Susie (designsusi) Hi, I started reading the Anita Blake series about 3 weeks ago and I finished Micah last night. The books were not high on my list but after Charlaine Harris, Kim Harrison, Jeaniene Frost, Jennifer Armintrout, Ann Aguirre and Amanda Hocking but I am so addicted to the genre that I thought I would give it a go. So now I am a Laurell fan too.

mlady_rebecca | 278 comments The next Anita is due out June 2011. It's number 20 - "Hit List". The next Merry hasn't even been worked on, but I'm guessing she's aiming on late 2011.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 52 comments Hello, I am new to the group but not to LKH...I read GUILTY PLEASURES many years ago when it was first published in paperback...it finally fell apart about 2 months ago from many rereads and I replaced it with a hardback containing the first 3 books. I only discovered the merry gentry books recently but raced through them. Like potato chips, you can't have just 1.

Krystal (krys20118) | 5 comments Hello everybody, I am thoroughly enthralled in all of LKH's books! Especially Anita, they are just so marvelous. I will read the series then go to a different book series by a different author then back to Anita. I can't wait until Hit List!!<3

Deej (disturbed) | 3 comments Hi! I've read all 19 books of the Anita Blake Series and am excited for Hit List. I am in love with Edward and Obsidian Butterfly was Awesome getting to know him more. I get super excited evertime he appears in a book. And Jason of course I wish was my bestfriend, hes sooo awesome. Laurell is my absolute favourite Author out of everyone!! It's nice to be able to talk to others who are as in love with these books just as much as I am!

message 107: by Shauna (new)

Shauna Hensley | 14 comments Hi all! I am new to the group. I was introduced by my best friend to LKH and instantly fell in love. I am on the last two books of the Anita series and getting ready to start on the Mary books. I was always a slow reader. It took me a long time to get through books but with LKH I spend as much spare time possible reading!

message 108: by Carly (new)

Carly | 3 comments Hi! I'm new to goodreads and love all things LKH. I've read all the books and can't wait for Hit List!!!

message 109: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie W. | 3 comments HI all!! :) I'm new to the series too. Another member of this group (Erin) introduced me to the series and it's great! (although, i can't say i love her more than Sookie yet Erin..i'm just two books in though LOL) I'm excited to see the group and have others to discuss the series with

Rie | 1 comments Hi! I'm new to the group. I'm in love with LKH's books! I've bought and read all her books and can't get enough of them!

message 111: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk Hello! I'm fairly new to the series too. Started with Obsidian Butterfly. Got hooked and had to start from the beginning. Would love some like minded folks to share my new obsession with.
The "Long live Anita Blake" comment got me! Lol

Cheryl aka Pashion (ExRockGoddess) | 11 comments Hello! I am new to the group but not LKH. I love her ... I reread books when I start missing my characters.
I saw in an interview with LKH that she actually has bought presents and had to return them because well..they characters don't really exist in the real world...LOL
This past Christmas I found myself thinking ... ooh wouldn't that be a good gift for ... But my reality meter kicked in and I did not actually buy anything. LOL Good thing my husband would probably have had me committed.

message 113: by Sunshine (new)

Sunshine | 3 comments Hi! I'm a new member and I am a certified "lady who loves Laurell". :) I love both the Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series! Although many people complain about the sex scenes, I still can't let go of the series and the characters I've grown to love over the years especially Jean-Claude and Asher. :) I really liked Domino too!

message 114: by Tamela (new)

Tamela (tameladb) I'm a new GoodReads member and have been checking out the groups and just HAD to join this one. I've been a fan since the first Anita Blake book came out. I also love the Graphic Novels. So fun to "see" what Laurell thinks her characters should look like.

I haven't got all the books I've read added in here. I'm thinking of doing some re-reading so that I can give a good review, and so that means it would be about the 5th or 6th time going through Anita Blake. Seems like I re-read her every couple of books or so.

The problem is I have to get my books back from my son. He borrowed mine and is now also a huge fan. We may have to arm wrestle for them? Or I might just re-purchase them for my Kindle... Yeah!!! That's the ticket!!!

message 115: by Ladyhawk (last edited Apr 17, 2011 07:04PM) (new)

Ladyhawk Hello Sunshine! Hello Tamela! Tamela, I can't believe you have read AB that many times. I'm impressed. But I can see how you would want to! Once a part of Anita's world, always apart of Anitas world!!

