I've been pondering this book for a while - I saw it on sale the other day and almost bought it, but I've seen such conflicting reviews.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 114 comments Started One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6) by Jeaniene Frost yesterday. I'm so loving it! I forgot how much I missed Cat and Bones.

message 3034: by Jaime (new)

Jaime Rush (jaime_rush) | 126 comments Marsha, I know, it's tricky when you read a lot of conflicting reviews. Honestly, the more buzz, the less I tend to like the book. It's more of a "I don't get it." And I WANT to get it. As a writer, I'm interesting in understanding what makes a book hit. Mostly I'm baffled, which just goes to show you, I guess LOL. If you've got an ereader, you can probably download a sample and check out the first few chaps. I enjoyed it!

The idea was really good. (not influence others) but it wasn't put together that well. Seemed to slow and not scary. If you like a story that sounds scary but isn't and has a lot about "feelings of love" it's an ok book.

message 3039: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Jaime wrote: "Really? I liked it, though it reminded me of the kinds of scary-ish books I used to read when I was a kid. What didn't work for you?."

I thought this book was boring from the get go. I read longer than I originally would have, but as I was reaching page 50 I decided that I just couldn't read on any more. I was tired of being told there were secrets that they would be revealed and what should have been a creepy story was just boring. This one just wasn't for me.

I was disappointed as I really liked her Wicked Lovely series. But I have come to the realization that not every book is for every person. I will try most books, but if they don't grab me I have no problem giving them up. There are just too many books that I want to read that I won't spend time with something that is so so or can't keep my interest.

I also won't discourage people from trying that same book themselves. What I don't like could be the very reason someone likes a book. So when I have friends that say they don't like something I will note it and go in with lower expectations. Sometimes I am surprised and I like or I think like they do.

You're right about that. I sometimes find myself asking, "What's the big deal?" And thanks for the suggestion about downloading a sample, I do have an ereader and I think I'll give that a shot just to see if the story grabs me. Thanks!
