Wow! Five 4-star books in a row! I am a happy camper (reader)! What a wonderful streak!
(80) 4/22/10 "The Adventures of Goodnight & Loving" by Leslie Thomas (***1/2)
I'm not going to count these 2 picture books, but wow, they were cute!
"Bats At The Library" and
"Bats At The Beach"
(86) 4/29/10 "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" by Douglas Adams (***)For some odd reason GR won't allow me to add a picture here? Weird!
I have been trying to track down a copy of the book "Cold Comfort Farm" (One of my favorite movies). Is this Gibbons outing as hilarious?
Cindi, it is not quite as hilarious, and due to the subject matter may seem a little more dated, but it was still very funny, especially the last part of the book where all the ends were tied up. I really enjoyed it--I love Gibbons' humor.I don't think readers who aren't Anglophiles or used to reading 'antique' books would get as much out of it. I think since she was writing satire/social commentary, you'd have to be aware of the time period to 'get' some of the humor.
Hmmm...I hope I'm explaining that? It's hard to put how I feel about books into words sometimes.
(90) 5/4/10 "The Mysterious Howling: The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place" by MaryRose Wood (***1/2)[image error]
I am a huge fan of British comedy of manners (particularly Wodehouse & Wilde). It is so difficult to find humor that is also intelligent and witty. I'm definitely adding this to my "To Read" list!
