Unapologetic_Bookaholic HNY Amanda! I have been busy organizing my challenges. I broke down and created a spreadsheet, hehe. I think you'll like Lover Awakened. I have barely started BDB series. But so far it gets better with each Brother's story.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic OMFG! LOL! I have joined SO many groups, but thank goodness they are all pretty much the same. Reading challenges and such. I have 2 that are plainly "read X amount of books in the year 2010" and then I encourage my other groups to do challenges. And join in on those! Haha!

message 16: by ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (last edited Jan 04, 2010 02:25PM) (new)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) For those that know me, you know I rarely read anything that could be described definetly as PNR. I found a few books at the thift shop today for 50 cents each and picked up...

Catch A Mate by Gena Showalter
The Stone Prince by Gena Showalter
Bled Dry by Erin McCarthy
Up In Smoke by Katie MacAlister

They had a few other PNR type books I passed up that seemed to be more gothic vampirey than PNR with romance. Not sure Catch a Mate is PNR but most of Gena Showalter's books are I thought.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic Kate: I think Catch a Mate [I have a copy TBR too:] is more contemporary romance. It depends on the publisher, but yeah, Gena is usually PNR. Hope you like ur picks!

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I finished:
Mine to Possess (Psy-Changeling, #4) by Nalini Singh [image error]

I liked both. Going to review in a little while.

Starting:
Knight of Darkness (Lords of Avalon, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Though I may wait until I've read a bit further in my current reads:

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman Secrets of the Wolf (The Pack, #3) by Karen Whiddon Caleb (Shadow Wranglers, #1) by Sarah McCarty Night by Elie Wiesel

I figured at 50 cents each, even if they aren't to my liking I wasn't losing out on much. I don't think the library has anything by Gena Showalter. I might start with Catch a Mate to get used to her writing style, then try out the other one. Probably wait til I need to use one of them to fill a challenge this year. The other two I picked up because the authors names have become familiar with ya'll mentioning them.

message 20: by Valorie (new)

Valorie Wow!! I just finished Night's Cold Kiss (A Dark Brethren Novel, book 1) by Tracey O'Hara and LOVED it!! I could not put the book down!! What a great new author! Very interesting take on vampires and hot, hot, hot romance!! If you are looking for a new author to try Tracey O'Hara is it!! Very strong female heroine and intense and thrilling story!! I'm reading Lord of the Highlands (Berkley Sensation) by Veronica Wolff next.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic One Gena Showalter series I really would like to catch up on is the Alien Huntress series. She seems so be able to write very different style of PNR. Like Lords of the Underworld is has a totally different tone than her Atlantis series.

I think if you like Catch a Mate then see if you can find some more of her romance stuff. Her PNR is what I have liked so far. But yeah, for 50 cents [like at the bookstore I work at:] I try new romance authors once in a while.

I have actually been avoiding Covet because I am not into that type of story. From reading the synopsis it just doesn't sound really good.

Let me know what you think of it!

♦Jennifer♦ (thejenneral) | 83 comments Will do Tricia. :) So far it is definitely in the style of her other books. And there are a couple of characters from the BDB series.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) just started Shiver it it's good so far

Tricia I agree I love the BDB series but feel Covet isn't the book for me. It was a BOTM read in my group i got to page 10 and just didn't want to finish.

I can't believe you got through Push. That book was sickening and stomach turning I had to put it down. Her mother/father needed a bullet in the head for what they did to her.

Though I may wait until I'..."

Unapologetic_Bookaholic Jael: I don't know what it is but some taboo topics I can manage to detach from and read. I have to be in the right frame of mind.

I did find the content disturbing. Why the movie is doing so well? I dunno...This sort of abuse happens, so I guess that's why I kept reading. To see what happens in the end.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Yeah I'll be picking it back up. I just had to take a break. I haven't seen the movie yet but everyone says that the performances are great! Your right this abuse does happen I just couldn't understand why when she had the baby no one at the hospital had sense enough to help her. That book had my blood boiling.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I figured the acting would be top notch. I mean I can totally get why this book was made into a movie. I have never read anything like it.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) It's truly disturbing and i liked how the author wrote the first few chapters in the characters uneducated wording. It really gave you a feel for her struggle. I think I'll try reading it again this month.

Valorie I just finished Lord of the Highlands (Berkley Sensation) by Veronica Wolff and really liked it. It's a time travel romance. I'm now reading Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men (Jane Jameson, #2) by Molly Harper .

Arlene | 2 comments I'm rereading Born of Night (League Series, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon I actually didn't realize until I'm like in the 2nd chapter that I have read it before LOL. But, I'm loving it more now.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic Jael: it was a nice break from romance [series:]. I liked the format too. I could review based on content and format but I can't say I "liked" the story ya know? It wasn't like taking something otherwise taboo and romanticizing it. So it was cut to the quick. I am thinking how to put that in words, say something good about it, but not "pretty" it up.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I wanted to finish Night before starting Knight of Darkness. But I can only take so much bloody misery in one day!

message 36: by Unapologetic_Bookaholic (last edited Jan 06, 2010 07:06PM) (new)

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I read the first novella in:
Playing Easy to Get (Includes Immortals After Dark, #1; Vikings Underground, #3; and B.A.D. #5) by Kresley Cole

Another great, hot addition to the B.A.D series. What made me a Kenyon fan before Dark Hunters.

Also read a couple chapters in:
Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman

I gotta say I don't get where this is going, but I am willing to hang in there a bit longer =D.

message 37: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (aeriga) I just finished Dhampir (Noble Dead, Series 1, #1) by Barb Hendee , and didn't like it for some reason. I hope I'll like my next book which will be Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I just finished Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. It was turned into the movie "Christmas with the Kranks" starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis. I havn't seen the movie yet though.

It was pretty hard to get into, but I think that towards the ending it definitely got better. I think that this was more an introduction into how Jim becomes a fallen angel than anything else. I'm interested in seeing what happens with the other six people that he is supposed to save in the coming books.

Right now I'm reading Tithe by Holly black. So far it's kinda meh, hope it gets better.

Yeah, I think I'll probably go back to it later, I just wasn't enjoying to multiple POV because they didn't flow very well & I was having trouble connecting everything. Good to know it eventually gets better! :)

Finished Passion Unleashed (Demonica, #3) by Larissa Ione & am going to start Awaken Me Darkly (Alien Huntress, #1) by Gena Showalter -aliens! Should be interesting...