Sunshine, haven't read Merry Gentry but have heard good things about it. Would like more feed back on it!

Cheryl, OMG!! Buying Christmans gift for fictional characters!!?? That is a new level of obsessed even for me! Love it!! Hee hee

Keisha Fite (kfite613) | 2 comments Hello, I have been on goodread for over a little under a year now. I am new to the discussion board. I am more of a reader than a writer. I have read all of the LKH books both Anita and Meredith Series. I am now waiting for the Next Anita book with much anticipation. I am going to end my introduction with one of my favorite Anita quotes "I talk to myself every once in awhile. Give myself very good advice. Sometimes, I even take it."

message 117: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk Lol!! Hi Kfite613 (can I abbreviate that? lol). I admire anyone who has finished reading all the AB series. So someone give me some feed back on the Meredith series! Please!
And yes, new releases of a much anticipated book are always fun to look forward too! I am now reading Blue Moon and loving it!

message 118: by Shauna (new)

Shauna Hensley | 14 comments I have to say i started out slow with the merry series. Maybe cause i was slower at wrapping my brain around the characters and much different pictures it made. i don't think my mind is very imaginative sometimes but i have to say i am now on swallowing darkness and i am in love with the book and partial to the world Merry lives in now! The AB series was awesome and I love it. I can't wait to continue on with HIT LIST!!!

All I can say is the LKH will not disappoint
you in anything she writes. She is number 1 in my top 5 authors number 2 is JR Ward. And I love Merry just as much as I love Anita. If you have any questions let me know. I read all books for both and I am waiting. Ooh yeah I am in love with Doyle and you will see why.

Ladyhawk I am in love with Doyle and you will see why

Eek! Thanks for the feedback ladies! Now I'm all giddy with anticipation!
MG's world does come off as very different when I was reading synopsis of some of the books. I look forward to them but I am also glad I have so many AB books still too look forward to.

Even as I read little comments here and there about the different story lines and how rediculously dysfunctional her little family is, I'm still hooked! HA!

message 121: by K.A. (new)

K.A. (kamlady) | 3 comments Hi all! Just found this group - Laurell is a huge inspiration to me as an author - I have all of the Anita and Merry books. Have read them on more than 3 or 4 occassions. Glad I found this group before the next release - looking forward to the banter that she always seems to stir up with her next book (too much sex, not enough - too soft, not bad ass enough any more.) Personally, give me more Asher!

Blessings ~ K.

message 122: by Shauna (new)

Shauna Hensley | 14 comments ok so i finished the anita books and i am on divine misdemeanors for the merry books. I think swallowing darkness was one of my favs but not sure of the ending. I am feeling a little sad that I won't have anymore Laurell books to read for a while. =( i have been reading her books so long now. lol

message 123: by Johnna (new)

Johnna (zoeys-mom) | 15 comments I am pretty new to goodreads.com and this is my first post to this group. I am a huge fan of LKH! I got my first copy of Guilty Pleasures at age 15 and was immediately hooked. That was 16 years ago and she is still like one of the few authors I will pay hardcover prices to get the book on release day! Oddly, Obsidian Butterfly is my abs fave book of the series, and I detest whiny mosquito pest Richard!

message 124: by Ladyhawk (last edited May 20, 2011 07:04PM) (new)

Ladyhawk Hi Johnna! WOW! you have been reading LKH for a looong time! It was funny reading the first book. I just discovered them a few months ago. Was it the 80's or early 90's?? Too funny though that she just a beeper and had to rely on her answering machine. Plus was she is always decribed as wearing. lol But that stuff didn't scare me away. I'm now hooked on AB too!

message 125: by A.carter (new)

A.carter | 1 comments Hello all. New goodreads member and had to join this group as soon as i read the title. I discovered anita blake last year and fell in love with her world. Anita was exactly what i needed in a book series. Now that im waiting for the next book, im reading thru the merry gentry series. Im on book4 in the merry series where doyle just confessed his love for her. I knew there was some softness within the hard shell he portrays for everyone.

