A nice "Odd-refresher". In Odd We Trust is very well done. It's based on the characters of Odd Thomas but has a different (and simplified) story. I was expecting it to follow the book, Odd Thomas but it didn't. The whole ending at the mall is non-existent. Contains the first chapter of Odd Thomas in the back as well as some explanations by Dean Koontz.

"Happiness is a plate of good carbs."

I gave In Odd We Trust 4 stars

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 34 comments The cover paired with the title just cracks me up. I don't know why. Maybe it's because Odd cracks me up... haha.

I'm not a big graphic novel reader but I loved the graphics in this one - seemed more genuine than the bulging muscle and vein portrayal of the Frankenstein graphic novel. Koontz said that although the artists depiction on Odd wasn't exactly as he pictured Odd in his head - it was extremely close. Koontz worked closely with the artist to get the characters just right. They had to totally redo the graphics for Chief Porter :-)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 34 comments Odd Thomas is an interesting dude and should therefore look VERY interesting. After all, his narrations in the books were very odd and very comical.

Odd Thomas and Dean Koontz (as he ages) seem a lot alike to me :-) I think Dean is putting a lot of his quirky personality into the character of Odd.

Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments I just reserved a copy at my library. I'll give a graphic novel a try.

Let us know what you think. Remember the story is very simplified, but I think it's worth reading :-)

Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments I finished it earlier today and the following is my posted review:

This was my first graphic novel. Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors which is the reason I decided to give a graphic novel a try. The story is decent but I prefer novels over comics. I enjoyed comics when I was younger but graphic novels are just not as interesting to me as a good novel. I know some would argue that a graphic novel is not a comic, but I don't see it. To me, the only difference is that a graphic novel has a bigger price tag. Glad I borrowed this one from the library. 3 stars because I like the Odd Thomas character and Dean Koontz.

Lori (barfield) Hey Matt that's what I think to. I'm not a comic book person.

message 12: by Matt R. (new)

Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments Yes, I guess a graphic novel is best summed up as a long version comic book. If the graphic novel gets younger readers to check out Dean Koontz, I think it is cool. I agree Lori, a graphic novel (comic) is just not my cup of tea.

Christine I found In Odd We Trust at the library today. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Christine I am so disappointed in In Odd We Trust. It was awful. I haven't read a lot of graphic novels but I have liked the ones I've read. I found the dialogue stiff and unrealistic and if I had to hear another word about pancakes, I will scream. When I read the excerpt at the end of the book, I found it to be completely different from the graphic novel. I will stick to the novels from now on. I am so glad that I did not buy this book. I would want my money back!!!!!!

I borrowed it from the library too. I wouldn't buy it but I enjoyed it more than you did :-) I'm with you on the pancakes though :-) Did it bother you that the story didn't follow the novel?

*SPOILER ALERT*
Stormy does not die in the graphic novel - I think it's very strange to have the graphic novel go in such a different direction than the Odd Thomas series.
*End of SPOILER ALERT*

Christine I just wonder why Dean Koontz did the graphic novel if he wasn't going to stick to the novel. I get the part about attracting a different audience with a new format but why change the story. Its a mystery

From Dean's Useless News - Spring 2011 Edition:

"The third Odd Thomas graphic novel will be published later this year by Del Rey, with art by the wonderfully talented Queenie Chan, who has illustrated the previous two volumes in this series. It is arguably the best of the three. More in a future issue."

Jaice Cooperrider (plasborgma) | 1299 comments Dustin, I have no interest in reading graphic novels, but I am curious how their stories differ from those of the novels in the series. Would you mind posting a spoiler of all the major differences as you read the graphic novels? I'd really appreciate it. :-)

Whoops I don't remember seeing this post :-) I'm sure I can come up with a list by next year

I recently read House of Odd. I really like these and still think they are quite fun :-)

message 24: by Trooper (new)

Trooper Jay (trooper_jay) | 2 comments I was hyped to hear about the prequil graphic novels but I have to say I think the artwork was completely wrong for the ODD THOMAS storylines. The "MAnGa" style artwork is a groovy form but I was expecting something a bit more HARD EDGED and SLEEK! The stories were cool but the art took away from it for me. Being a fan from the beginning I will of course continue to read anything associated with the character but I wish they would change the art. ODD THOMAS should read like an "ARCHIE COMIC" #JustSayin
