anyway, :P It's because the Sun can be considered as holy, and the vampire unholy, so, therefore, the vampire can not venture into the sun. The same applies for crosses. The garlic, though, had been a common charm used in midevil times to ward off evil spirits, the ill-effects to a harmful spell, etc. Because of this, it was adopted that garlic would also, therefore, ward of the vampire.

Tiffany (vampoholic) | 1279 comments ok everybody, out of all the different myths and legends around about vampire nowadays, which do u think is closest to the truth?

message 110: by Thomas (last edited Jan 20, 2010 09:16AM) (new)

Thomas (artangel) | 1062 comments None! Of all the references i've seen none that refers to Lilith and her legend as the true mother of all vampires.Lilith was actually made a human and tuned into a demon after she sinned. She was the first to sire a Vampire. The first true Vampire, Half Devil... Half Human. Since she was a demon when she gave birth... it is obvious that she was still using the human body she had before which was by then, dead. Nothing is still known about the name or where they were. But it was the great flood that wiped out the entire vampire race(the Nephilim race were wiped out as well). but their legends and the knowledge of their existence were saved by the humans who were spared by God.

on a different note, Nephilim were the race of giants... half-human half-angel. They were the first true shape-shifter. Contrary to popular belief of the word, 'Were' being only used for Werewolves. There are accounts in different parts of the world about these shape-shifters changing into different animals. It was choice on the shifters part that attached him to a particular species. And as with Vampire, the real truth has been twisted here as well. Werewolves are not an exclusive species. They are just a tiny part of a bigger picture. And FYI, the greatest folly on our part was that we see them in a really narrow way. Shape-shifters and Were-Wolves are alike and are the same. Its just that one chooses only one animal as its soul-shift and the other... more pure in form, can shift its soul into any animal of their choosing.

And we are talking of immortals who were wiped out by God himself here. The stories of blood thirsty Vampire kings and Killers in 'MIDEVIL'((lol! i like that version better)) times and all, just usage of the word Vampire in a metaphorical way or are just ways of showing how bad a person really was. for example, i can call a really cruel person a vampire because he lives off others misery.

And that's the whole story people. And that's the truth.

lol!! i know, i can even surprise myself sometimes. I don't know why though!

Christa (is on top of the world!) (obsesedwbooks) | 41 comments Wow. Do you know how the whole thing got started?
I saw something on the history channel(maybe it was the discovery channel) about it. Supposeably a mistess from the 18oo's hired female servents to care for her and when one servent cut herself the mistress was somehow drawn to the blood, she swept of the blood with her finger then licked it off. The creepy part is she enjoyed it, and craved more. She also thought the blood had some king of anti-aging power in it, so she drank it daily, and she even bathed in it! She killed over a dozen beutifull young maidens because of her obsession. When word finally got out, she was sentenced to spend the rest of her life wasting away in a tower.
The peasants begain to belive that vampires exsisted and would hunt anyone they were suspicious of. They used torches and wooden stakes for weapons. The show didn't mention anything about garlic so I'm assuming that wasn't used to warn off vampires from the village like some ledgends say. The most intriguing part about vampires is whether or not they really exsist. What do you think? Are they a myth, or real?

message 123: by Marielle, cool cat, good cat, pussy cat (new)

Marielle Savoie (mrsavoie) | 5497 comments Mod
hmm, Real. Deff. real. There's also those ancient Native American stories and such about blood suckers. They had to based on something, and I doubt they heard about a rich woman in England. I've actually heard that story before too. There were also a couple crazy monarchs who had the same tendancies to bathe in blood for the belief of youth and power.

Christa (is on top of the world!) (obsesedwbooks) | 41 comments Hmmm.... I wonder if it's inherited or if it's some kind of disorder. I'll have to look up more info.

Christa (is on top of the world!) (obsesedwbooks) | 41 comments I found some info take a look.

Transformation
Some say the transformation from the human state to the Vampire state takes over from anywhere between six to nine months to complete. The virus that causes vampirism resembles a more primitive virus known as a prion. Most viruses act on a host by attacking the hosts' cells and changing the DNA and making the infected cells cause a monopoly effect. The host immune system then sees these cells with a different DNA as infections and attacks them. The virus that causes vampirism works in a more efficient and organized fashion. Instead of changing the DNA of the cells, the cells are modified to a degree in which it doesn't look too alien. This is done by introducing "mini chromosomes" called plasmids which enhance the original genetic code. The hosts' immune system then overlooks these cells. When you really think of it on a basic level, the human is the host organism and the vampirism causing virus is acting on a symbiotic relationship. Thus both organisms continue to thrive with one another.

Vampire Virus Contraction
This virus may be transmitted by bodily fluids such as blood, saliva and sometimes even in semen. If transmitted by blood to a healthy host with an efficient immune system, large amounts of the virus must be either be injected or ingested. It is highly unlikely that saliva can be the cause of infection due to the small amounts of the virus in the saliva. The virus within the saliva functions to infect a bitten area and heal the punctured skin, thus leaving no trace of the event.

message 143: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Travaille (shelbyone) | 36 comments Technically everything written in the Bible was written by people, sometimes several hundred years after the supposed death of Jesus. Much has been removed from the Bible by panels of religious leaders over time, for instance reincarnation was once in the Christian religion but was removed. Anything that appears to be at odds with the teachings are removed. Apparently women still have no souls in the Catholic religion, so if some Vampires have no souls then I'm in good company.

message 144: by Marielle, cool cat, good cat, pussy cat (new)

Marielle Savoie (mrsavoie) | 5497 comments Mod
lmao, so that means were all technically vamps then? cool with that! oh, btw, this is reminding me of this book I read, Madapple, where the characters talk about Christianity and compare it to other 'pegan' religions. One of the things I learned from it was that there are other religions where virgin births happen, it was cool to find out. :) Madapple

Christa (is on top of the world!) (obsesedwbooks) | 41 comments wow no offence kristin but you write a lot! As for the whole beliving in vampires thing, I'd have to have proof of their exsistance

message 146: by Kristin (new)

Kristin E. | 26 comments lol, yea, sorry bout the all-at-once thing, but i just recntly joined and so i read every post yall have made and commented, and i totally understand the needing-proof-before-believing thing, most people say that

message 147: by Marielle, cool cat, good cat, pussy cat (new)

Marielle Savoie (mrsavoie) | 5497 comments Mod
there's proof. honest!! there is!!!There's this disease you can get, it causes eye color changes, pale skin, and the need for blood. It may not be exactly what you want, but think of it this way, after millions of years, vampires are bound to be a sort of waterd down version of what they once were.

Christa (is on top of the world!) (obsesedwbooks) | 41 comments Well I've heard about the desease but, most people just get blood transfusions, they don't actually drink blood. Plus they can go out in the sun without being burned. And what about the fangs? The only people who have fangs are the ones who get them files so they look like fangs. I'd probably have to meet a vampire in order to be convinced.

message 149: by Kristin (new)

Kristin E. | 26 comments i have real fangs, i swear they arnt the wannabe fake fangs, my fangs are longer than the rest of my teeth, like, alot longer than the rest of my teeth, and really sharp, i bite my lip and inside of my mouth all the time and start bleeding, its annoying, but they are the things i love most about my body, the make me unique, and everyone at school calls me vampire, and i kinda am, and besides, a vampire burning or sparkling in the sun is 100% myth, but some vampires do get weaker in sunlight