message 126: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk Hi A. Carter! Nice to meet you! I'm still working my way through the series!!

message 130: by Heather (new)

Heather | 2 comments Hello! I love both series and have reread them several times as well :) I am counting down to the 14th! I was going to try to hold off reading the first chapter but could not help myself.

message 131: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra (sheadazed) | 11 comments I did the same! I tried not to read the first chapter but I couldn't... stop... my fingers... from... clicking. *guilty face*

message 132: by Yogi (new)

Yogi (deanders) Hello everyone! My name is Devan, pronounced Devin, and yes I'm a girl. : D I'm a huge PNR and UF fan. Really I love books with strong heriones who have large weapons or kick ass. Books with hot sex scenes are also my thing. I'm a Kindle owner with a beat-up cover from re-reading so many of my favorite series.

I live in beautiful and fabulous Portland, Oregon! On the days when it's not beautiful and fabulous, the rain and dark days keep me inside reading. I love to sew, crochet, make and drink beer, do yoga and positivity!

Hope to talk with some of you. I found Goodreads and was screaming like a little girl! I have no friend into my type of reading......my boyfriend teases me about my "vampire porn".......so I hope to get my need to talk about something I've read out in a forum. Namaste all!

message 133: by Amber (new)

Amber Galey (miss_nocturne) | 2 comments My name is Amber, and I'm addicted to Anita Blake. I love the Anita Blake stories. I have been reading it since I was a child (my mom was very lenient when it came to my love of vampires). I'm 22. Anything else that you would like to know just ask.

message 134: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk Interesting that you have been reading about Vamps since you were little. I love a good paranormal story and if that includes vamps, well than so be it, but in all reality, they do scare me!!

message 135: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1 comments Hey im new to the group but old fan :) just read Hit List was happy but not as excited as other books, love love love laurell.k.hamiltons books and a big anita blake fan.

message 136: by Mark (new)

Mark E Cooper | 12 comments I had to join this group after finishing Hit List. So many reviews are against this book, but i loved it! What happened to Olaf is going to be a great new plot line in later books, and despite the sour grapes of some readers, I think its completely logical the way Anita uses the power she gained from Obsidian Butterfly.

BTW, I'm a guy and love all Laurell's books. I keep listening to the Merry Gentry ones on my iPod. Please don't kick me out for not being one of your "ladies" Your group title seems to mean i am not welcome??

All are welcome. I imagine when the group was first formed it was all ladies, hence the name.

message 138: by Mark (new)

Mark E Cooper | 12 comments Thank heaven for that :) I am already deep in speculations about Merry Gentry :)

message 139: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk Mark, a male point of view is certainly welcome! So... since you've read 'Hit List' does that mean you have read all the preceding Anita Blake Novels??

I myself am about half way through the series. It's fans comments and passion for the series that keeps me reading! And of course for my own pleasure.

message 140: by Shauna (new)

Shauna Hensley | 14 comments Welcome Mark! I think it will be great to have a guy's point of view.

message 141: by Mark (new)

Mark E Cooper | 12 comments Oh have I read them all! I have read all of Laurell's books many times. At first, I followed Anita Blake and loved the first 5 or 6 in paperback. Then as more came out in hardback, I would re-read the two preceding books LOL. Of course, I never guessed there would be 20! In the end, I had them all either in paperback or hardback, and that was when i discovered Audible.com, and bought them all again!

I have listened to them all a few times while I work. The narration is great, and they are all unabridged. I never buy abridged audio books.

When Laurell started the Merry Gentry series, I was concerned that her attention would fade from Anita. Luckily that didn't happen. Now i worry that she will finish Merry's series before I am satisfied :)

I know a lot of reviewers complain about the sex scenes, and that there are too many. I started to feel that way when Anita Blake made her second menage, but now I don't mind at all. Funny, but in the Merry series I have never minded, probably because the series was heavily into the sex from the start.

I know its not very guy-like to say, but its not the sex that attracts me to the books. I really do have an interest in Merry's future plans and how she will politic with her allies, defeat her enemies and bring the Goddess to the humans :)

With Anita, i am expecting after Hit List to see her using her power to help Jean Claude make his council in the US, and she will be like the terminator on steroids by the end whenever anyone looks sideways at her men!
