fablehaven it looked to be promising. Unfortunately, my book store didn't have a copy in at the moment but it may be worth a look.

message 1058: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Kelly Hi All!

I'm the author of, Don't Tell Your Cousin, (eBook, available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble).

It's a tale of a twisted and steamy love triangle involving two cousins and a married man, a grisly love affair full of deceit, mayhem, and shameful women. As the mountain of lies come tumbling down and the drama unfolds, Amanda is forced to hold a mirror to herself and come to terms with a reflection she struggles to accept.

I appreciate the support!

Thanks,
Veronica E. Kelly

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Hi, Veronica. Welcome to the group. We do ask that members participate as reader members if they're going to mention their own books. And we do have an "Author's Corner" folder (in alphabetical order) if you want to talk about your book, but please participate as a reader first. Thanks.

alicia grant (shesha556) Hello I'm Alicia I live in Illinois in a northwest suburb of Chicago. This seemed like a fun and different group so I figured I would join. Comfort reads to me are quick cozy mysteries,a good horror story, or paranormal series. I love witches, vampires, and so much more. I guess I really have a very wide range of comfort. As long as it's a book it's comforting to me.

message 1062: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Hello, Alicia. Welcome to the group! You should fit in really well. Our members have many different genres for their comfort reads, including the ones you mentioned. Hope you enjoy the group!

Irene (smilingi) | 6 comments Hi my name is Irene, I am from a small town north of Toronto, Ontario in Canada. I love to read. I am really enjoying this website. It is great to be in among people who enjoy reading. Who have as many books and more than I do. I have learned about new authors, always looking for those. I actually spent some the last week organizing my bookshelves. What a treat, found some hidden treasures.

message 1068: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome, Irene! Check out the discussion threads and the group's bookshelves for even more suggestions. :)

And lots of others...

I love the James Herriot books. Have you watched the TV series? Although I must say that the Yorkshire dialect can be a bit hard to understand.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Hi. Claire. Welcome to the group. I hope we can help you find some more books to read and hope that you enjoy our discussions.

Also, we're happy to add French language books to our shelves if you add any of them as books that have been comfort reads for you.

Hello and welcome Claire! I loved My Family and Other Animals but I haven't read the following books yet. Are they all equally good?

message 1078: by Readingcureall (new)

Readingcureall New member intro. here, Wow what a perfect group name. I find reading really does give comfort. For me it "curesall" I love to read for fun when ever I can. I home school 4 kids , some have medical issues so I do a lot of reading that is not so fun too.
Fave comfort books Oh that is hard... My kids and I love "Is your mamma a lamma", I love for them I Knew You Could" by Platt.
I love mystery, and real life based books the most. I really enjoyed a book Megan's Way a while back and I heard the Author Melissa Foster has a new book out I will probably read that since I enjoyed Megan's way so much. But I can not say I stick to any 1 Author . What about all of you?

Welcome Readingcureall!

I homeschool my daughter too as do a few of our other members. I don't know if I have a favourite comfort read book but I do enjoy a variety of comfort read genres. I like speculative fiction, mysteries, thrillers, historical fiction, biographies and the odd paranormal or urban fantasy if it's well written. I guess it just depends on my mood.

I hope you find some great books on our shelves and threads!

message 1080: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Hi, Readingcurall,

Love your name!

We're an eclectic group here and I have eclectic tastes. Take a look at our bookshelves & discussion threads and you'll see many different books & genres represented.

message 1081: by Readingcureall (new)

Readingcureall Oh thanks for the warm welcome. I am still trying to get the hang of the site and all that jazz. But I think it will b very fun once I do. Mod mamma The book I finished "Megan's way" had some paranormal twists in it as well as romance. I usually do not go for any kind of psychic or ghost stuff. lol Scary. But this was really good attention gripping and did not scare me a bit. My husband teases me because I will not watch anything with ghost but serial killers I will watch.
I also read a varied array of books and subjects. Did any of you homeschoolers watch the bald eagles hatch and research them?

message 1082: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you mean the bald eagles in Iowa? I checked in a few times, but the eagle was on the nest, hanging on in the wind we had.

message 1083: by Readingcureall (new)

Readingcureall Yes I did, We watched. We were addicted ! The kids were shocked to find out facts like the nest weighs a ton and is 6 ft deep and 6 ft across. WOW! Impressive. lol It is fun to watch the kids get into things. When so often I have to try to make them get into the "boring stuff. Plus some of mine are reluctant readers for pleasure so it was a great chance for them to enjoy reading stuff.

message 1084: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Readingcureall, This is the first time I heard about the eagles. What do the eagles use to make the nest that would weigh a ton? Do you know? Very interesting. And a lovely welcome to you!

message 1085: by [deleted user] (new)

Here is the link to the live camera. The babies are pretty big now!

I think there is more info about the project and the eagles on this page, too.

message 1086: by Readingcureall (new)

Readingcureall Us homeschoolers! lol DO we ever stop learning? Reading? lol It is great but can b over whelming too for me at least.

message 1087: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Watterson (lisabw) | 1 comments Hi my name is Lisa and I just found this website and this group and asked to join. I LOVE books and reading but I have to say my all time favourite comfort books are anything by Agatha Christie. Her books are so much fun that I can re-read them over, and over.Of course I love so many other authors as well but she is my favourite.

message 1088: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Hi, Lisa. Welcome to the group, and to Goodreads. And, by the way, this is a public group so you don't have to ask to join; any Goodreads' member is welcome here. I love Agatha Christie's books too. We have a Mysteries folder here, which has a few threads.

Feel free to check out all our discussion threads, bookshelves, and polls.

Hope you have fun here in this group and on the Goodreads site.

message 1089: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to the group, Lisa! That's one of the great things about Christie's books, they're fun to read over and over again!
